Zanilia Zhao Fans Accuse Yang Mi for Plagiarizing “Princess Agents” Poster

Fans of Zanilia Zhao (赵丽颖) have accused Yang Mi (杨幂) for plagiarizing a Princess Agents <特工皇妃楚乔传> character poster, but it didn’t take long for Yang Mi’s side to pull out an Uno Reverse Card.

Recently, upcoming Chinese period drama Novoland: Pearl Eclipse <九州·斛珠夫人> starring Yang Mi and William Chan (陳偉霆) unveiled a new set of character posters, one which included Yang Mi’s character Fang Haishi dressed in a male attire and holding up a bow and arrow. The poster resembles a poster for 2017’s Princess Agents starring Zanilia Zhao, in which Zanilia’s character Chu Xiao similarly holds up a bow and arrow while looking fiercely ahead of her.

The similar posters immediately evoked the ire of Zanilia’s fans, accusing Yang Mi, who also produces Pearl Eclipse, for plagiarism.

Their accusations, however, were immediately quashed down by Yang Mi’s fans. They explained that in the Pearl Eclipse novel, Fang Haishi is a character who excels in shooting arrows, and several important scenes in the novel showcase this fact.

They also added that the novel 11 Chu Te Gong Huang Fei <11处特工皇妃>, the novel which Princess Agents was adapted from, actually had a record of plagiarism. It was Xiao Ruse (蕭如瑟), the author of Pearl Eclipse, who had sued Princess Agents author Xiao Xiang Dong Er (潇湘冬儿) for copying several ideas in her work. Xiao Ruse won the case, and Xiao Xiang Dong Er had to apologize and pay over 50,000 yuan. If fans have to argue about which came first, the clear winner would be Pearl Eclipse.

Pearl Eclipse is set in the Novoland world, a fictional universe that has spawned over 30 books.  The first television drama set in this world was 2015’s Hua Xu Yin: City of Desperate Love <九州·华胥引>.

Lol. This article is funny. Fans are funny creatures. Posters are funny. When they say “fiercely ahead,” all I see is a pretty flawlessly photoshop face with deadpan eyes staring.

For kicks, I say these posters plagiarized Lord of the Rings poster of Legolas xD Archer, check. Ancient time costume, check. Bow and arrow, check. Long hair, check. Pale skin, check. Elegant features wanting to pass off as masculine, check. Idolized meter to the max for tween/teen mentality, check! Lol.

Legolas xD Archer hairdo/costume looks plagiarized from old Shaw Brothers wuxia characters from the 1970s. Many Hollywood swordplay and martial arts were taught by teachers from HK.

@jjwong I was thinking the hunger game since the main protagonist is a female excels in bow and arrow xD but yea, it’s certainly the case of this sort of shot isn’t that unique anymore, but we all know ZLY’s fans are rabids >_>

And agree on the deadpan eyes lol

@littlefish Oh ha, yea, forgot about Katniss. Legolas is much more elegant-looking than Katniss though, lol.

Now I’m waiting an article that analyzes who hold the bow and arrow correctly xD

@sunnysun Heck yeah Lord of the Rings was a world wide phenomenon (proportionate back in the days). They were the millennium’s first continuous trilogy and trail-blazers in so many aspects/records. I digress xD

@jjwong Legolas will always win over any of these ladies lol! Being elves and all xD and the actor looks super fine xD

About the holding the bow correctly, I think there’s used to be a debate about katniss is doing a bad job but turn out she has an Olympic winner as a coach so she actually held it correctly lol

@littlefish The actor himself is super fine 😉 I was jealous at Legolas, and all the other elves, flawless skin. This was before paintbrush, photoshop, contour makr up. Lol.

Why do some fans have to get their knickers on knots over something as trivial as a poster??? If I am not mistaken ZLY’s fans do have a beef with YM since the beginning….

@niangniang because ZLY’s fans are craze craze lol. They literally pick fights with any actresses that have news! Few months ago when Lui Shi Shi was having her drama air, they attacked her. Even go so low as say she’s has postpartum depression. While having that isn’t a shameful thing in western society, in Asia, any sights of mental problem make you mental -.- (hate that stigma and hate her fans even more after that low blow)

During her early days as an actress where YM is already very popular, ZLY used to says that many people mistaken her for YM…..hahaha…She got attacked mercilessly by C netizens…..That’s why I said her Firefly DO have a beef with YM.

It’s quite entertaining to read about the things that so called fans can get worked out about or the minor details which caught their eyes.
For all we know, these may be some hired keyboard warriors whose job is to fan some fire to generate publicity. Good or bad it’s better than letting the celebrities fade into obscurity.

  4. So many movies have a girl holding a bow and arrow. I mean look at The Hunger Games poster too. Katniss is holding a bow and arrow and looking “fierce”.
