“My Lover from the Planet Meow” is Officially the Least-Watched TVB Anniversary Drama in History

My Lover from the Planet Meow <來自喵喵星的妳> has just broken a record, but it’s not one worth celebrating.

According to the latest ratings report released by Nielsen, episodes 8 through 12 of the TVB anniversary drama My Lover from the Planet Meow averaged 21 points—putting it at less than 1.4 million people watching per episode. Episode 13, which aired on Saturday, dropped even lower to 16 points, pulling in only 1.04 million viewers. It is the lowest rating TVB has ever seen for a TVB anniversary drama.

My Lover from the Planet Meow is the sister production to last year’s Ghost of Relativity <鬼同你OT>, 2015’s highest-rated drama. Planet Meow sees the return of Kristal Tin (田蕊妮), Nancy Wu (胡定欣), and Moses Chan (陳豪) in the lead. The show centers on Kristal’s character Miu Miu, an alien cat who takes up a human form to help her old masters.

The show is plagued with criticism, ranging from the sloppy, unfunny script to Kristal’s odd portrayal of Miu Miu. Netizens have been particularly harsh on Kristal, who was criticized for being too old to play her role.

“She’s 40 and trying to act cute,” a netizen spat. One netizen suggested, “I rather see Eliza Sam (岑麗香) doing the role.”

Planet Meow’s competitor, Two Steps from Heaven <幕後玩家>, is faring a little better in comparison. While the show was criticized for being unrealistic, it did manage to break 23 points on its first week of broadcast. Episode 7 pulled in a higher rating of 25.6, reaching 1.66 million viewers.

My Lover from the Planet Meow will air its series finale on November 18. TVB’s last anniversary drama, Dead Wrong <致命復活>, will be replacing it.

  1. poor acting from Moses Chan (don’t understand why need to act like a nerd). Same goes with the 3 guys

  2. Not surprised by this news. It’s a rubbish drama . At least two steps from heaven is somehow worth watching and the acting is pretty good esp Louis . Hope that dead wrong will not be a disappointment

  3. It’s a very bad choice to bombard us with both Edwin and Kristal simultaneously. And both series are crap.

At least TSH have Louis and Bosco to hold it. But why the writer have to put Bosco as such a jerk not worthy of being the lead of the show? WHAT the writers thinking? Are they copying Jan Dara?

  4. this stupid meow meow drama deserves a low rating…moses’ ugly wig, kristal’s acting cute and the 3 stooges in the office are irritating!

bosco in the first episode had an affair with a new colleague and then acted innocent as a married man.

  5. TVB really shouldn’t have wasted its resources filming this Planet Meow.

Two Steps from Heaven is still ok for me…but not a very good drama either.

Although Dead Wrong is not aired yet, but having read some news about this upcoming drama, I’ve confidence that DW will have better ratings among the 3 anniversary dramas this year.

  6. at least Two Steps from Heaven is more normal. It’s just moving slow with the plot. A Drama about people’s lives.

This meow thing is so ridiculous with super stupid lines.

  7. No one is surprised by the lowest ratings. TVB deserves this snub by viewers. Ghost Of Relativity(GOR) was only a fluke success and TVB was so naive to believe a sequel will result in a similar success. Just when you thought Moses, Nancy and Krystal’s acting could not have got any worse, the trio prove us wrong in My Lover From The Planet Meow. I sincerely hope that this drama will hold the record of lowest ratings forever.

    1. @creditor GOR was a freak success…in fact, i didn’t watch beyond episode 2. why is TVB so stupid to film a sequel and wasted everyone’s time?

  8. Not a surprise at all. Tvb rushed into this thinking they can be successful again but don’t think it through. Was skeptical of it from the beginning

  9. I was trying to recall the same character that Moses acted as a nerd…now I got it “Ghost Of Relativity”.

  10. This show is silly. Trying to ride off the name of a popular K drama but with a more stupid concept… and essentially ripping the entire plot of “Ghost of Relativity” and using alien cats as a theme instead. Who thought this would be a good idea?

  11. Moses Chan’s big brother days in TVB are over. Pl demote his standing position at big events. He has zero chemistry with all his female co-stars and his acting is same old same old.

  12. GOR was crap to start with

Meow Meow is worst, watched 1st episode and haven’t comeback..

2 Steps from Heaven is only marginally better, Louis Cheung is the only one interesting to watch….

This years anniversary series are the worst for a long long time…

Roger Kwok’s series in November should be more interesting…

Fist within Walls should have been given a anniversary slot instead of Meow Meow…

    1. @mulder99 yes agreed with you… These 2 dramas so stupid not worth chosen for the Anniversary the one should be A fist within 4 walls

      1. @elcmei actually it’s a blessing in disguise that Fist isn’t chosen to be anniversary drama. This way it can also compete in Starhub TVB awards.

  13. When I heard that TVB was going to film their version of my love from another star, I was excited. But this, is nothing like it. There’s no point in the plot. Studios need to stop making sequels that no one asks for. Just because a drama/movie was popular, it does need mean we need another one. All the dramas this year have been crap. I’m excited for roger’s drama, only because I know he can act. So it won’t be painful to watch

  14. Why am I not shocked by this? What a recipe for disaster: trying to feed off a uber-popular Kdrama with an aging cast and dumb script.

Maybe they should take this directly to the DVD market as double feature with “Cat Poop Mommy”. LOL!!!

  15. Well…she’s 39 not quite 40 yet…

But anyway, the Title of the series kind of gives an idea of what the show is about so no wonder it turns out to be exactly as dumb.

  16. TVB needs to give viewers a week or two break between dramas. Let the public digest “House of Spirits”, “Fist of 4 Walls”, etc. Don’t force feed us like we can’t go a day or two without a drama. And why is Moses so popular?
