Hawick Lau and Yang Mi to Have a Daughter?

On January 19, Hawick Lau (劉愷威) announced that his wife Yang Mi (楊冪) is pregnant on his Weibo blog. Though the couple never officially announced the gender of their baby, the media peculated that the couple’s first-born will be a daughter.

According to various reports, the producer of Hawick’s upcoming mainland Chinese drama Lady and the Liar <千金女賊>Chen Yu Shan (陳玉珊), accidentally slipped in a recent interview that Hawick may be expecting a daughter. She described Yang Mi and the baby as Hawick’s “wife and daughter”. She also revealed that Hawick was very willing to abstain from eating meat for three years for his family, earning the respect of the staff and crew. According to Chinese tradition, vegetarianism is believed to ensure long and happy lives.

Hawick himself also may have hinted the gender of his first-born, as he admitted to wanting a daughter at an interview on the set of Lady and the Liar last week. “I’m sure that most fathers out there would prefer daughters,” Hawick said.

Mainland Chinese media reported that Hawick and Yang Mi have been inseparable since their marriage in early January 2014. As both artists are currently filming for their respective projects in Shanghai, the couple would always try to find time to visit each other on set despite their busy schedules. The staff said Hawick would always greet Yang Mi in the same manner – first a hug, second a peck on her head, and third a kiss on her lips.

    1. Is that comment based on Yang Mi before or after plastic surgery? ;P

      1. even before surgery Yangmi wasn’t doing bad in the looks department

      2. I heard she god her nose shaved down and her face more oval because it was more squared before. She could have done a few other minor things but still looks like her old self.

  1. My favorite couple. I’m so happy for them and grandfather Lau Dan.

    1. Not my favorite couple but they are nice to look at and thumbs up for grandpa Lau Dan.

  2. I remember Kate Middleton did the same thing and accidently hinted at having a daughter on her first as well. But then she ended up having a boy, so let’s see. Congrats to them and grandpa Lau dan. I bet he is really happy.

      1. Maybe that was it ,so Hawick and Yang Mi can be doing the same thing?

    1. when the lady gave Kate a stuff animal, Kate said that she will ‘give it to her d…’ The lady assumed Kate was going to say ‘daughter’ but Kate could have meant to say ‘give to her dog’ but some ppl might think that is disrespectful. They did have a dog at that time. Or maybe she did say it to trick ppl

  3. “I’m sure that most fathers out there would prefer daughters,” Hawick said. ==== True in my case. My husband wants a daughter, I want a son. We end up have a son, so I got my wish.

    1. Many say that but honestly they all want a son first. You should some families they have all girls and only one boy. They just could not stop until they got their boy.

      1. “Many say that but honestly they all want a son first.”

Not true, my aunt/uncle had sons first and “chased” after a “much desired” girl, which they were blessed with. 🙂

  4. We have 2 girls and we are perfectly happy with them. They are more closer to their Daddy than me. My husband said he’s 110% satisfy with what God gives him, he wouldn’t wants to change a bit. Only old fashion ppl still think they want to have boy first to carry the name.

    1. Lucky for you that you have such an understanding husband. Does he wears the pants in the house or you do.

      1. What if I tell u that he’s a breadwinner in the house, not only he brings home bread, he does cooking most of the time, cleaning and taking kids to their daily activities, in the past 12+ yrs together I never have to shovel snow or even take my own car for a wash, on the other hand I only work part time, I only cook on my days off and my only jobs is do laundry and taking good care of my kids well being and it’s my responsibility to discipline them. So I don’t know who wears the pants in my house.

      2. My husband was the oldest in his family and he also did not want a son and it was expected for him to have a son to carry on name but he didn’t care. He only wanted 1 child and also wanted a daughter. He spoiled me when I pregnant with our daughter. When she was 6 months I became pregnant with a son and he was upset through the whole pregnancy. It wasn’t until our son was born that my husband adore him but he still prefers girls more. He spoils all the nieces and rarely the nephews.

      3. Joyce,
Your husband is a helpful and attentive man. Your marriage sounds balanced, in which you and your spouse contribute in different ways.

      4. Thuy,

You’re lucky to have a boy the second pregnancy. You have a pair of dragon and phoenix(son and daughter) but your spouse is Mr. weird While Joyce there with second pregnancy a girl a pair a phoenix(two girls) and her spouse is Mr. perfect. No more is needed to say about Joyce because she have said it all.LOL.

      5. Joyce, your husband cooks and clean too? So does my husband, ever since I married him, I have not move a finger doing housework. Are your husband the oldest? My husband is the oldest, and he do all this stuff for his siblings, now married, he do it for his wife and children.
My husband is very picky, everything in the house have to be his ways, even wash dishes have to be his ways, so he prefer to do it.
Nice to see now many men now are cooking, cleaning. In the old times, it only the women that do these stuff.

And as for son carried on the name, that only important if you in a family that only have one son, then you need carried on the family name. If your husband family have many brothers, then there be plenty chances.
I don’t know what countries people here live in, but where I am, there no laws said the children must have their father surname. If I have another son in the future, he will carried my surname.

      6. You’re lucky not many guy want to be “Bun Mui” or “Bun Nam?” LOL

      7. Leila,

Yes, my husband is the oldest of 2 son, and believe it or not, he did not touch a finger when we used to live with his parents, when we moved out after our second daughter was born and he start doing everything even there were times I was home full time taking care of my daughters. My mother in law did hint us before that she wish to have a grandson but both my husband and I are happy with 2 and they so close together we wouldn’t want to have more, well, she still have her other son to fulfill her wish.

      8. Good decision to move out otherwise it wouldn’t have work out in the long run. Let someone else do the job. It’s good that you have a husband that listen. You taught him well.Good work girl.

    2. “Only old fashion ppl still think they want to have boy first to carry the name.”

Agreed, but women carry on the name too (for babies born out of wedlock). Less than two (2) months old Bear Winslet carries on the last name of his mother, Kate Winslet, even though she’s married. Oh, another “old-fashioned” senseless double standard that may be “crushed” with time now that women are more and more independent and successful.

      1. There are many old fashion peoples that have tradition values. the new fashion is just to much to grasp.

  5. I didn’t care if my child was a son or daughter. I just wanted a healthy baby.

My wife and I both felt it was going to be a girl, however… and we actually had the girl’s name chosen months before the boy’s. It came down to the point where we decided we had to have a boy’s name just in case it was a boy, and in the end it was a good thing we were prepared – lol!

  6. Bernice’s ex(s) = hawick and moses.. all married and have kids.. while she is still single and hoping for rich hubby still.

    1. The right guy will come along soon. She just doesn’t need more of the Mr. perfect type of guy. The too good to be true. LOL.
