Zheng Shuang to Pay Tax Evasion Fine of 299 Chinese Yuan

After her surrogacy scandal in January, Chinese actress Zheng Shuang (鄭爽) is found to have also committed tax fraud. After half a year of investigation, authorities fined the actress for 299 million Chinese yuan for tax fraud. The 30-year-old admitted her mistake, and will be paying all  fines within the deadline.

Zheng Shuang is considered one of the four most successful post-1995 Chinese actresses alongside Yang Mi (楊冪), Cecilia Liu Shishi (劉詩詩), and Zanilia Zhao Liying (趙麗穎). However, Zheng Shuang’s career was destroyed by her surrogacy scandal after her ex-boyfriend Zhang Heng (張恒) revealed she left behind two surrogate children in the United States.

Furthermore, it was also Zhang Heng who exposed Zheng Shuang for signing a yin-yang contract, which he is currently being investigated as an accomplice. Although Zheng Shuang reported income of only CNY 48 million for A Chinese Ghost Story <倩女幽魂>, she had actually pocketed CNY 160 million.

The Shanghai tax department determined that Zheng Shuang failed to declare personal income of CNY 191 million from 2019 to 2020 time frame. She had evaded taxes of CNY 45 million and other underpaid taxes of CNY 26.5 million. In accordance with the law, she was charged a late fee and fined a total amount of CNY 299 million.

Zheng Shuang’s Apology Statement

Apologizing on social media, Zheng Shuang said she will pay all the fines within the deadline. “I regret what I did and feel guilty at the moment,” she wrote. Explaining that she struggles with financial knowledge and legal awareness, Zheng Shuang will accept the penalties given by the taxation department.

Learning her lesson, Zheng Shuang will strictly abide by the law in the future to avoid disappointing her fans. “This lesson will definitely serve as a wake up call for me to grow up. I need to be a law-abiding citizen, and have higher expectations for myself. I will not back away from responsibility and face my mistakes bravely. I hope everyone will continue to push and watch over me!”

Zheng Shuang’s Acting Career Has Been Frozen

The National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) released the article “Violations of Law and Regulations Related to Artists and Organizations” on their official website. The article states that they have zero tolerance towards tax evasion cases, and that shady contracts violate laws and regulations which impact the social fairness within the industry.

As a result, Zheng Shuang’s dramas and televisions have been banned, including Swords of Legends <古劍奇譚> with William Chan (陳偉霆) and Yang Mi (楊冪), and LOVE O2O <微微一笑很傾城> with Yang Yang (楊洋).

After Fan Bingbing‘s (范冰冰) tax fraud scandal in 2018, Zheng Shuang is the second Chinese artist fined for tax evasion with an amount surpassing CNY 100 million.

  1. had no idea that she was at the same level as yang mi and the other ladies. i heard of the others and their work. i kinda just know that ZS was around b/c she was in that terrible pirated version of meteor garden.

  2. She is a compulsive liar…. honestly, this loser lies so often she actually believe in her lies… Even her last apology letter was a joke… I am glad her Weibo account is now suspended… She still repeatedly attempts to try to get back to the Entertainment industry to earn easy money.

  3. Thought she has already paid her fines?
Anyway, didn’t she still claim her innocence just days before the state released verdict?
Hope they will ban her for life. She cannot act, has behavioral problem and highly doubt she is remorseful. The entertainment industry is just a quick and easy way for her to earn big money.

    1. @BearBear She wrote a sob story to her fans on not having money to live…no money to get sanitary napkins, she fill her tummy with tap water and no money to order food delivery… But when she has to pay her fine, she paid them within period to avoid going into jail… Such a liar and manipulator.. if she is poor, then most of Mainland Chinese must be in extreme poverty.

      1. Didn’t she say she was struggling financially? Now she claims she will pay this big fine? I guess she will do anything to stay out of jail.

      2. @HeTieShou She is a compulsive liar and she has a history of milking her fans… She will say anything to get money from her fans… Manipulator.

      3. Literally laughed out on the “no money to get sanitary napkin”, on any other person I would feel for her but when it’s ZS…….like you have mentioned, her ability to pay in time or face jail time speak volumes of her wealth.

      4. @BearBear I did laugh when I read her sob story on her Weibo…it was laughable.. Remember a couple of years ago, she made a comment asking her huge fan base to give her a small amount(equal to $1) she will be able to buy a house.. she is such a money grabber..

      5. @bearbear,
Yes, I cracked up at the toilet paper and sanitary napkins part… I guess parting with her money is not that painful for her so she can stay out of slammer…

  4. I knew that she had money hidden somewhere when she was crying poor before. I think the creditors will come after her soon now that she has shown that she can come up with 299 million yuan.

  5. “Zheng Shuang will accept the penalties given by the taxation department” is depending on her economic hardship. You are only obligated to pay what you can. And that can be $1 only. She’s being sued or fined for $299M Yuan, the article never says how much she has to pay. I am not saying she’s actually poor or doesn’t deserve punishment, but these articles are so one-sided.

    1. @jesspepperwang You are so funny… “only obligated to pay what you can” You clearly have not done research on China’s laws on tax fraud.

Before any other companies sues her… her finances which is currently frozen due to tax fraud investigation… She will need to pay the Government tax fines first as the Government is not suing her, they are issuing her a fine plus back payments.

Zheng Shuang has personally state she will pay all her fines in full with deadline… The total amount she has to pay the tax office is CNY 299 million: “She had evaded taxes of CNY 45 million and other underpaid taxes of CNY 26.5 million. In accordance with the law, she was charged a late fee and fined a total amount of CNY 299 million.” This article has given you the facts…
