Angelababy Criticized for Attending BLACKPINK’s Concert

For their Born Pink world tour, South Korean girl group BLACKPINK has been making waves.  Many Hong Kong and Chinese stars flocked to watch the concert in Macau on May 20 and 21.  Angelababy was one of the artistes spotted enjoying the show, but her attendance is now causing controversy.

Known to be a loyal fan, Angelababy had attended two of BLACKPINK’s concerts this year in Hong Kong and Macau, and even excitedly shared photos she had taken with BLACKPINK on social media. However due to the restrictions on Korean entertainment in China, many netizens criticized Angelababy for her actions. Her new drama Twilight <暮色心約> with Allen Ren Jialun (任嘉倫) was suddenly suspended, requiring review by the censorship committee. Tabloids suspect this may be due to Angelababy’s attendance at the concert.

Other dramas are also rumored to be implicated. Peter Ho <何潤東> and Viva Ho’s <何泓姗> Xifei’s Royal Love in the Palace <歲歲青蓮>, as well as Xiao Zhan (肖戰) and Li Qin’s (李沁) Where Dreams Begin <夢中的那片海> were also affected. The production teams denied that delays were due to the implications of supporting Korean entertainment, but rather due to technical issues and the inability to find the right timeslot to broadcast.

<- individual celebs careers. There is a level of enjoying watching the fights when NO one is innocent in this whole fiasco. Fans, celebs, media accounts & capitals have all used UNPATRIOTIC as a tactic to attack others. But when it is turned against them. Hehehe.

  3. Thought the restrictions are about SK artists participating dramas and recent speculations on variety programmes. Since when did it evolve to personal activities like attending concert? Still having doubts it is true (though one will never for sure). If it’s, what will be next? Close down SK cuisine restaurants, ban SK imports?
Or did any of the BP members show support for Taiwan independence or find to have talked about about the country?

  4. How ridiculous can CCP be. If the world boycott made in China goods … they will have an uproar!!! Oh wait, they did! What’s good for the goose is not good for the gander! ?!

  5. I really hope her visiting BlackPink tour is the reason her drama is suspended. I would rather believe it is due to Ren Jialun’s affair “rumours” instead.

  6. Uhm…. Where Dream Begins was released. Twilight is currently getting their license to release. This news is so ridiculous. So many Chinese celebrities have attended Black Pink concert recently.

    1. Besides there have been so many other boy/girl groups and/or artists companies that does business both China and SK. You don’t hear them being banned or being criticizes. Feel like Jayne Stars is making up stories just to get people to read. Angelababy was in Macau to promote the Londoner Macau with David Beckham. Why can’t she enjoy BP concert while she’s there? Besides Lisa, was even a judge or mentor on Youth with You a couple of days times. Why make out such a negative story?

      1. @angeltien Angelababy’s controversy was covered in Hong Kong’s Oriental Daily and and North American-based The World Journal, a Chinese language media site which covers entertainment and broader news in the East Asian region. Although other Chinese celebrities may have attended the concert, she was the one that made headlines because of the sudden delay of her drama with Allen Ren.

  7. Trash society… why are they not ban their peoples to travel to Korea too… hahaha
