Kate Tsui Wanted to Turn Down “Tomorrow is Another Day”

When Kate Tsui (徐子珊) was offered to play a correctional services officer in Tomorrow is Another Day <再戰明天>, she originally wanted to turn it. Already known for portraying law enforcement roles, Kate did not want to get typecasted. However, after several meetings with producer Lam Chi Wah (林志華) and the creative staff, Kate finally decided to set aside her fears.

Kate portrays Yiu Oi Ka, a correctional services officer stationed at the all-female prison in the Lo Wu Correctional Institution. Though Oi Ka appears cheerful and happy on the outside, she is someone who hides all of her emotional pain. Oi Ka grew up without the presence of her parents, thus developing a close attachment to her family friend, “Uncle” Man Sheung Sing  (Lawrence Ng 吳啟華). Despite their 18-year gap, Oi Ka falls in love with him.

Man Sheung Sing is a senior correctional services officer stationed at the all-male Stanley Prison. He had a failed marriage, which led to his reluctance to start a new romance. He originally treated Oi Ka as a younger sister, but he slowly starts to realize that his feelings for Oi Ka were beyond that of friendship.

Lam Chi Wah: “Kate Has Potential for TV Queen”

Tomorrow is Another Day is producer Lam Chi Wah and Kate’s third collaboration together.  Lam said Kate has the potential to compete for 2014’s TV Queen through her performance as the complex Oi Ka.

“She appears to be very carefree on the outside, but in reality she has many wounds kept inside her. She chooses to forget about these wounds, but later that all backfires. This is a very hard role to portray, but Kate’s acting is very well-received by the public and she really gave a very heartwarming performance. When it’s time for her character to crumble emotionally, Kate gives out a certain aura. I am very satisfied [with her performance].”

Lawrence’s performance as the strict Man Sheung Sing should also be anticipated. Setting aside his sophisticated appearances in dramas, Lawrence spent half a year to train his body in shape. When Lawrence was studying in England, he had trained in the military and will be showcasing similar training moves in the drama.

Tomorrow is Another Day also stars Vincent Wong (王浩信), Josie Ho (何超儀), and Kenny Wong (黃德斌). The 20-episode series will premiere on October 6.

  1. O hell no….her acting sucks no expressions when it come to any emotions she have to protray!!!! So why is getting the tv queeen award.

Plus ki hate her fake lashes

  2. I do see her false lashes and her duck lips…. As in many many drama before.

    1. But I’m looking forward for Lawrence, Josie and Vincent 🙂

    2. ugh, i just saw Kate in this drama. What’s with the ugly wig? If she were professional enough, she’d cut her hair instead of donning that horrendous wig. And it’s quite creepy to know that she and Lawrence will eventually fall in love when he’s like an uncle to her (both in terms of seniority and physical looks). Can’t overlook her pouty duck lips. Lawrence looks terrible with that crew cut which makes him look older and uglier cos it emphasises his jug ears.

  3. It’s only 20 episodes long? 🙁

    I can’t wait for it!

  4. Yay! Love Kate! It’s gonna be a depressing drama for sure though…

  5. ‘Kate’s acting is very well-received by the public’

How can this be if this drama isnt even out yet

    1. This is an example of a brainwashing article. The series is not out and the producer already claiming Kate is well received by audience. Even if it’s mistranslation and he meant past series, didn’t he know the bad reviews about her acting in Bounty Lady and TUA?

  6. she needs to STOP wearing those exaggerated eyelashes for every drama.

    1. Her fake eyelashes seem to look better in the above phot …………. not as long and thick.

    2. Agree with you she should stop wearing those fake eyelashes in every drama. It sometimes doesn’t fit in the drama. Like that time when she was in a coma and she was wearing the eyelashes again.

    3. You do know she don’t get to choose. It’s the makeup artist that TVB hired.

      1. I don’t think so. All the other actresses do not wear the same type of extra long fake long eyelashes. All actresses wear fake eyelashes in drama series, but not that thick and long.

      2. If it is the problem with the makeup department of TVB, why does this kind of makeup not given to other actresses, such as Linda Chung, Charmaine Sheh, Myolie Wu, etc.? I agree that heavier and more glamorous makeup is needed for those glamorous characters, such as movie stars, fashion models, rich girls, etc., but definitely not for those police or disciplinary officers.

      3. @Sandcherry: Fair to say, Kate isnt the only TVB actress with long fake eyelashes and thick makeup.

      4. Kate isn’t the one with long fake eyelashes, but hers are the longest and thickest ones.

I have no objection for actresses to wear fake eyelashes. As a matter of fact, every actress wears fake eyelashes, but not that long and thick, especially if she acts a police officer’s role.

      5. My point is: the kind of makeup should vary in different characters. A simple or disciplinary role should wear lighter makeup while a glamorous role should wear heavier and more glamorous makeup.

If Kate Tsui acts a beggar’s role in future, she will probably wear the same kind of makeup.

      6. I disgree, sandcherry. I have seen more cakey faces in police roles so I think Kate isnt the worst case.

And in Tomorrow, she toned down her makeup. Why keep saying about her past roles?

      7. Sorry. I haven’t watched “Tomorrow is Another Day”. I just read the comments stated above. In fact, I hope Kate has toned down her makeup so people would notice her acting more!

      8. All the above comments (regarding the eyelashes and acting) are provided before the series is aired and by people who have not watched her in Tomorrow. In fact, she toned down the makeup in Tomorrow to suit the role. Someone said about TUA, her character in TUA requires the thick makeup.

    4. I agree. I can see her fake eyelashes, longtime pout in the pic. And her hair also looks very fake.

  7. Wow the series hasn’t even started airing yet, and they are saying she’s worthy of TV Queen? Shameless advertising much?

    1. Exactly. Will have to watch it first ……. It is too soon to say that Kate Tsui is worthy of TV Queen.

  8. she needs to STOP doing that pouty lip. It is not sexy at all.

    1. Tbh I think she’s just born with pouty lips :/ Like when she’s smiling with her teeth they look fine, but when she’s not they just look pouty.

  9. she really needs to not actually wear those stupid eyelashes it looks so unreal!!!!!! and has to ‘STOP’ wearing them. I don’t think she would get the TV queen this year i prefer “Charmaine Sheh!!!!!

  10. I think Kate tends to show more acting ability when she has less make up on. I hope she performs well in this drama.

  11. her eyelashes and pouty lips should have its own twitter page … from watching the previews…they are there for sure..

    1. I think she adds a fake hair this time to the eyelashes and pout. I hope she leave out those short skirts and revealing clothes and pointy heels especially while chasing criminals.

  12. Didn’t see all the dramas for this year but seems like TV Queen battle will mainly be Kate vs. Linda.

    1. Kate vs. Linda? Charmaine Sheh is the one who acted the best in “Line Walker”. No one can beat her acting this year.

    2. It is just too hard for the current fadans to beat Charmaine Sheh in “Line Walker”. Majority of HK audience think highly of Charmaine’s acting in “Line Walker”. Very happy for Charmaine …………… she has improved a lot in her acting in the last 2 or 3 years.

  13. she really needs to not actually wear those stupid eyelashes it looks very ugly and not pretty! but i hope that she will act well in this drama!!!

  14. Kate <3 I can't wait for tom.
You ppl act like you guys never saw exaggerated eyelashes outside of the TV . & plus if im not wrong pouty lip are sorta in trend rn .

  15. Not looking forward to this drama.. TV queen? I think not.

  16. kate’s acting is just aweful. I don’t see a queen. She is not even near there. Good try producer!

  17. not again. when each series airs, the lead actor is worthy of tv king and the lead actress is worthy of tv queen. when all that is bitter is sweet aired, “linda chung is worthy or tv queen”. when line walker aired, “raymond lam is worthy of tv king. charmaine sheh is worthy of tv queen. now tomorrow is another day airs, “kate tsui is worthy of tv queen” . SAME OLD CLICHE REMARK

    1. Hahaha LOL..I know… so overrated w/the casts of LW. I personally do not like uncle Raymond or the snake woman. They have always look the same to me and both seem to aged quite a bit too in this series. both are so boring to watch actually…My favorite character in there is the guy who died at the end and I think both him and Sharon Chan made a cute looking couple and acting has improved too but they seem to be overlooked since high pedestals of Raymond and Snake woman are there. The ending was so damn lame too w/them both in the ER car. OMG, so lame haha… I also like Michael Miu’s character and the other bad gang head ex UC who died bravely, all of them are both than RL & Snake woman IMO hahaha LOL…

      1. I KNOW RIGHT! Sammy Sum is superb! I would give him all my votes for Most Improved Male Actor or whatever he is nominated for. Raymond Lam and all those lousy TVB favourite actors and actresses shouldbe given proper and extensive acting class before they comw back on scene.

  18. I absolutely agree with the majority here – seriously cannot stand her fake lashes, quack quack lips and her accent. STOP putting on this stupid accent and fake lashes. Kate, you actually look better with a more natural look and less pretentious.

  19. I know i sound extreme here but find a guy to get marry get off the show biz it not right for you!!

    1. i mean she’s been saying she wants to get married n start a family so I root for her lol

    2. Agreed. She should either stick to characters like a diva or some sultry villain. Anything that is evil. She is not fit for a kind character. I feel like puking when I see her act cute or act kind

  20. So far great two episodes although law wise very weak. Hk no justice. Anywy kate toned down her make up only in so far as less xolour. Still too much cement on her face like tavia.

  21. 1. Her acting is rigid and not flexible. I don’t see her character in her dramas, I see Kate Tsui.. which means she is not portraying the characters well enough that all the characters seem similar
    2. I agree with everyone who commented about her makeup. Her makeup should vary according to her character, not just to make her look pretty… and her hair! It’s so obvious it’s a freaking wig. An ugly one. I don’t get why she can’t just cut her hair. A good actress will even go bald if it is required
    3. I don’t even understand why TVB is giving her main roles. She does not deserve them

    1. Yup why Kate didn’t just cut her hair instead of the obvious wig? Do you know newbie like Anjaylia Chan who acted young Carmen in NDA cut her hair short despite risk of losing commercial jobs opportunities to suit her character personality?

  22. Don’t like her acting. Think she’s really annoying for some reason.

  23. Kate is very cute and natural in this drama…Way to go Kate!
