Marco Ngai Will Not Divorce Wife Despite Infidelity Reports

Marco Ngai‘s (魏駿傑) marriage with Zhang Lihua (張利華) is on the brink of divorce. The 47-year-old actor admitted that he has been having arguments with his young wife, and that their relationship has reached the “seven-year itch.”

The couple got married seven years ago in Lihua’s hometown in Chongqing, when the bride was only a 20-year-old college student. Their marriage occurred after Marco’s breakup with Joyce Tang (滕麗名), whom he had dated for nearly a decade.

Marco and Lihua were happy in their early years of marriage. In 2010, Lihua gave birth to their daughter, Jessica. The family of three often went out together, undeterred by the watchful eyes of the paparazzi.

Seven-Year Itch?

Recently, reports claim that Lihua has been seeing professional cyclist Tang Wang Yip (鄧宏業). The duo was spotted eating dinner together, and their interactions were reported to be intimate: Tang Wang Yip had his arm around Lihua’s waist while carrying her bag.

A few days ago, Marco and Lihua were seen heatedly arguing on the streets for over ten minutes, shouting loudly and pointing fingers at each other. Marco had stopped wearing his wedding ring and threatened divorce.

Marco Admits Marital Problems

In an interview, Marco admitted that he is having communication problems with his wife. He said, “It’s common for couples to argue. Who doesn’t? The problem is that we should both consider our family. Our daughter is still very young and she is our priority. We’re not at the point of divorce. We care about our daughter. Maybe it really is because of the seven-year itch; we just celebrated over seven years of marriage. The problem here is about how to hold our relationship together. There is no third party.”

In regards to Lihua’s rumors with Tang Wang Yip, Marco said, “Looking back at the pictures, I don’t see anything strange. If something did happen, it would have been photographed! The Hong Kong paparazzi is very resourceful — they’d be dead if they booked a hotel room! I choose to trust my wife. I’ll tell her that although her husband is not working in Hong Kong at the moment, he is still someone who is well-known. She should be careful when she is out.”

What problems are the couple be facing? “We love our daughter too much,” said Marco. “The focus is all on her, and because of that my romantic side is lacking. I’ll reflect. If we keep blaming each other for our faults, we’ll just be walking farther and farther away from each other. I still cook for her on Valentine’s Day. Maybe I’m not giving enough.”

Marco stressed again that he will not divorce his wife and is working hard on maintaining his marriage.

  1. See this is why age matters in relationships. The older person, usually the man, will be controlling and insecure about his partner being much younger than him.

Even now, reading his comments, you can tell there are thinly veiled threats and guilt-tripping remarks.

Unless the man is much more successful than the woman, they will usually be controlling & possessive esp as they get older.

  2. She was a 3rd party when he was still with Joyce… Marco deserve it this low life guy went on to date a student and now with time all hell break loose nothing works. He pretty much deserve the karma it’s gonna end up with a divorce.

    1. @vodka Totally agree. Marco Ngai surely deserves it. He dumped Joyce Tang after having a relationship with her for 15+ years and then went for a 19-year-old Mainland Chinese student during his brief stay in China. He should have known better that he would get this kind of result. Joyce lost her prime time and career in TVB because of her relationship with Marco. I feel so happy for Joyce now. Eventually she got someone who really loves and cares for her.

Male popular artistes like to marry someone young and pretty in Mainland China. Eventually they get dumped if they cannot keep up with their youth and especially career (to make more money). Typical examples are: Lawrence Ng Kai Wah, and now Marco Ngai Chuen Kit. There should be many more. I am afraid that same would happen to those famous female artistes sooner or later, especially if they have a big age gap (older) with their partners. It could be a lot worse for women as women get older quicker …….. physically (face and body).

    1. @tess

You really wonder if karma exists? There are many that have done worse but nothing bad has happened to them at all. But they are also living a happy life. Even though I think Marco made the wrong decision to end the relationship with Joyce, but at the same time, I do not think it is right to rub it in his face either.

      1. @hetieshou it’s non of my business what other people did or done. I only focus in commenting what Marco did in his previous relationship with Joyce. And I believe that’s the bad karma he’s gotten from ditching her. Do you have any problem with that?

      2. @tess – if a relationship doesn’t work out there’s nothing wrong with neither party. We get to choose who we want to be with but whether is a good choice or not we dont know. just like choosing a friend – some people you are bonded to but later on friendship can end.

Any person get to choose what they want in life. Joyce maybe having a better marriage now which is good. Marco’s marriage might not be as good but he did nothing wrong and divorce can happened in any person. How can u get karma just for ending a relationship? Ditching is a very childish term

      3. @azndoraemon ditching doesn’t sound childish to me, or you would prefer dumping?

Relationships and friendships are the same? Seriously?

      4. @tess do u get along with every single person u met whether in your family or school/friends?

Have u changed your mind about who you used to think was your best friend who is now someone else instead? Are u saying we dont get to pick who we want to be with or what we want for our future? Is hard for childish to understand

      5. @azndoraemon I’m exceptionally clear in differentiating between friendships and bf/gf relationships. I don’t mix these two up. It sounded so wrong. Or maybe you are a confused person that’s why.

      6. @tess you wrote:Relationships and friendships are the same? Seriously?
This doesn’t seem like you understood.

wasting my breath talking to childish person. Who believe karma will come when breaking up with your partner.

  3. Following the karma analogy – then what about karma for the 3rd party – ie his current wife? Afterall didn’t Marco ditch Joyce for her?

The dude’s desperately saving face and clutching at straws, with thinly veiled threats at his wife too.
And hullo … no Marcos, you’re not that well known either.

“The Hong Kong paparazzi is very resourceful — they’d be dead if they booked a hotel room! I choose to trust my wife. I’ll tell her that although her husband is not working in Hong Kong at the moment, he is still someone who is well-known. She should be careful when she is out.”

As for Joyce, she appeared really needy to get hitched at one time with her jump from one bf to another – it always seemed like she was the person giving 150% in the relationships.

NOT for karma or to show anyone … Joyce seems happy with her husband. That’s good enough – that contentment and inner happiness … no need to prove anything to anybody.

    1. @nomad822 – Gigi Leung was the third party to ekin and Maggie’s relationship. Gigi is now married to someone else and has her own baby. Ekin also married to yoyo at the end instead of maggie. is this karma? Thats how love can be. There’s no right or wrong. Marco chose his wife over Joyce that just mean his love for her was stronger than for Joyce. Thats how his heart felt – was it wrong i don’t think so.

In a relationship sometime the male put in more effort but it could be the other way around. Where u get 150% from? Joyce may have loved Marco to death but that doesn’t mean the more u put in will guarantee a marriage/happiness.

I’m glad Joyce had found her other half. Things does happen and sometimes good sometimes bad – is just meant to be.

      1. @azndoraemon well, although Gigi is happily married now, but the relationship between her and Ekin didn’t work. So, that’s their karma. Karma has bad and good ones…maybe Gigi did something good and she’s having a good karma in her current relationship/marriage.

  4. I personally do believe in karma. When you do bad deeds, bad deeds will happen to you. Marco Ngai really deserves it after everything did to Joyce. I hope she takes all his money and dump him for whoevers out there.

  5. Breaking up is fine. You don’t always pick the right person the first time around and people change as well as their needs.

I think what repulses most people about Marco is not that he dumped Joyce for a younger woman, but how he went about doing it. His attitude and words to the media regarding Joyce were harsh, cocky and ungraceful. He could have handled it a lot better. Maybe Marco needs a new PR person. He really does not have good EQ.

Look at Adam Cheng who went through the same thing. People hated him for it but at least he did not bash Lydia to the media. He handles it really well whenever the media asks him about his previous marriage. And most importantly, he apologized. Yes he was jerk to cheat on his wife during her difficult pregnancy and it does not change what he did, but he handles it so much better than Marco.

Marco, on the other hand, started pulling statistics about how marriage lasted longer if you got married quicker and tried to justify his actions. It not only killed his popularity but also his career.

    1. @elizabeth to make it clear Joyce or Marc were never my idols.

Some artists are better at talking and know how to prepare on screen when talking to the media. I agree that Marco wasnt that smart and abit of naive but that also doesn’t mean he did anything wrong. I also agree the statistic he mentioned didn’t make much sense to other people but he can choose what he wants to believe. When u google things online there are so many different information given and people tends to take a piece here and there to draw a conclusion based on what they find or their mind tells them. My personal preference with dating is some what similar to his statistic – I would never stayed in a relationship longer than two to three years if I don’t see sign of marriage.

Adam Cheng is a very smart person on screen and that’s how he were able to hold his status up until now. His best move was to be careful bc Lydia was very powerful in tvb and also he cheated with evidence so could he denied? Is so easy to apologize on screen just to look good but it doesn’t mean they mean it. I truly don’t think there’s anything wrong about smart talker and naive talker – some have brain and some just don’t. That’s how they pick winner of miss Hk

      1. @azndoraemon I don’t disagree with you about that Marco can chose who he wants to marry or break up with. I think he would be more wrong to marry Joyce and then divorce 20 years later,

But as an entertainer, his public life is magnified in the spotlight and he relies his on popularity with the audience to maintain a good career. When most of the audience are women, not to mention see lais who can be stubborn, it was not a smart move to be naive when speaking with the media. It is sad that people get less freedom of speech as you gain more popularity but that is how the entertainment world works.

Entertainers sell an image to the audience, not their real person. People don’t have to be genuine, but as long as they appear to be, the media and audience laps it up and moves on. The more you fight it, the more you get hounded.

      2. @elizabeth not all artists know how to respond well. I think he did say if he and Joyce were to get married – the marriage will end in a divorce. from the breakup article, he was just expressing how the press and audience put the blame on him. Audience thinks they were very compatible bc they were couples on screen from armed reaction. I don’t recall him saying anything extremely hurtful to Joyce. I think tvb and people in Hk are ridiculous over small stuff, they seem to have too much time to gossip and make little thing to big. I’ve seen news on Hollywood about breaking up with one person to another or this person is dating this person – but no big deal in America even Taiwan and china are neutral about this. Example of Nikki chow and kevin Cheng. Another one is Shirley yeung. I think is bull crap – tvb sucks anyway.

Some people just lack of skill when doing a speech. the popular artists are more lucky to have their management to speak up for them when handling conflict topic. the very popular artist are even able to be rude or speak freely to the media bc they have more power and know other powerful artists for backup. Some can suck it up to keep their career and some just can’t. Nick Cheung is an example – in his interview on the sweet home show – he quit the entrainment bc he was pissed off and he left in bad term. He also mentioned that hes the type that would do whatever to make himself happy even if he loses his job. Look at how famous he is and the people around him.
