Jolin Tsai Works with Beyoncé and Katy Perry’s Designer for New Album

Taiwan’s pop queen Jolin Tsai (蔡依林) is currently preparing for the launch of her thirteenth studio album PLAY <呸>, which will be released on November 17. It has been two years since her last studio album MUSE, which swept music charts upon its debut.

Jolin introduced that there are several meanings to the word “play”. It can mean movie script, acting, or performance, which echoes the experiences and wisdom that she has gained in the last two years. By presenting her new music and image in a witty and self-deprecating manner, Jolin hopes that fans will find her new album playful and joyful to listen to, bringing optimism to the future.

Working with American designing team The Blonds, the duo who collaborated with American pop stars such as Beyoncé and Katy Perry, Jolin flew to New York and spent five days shooting the album cover and photo book. The Blonds made very quirky pieces for Jolin to wear, adding more fun strangeness to her album.

In addition to working with renowned international talents, Jolin’s agency and record label also invested 60 million NTD for the post-production of her upcoming music video. All of the tracks in Jolin’s new album will have a music video, making PLAY a complete visual album.
