TVB’s “The Witness” Premieres October 19

Picking up the time slot of Go! Go! Go! Operation C9 <C9特工> and airing after The Song of Glory <錦繡南歌> will be The Witness <木棘証人>, a crime thriller comedy starring Him Law (羅仲謙), Kelly Cheung (張曦雯), Willie Wai (韋家雄), Pinky Cheung (張文慈), Tsui Wing (徐榮), Lau Kong (劉江), and Sammi Cheung (張秀文). The Witness is Him Law’s first TVB drama since 2014’s Fashion War <潮流教主>, and is also Kelly Cheung’s first drama as female lead.

The Witness starts off with a gun shot, leaving one victim dead. Sergeant Ko Lik Kei (Him Law) is tasked to protect the case’s most important witness Lee Ho Fan (Willie Wai). Kei and Fan struggle to get along, but in times of need, they find that they are always there for each other.

Meanwhile, Ho Fan’s company gets involved in another criminal case. The company’s executive Yip Cheung Lok (Lau Kong) and his son Yip Ming Kwan (Tsui Wing) become key proponents. Kei, Fan, and Fan’s younger sister Lee Chung Ying (Kelly Cheung), who is a lawyer, investigate the company together, becoming a dynamic trio. Kei’s older sister Ko Wing Yam (Pinky Cheung) also gets pulled in the ropes.

The Witness premieres October 19, 2020.

  1. I see 韋家雄 got promoted to more main second line, one of few that actually can act.

  2. I don’t understand TVB’s scheduling. Why didn’t they air Chinatown or LW3? If they wait for Chinatown next year, they risk airing 3 Ruco series in a year and making people annoyed with him. Also, it is the exact same cast as Super Messenger and the redundancy will be even more obvious. By the time LW3 airs in Nov, people would have seen it all and ratings would be lower. Plus, it is hard to have discussions and buzz about it.

Kelly and Him don’t have the appeal of either of those series.

    1. @potatochip agree with you so confusing why they did this. It almost seems like they are sabotaging LW3 more than helping it to win best drama and actor categories

      1. @potatochip They obviously don’t make their decisions thinking about what we think lol. Their focus is to please their Chinese investors so they will air it when it conveniences them. I guess now they won’t air anything that mainland hasn’t approved yet, hence Chinatown is postponed? Though not airing LW3 now in HK is really ridiculous, especially since it’s the later time slot too. Tvb loves to sabotage their own artistes and either over expose them or put them on the back burner sigh. Seriously this years dramas have been so weak, partly cause they aired so many Chinese series. Only like three that have aired are worth watching.

      2. @luye They need approval of they want the show aired in China for sure, but it seems like now they are even more cautious about their content.

      3. @luye shows with intention to be air in China needs approval from their censorship board. If TVB wants show to be air in both China and HK at the same time, approval must be obtained

  3. Yup I’ll past….boring cast not a fan of tavia husband and kelly I think pinky is a okay artist wonder why she keeps getting these set back roles

  4. I watched the first two episodes, it’s not great but not as terrible as c9 operation. It’s cute.

Willie is great in it as always, I think he’s very underrated. Him Law has really aged you can really tell… and the way he wears his jacket in the show annoys me so much idk if it’s on purpose but it annoys the heck out of me lol. His acting, still the same nothing special. Kelly is Kelly, pretty but acting is bland.

    Honestly only watching for willie.

      1. @luye this drama is an actual comedy. So many little funny moments and punch lines. Willie is golden. C9 is literal time filler.

      2. @luye @bubbles23 yay so glad I’m not the only one! Is it a best drama? No but it is funny and the storyline is at least realistic lol. Watch it for willie he’s great.

C9 operation was purely to prompt ko Ling and she fell flat.

      1. @luye right???? I literally can’t tell if it’s on purpose or what it is lol. Drives me nuts but it’s kind of funny.

Just finished the latest episode, very much enjoying this series.

  5. Just the early going but even as a current TVB hater, this one’s underrated for 2020. It’s actually quite funny with some witty lines and a few laugh out loud/chuckling moments. Willie Wai will need to elevate this series and he’s more than capable.
