Zheng Shuang’s Strange Behavior Catches Criticism

As one of China’s most popular and highest-paid television actresses, Zheng Shuang (郑爽) is bound to receive as much as hate as she does love. But her strange behavior on the Internet is doing nothing but fueling the haters and worrying the fans.

Recently, one of Zheng Shuang’s alleged side accounts “Yeah Xuni Xiaohao” (Yeah虚拟小号), or “Fake Sockpuppet”, posted a string of controversial posts that included profanity, alerting fans and the media. In a post she made on February 19, which since has been deleted, Zheng Shuang asked fans to give her some money via Weibo’s virtual lucky red envelopes, and claimed that if she’s received 100 RMB from 700,000 fans, she could buy “a new house by tomorrow.”

Many fans found the post funny, but some media outlets called out on Zheng Shuang for her strange behavior. One article found Zheng Shuang’s actions to be of bad taste and slammed the actress for being “morally deplorable” in regards to asking her fans for money.

“She has no filter, which can be seen as liberating, but to ask fans for red envelopes, she’s crossed the bottom line of morality,” said the article.

Coincidentally, this controversy happened at around the same time Zheng Shuang’s Official Fanclub (郑爽官方后援会) was shutting down. On February 19, the fanclub announced on its official Weibo that they are ending its support for Zheng Shuang. The club cited poor communication and their inability to contact Zheng Shuang and her team for the reason behind the close-down.

“Even though we weren’t able to contact [Zheng Shuang and her team], we insisted to quietly hold on with hope, but after today, we can no longer do it. A fanclub that has been abandoned by their idol […] we are sorry to all of those who supported us.”

This message was soon deleted. It was then replaced by a new message, which defended Zheng Shuang. The fanclub clarified that Zheng Shuang actually cares about her fans, but she didn’t want her fanclub management to go through trouble for her.

These ambiguous messages have gotten a lot of netizens talking. A non-fan asked, “I’m neither a fan nor an anti, but am I the only one who thinks that [Zheng Shuang] should go see a psychologist?”

  1. This does seem like a hacked incident. It has “scam” written all over. (Unless she has asked fan for money before, then this her m.o.) One must be pretty bitter to believed and called her “deployable.” Then turn around to write an article to scold her xD Media and their funny reports.

  2. Pretty sure it was a hacked by some good IT background people or it was some sort of scams.

By the way, I’m not a fan because fans are brainless people, fishy that they give out money from their own will so why are other people mad for?
