Gillian Chung Receives 66 Stitches for Head Injury
In Xiamen, China filming for a new movie, Gillian Chung (鍾欣潼) sustained a serious head injury yesterday. Waking up at 2 a.m. to prepare for filming at 6 a.m., Gillian felt dizzy inside her hotel bathroom. Falling and hitting her head on the marble floor injuring the right side of her forehead and eyebrow bone, Gillian suffered an open wound over two inches long.
Due to the severity of the injury, Gillian was immediately rushed to The First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University for surgery and received several dozen stitches. A MRI scan and other examinations for her head were completed at the hospital. A second surgery was performed on the evening of August 7, in which the plastic surgeon helped Gillian re-suture the wound. There were a total of several hundred stitches, with 66 stitches done on the outer layer of skin. Afterward, Gillian’s eyes and forehead swelled up, and she was prescribed with noninflammatory medication and painkillers.
Alarmed by Gillian’s injury, her manager Mani Fok (霍汶希) and good friend Joey Yung (容祖兒) immediately boarded a flight from Beijing to Xiamen to rush to her side. Mani stated that Gillian’s condition has stabilized and thanked everyone for their concern. Since Monday was the last day of Gillian’s filming schedule, the star had wanted to still show up at the set, but Mani insisted that the work will need to wait until her full recovery.
Throughout this harrowing experience, Gillian’s EEG labelmates have been very supportive Joey accompanied Gillian at the hospital during her stay, while Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍) reached out to doctors to see if she could help. Charlene said, “After our video chat, I saw that Gillian’s situation has stabilized and feel relieved. Gillian told us not to worry about her. She is currently resting–I hope she recovers soon.”
Realizing that her fans are concerned after hearing about her injury, Gillian checked into her social media and posted a photo of herself looking tired with her forehead wrapped in gauze.
