Jacky Cheung’s Concert Creates Awkward Situation for Chow Yun Fat and Ex-Wife, Candice Yu

Jacky Cheung Hok Yau’s 20-session concert performance at the Hong Kong Coliseum opened last night. The singing legend’s concert resulted in an awkward situation for Chow Yun Fat and ex-wife, Candice Yu On On! Both Chow Yun Fat and Candice attended Jacky’s concert with their significant others. Meanwhile, Jacky’s concert featured a video clip with Shu Qi, in which the pair portrayed dating, marriage, and separation. Both on and off the stage, life was a drama!

Chow Yun Fat was an honored guest at Jacky’s “Half Century Concert Tour Series” yesterday. Coincidentally, Chow Yun Fat’s ex-wife, Candice Yu was also present. The audience was shaken when they realized both parties were at the concert. Fortunately, Chow Yun Fat and Candice’s were sitting a dozen seats apart, avoiding an awkward confrontation.

Jacky’s concert started at 8:25 PM. The Hong Kong Coliseum’s 9,000 seats were filled entirely. Jacky wore a white Prince Charming outfit and performed a tap dance in his opening act. Afterwards, Jacky changed into a red suit and sang the fast-beat song, Playboy <花花公子>. In the short music clip aired, Shu Qi and Jacky kissed passionately. When the lovers fought, Shu Qi slapped Jacky on the face and the concert atmosphere entered a high point. Afterwards, Jacky sang numerous classic love songs.

Jacky’s Wife and Daughters Absent

At noon yesterday, Jacky had a praying ceremony prior to his debut evening concert performance. Since Jacky held a concert tour in China earlier, he did not appear anxious. Since it was a school night, Jacky’s two daughters and wife, Law Mei Mei, did not attend Jacky’s opening concert. The family already watched Jacky perform in Shanghai. Jacky said, “The greatest benefit was that [my daughters] know more about my work. They know more of my songs and will sometimes ask me to sing some songs to them. My younger daughter likes to listen to Playboy <花花公子>.To encourage environmental awareness and charitable actions, Jacky and producer, Florence Chan, encouraged fans to donate to charity rather than spend money on buying flowers.

Jayne: Jacky Cheung has such a beautiful, passionate voice. While he was undeniably talented, even in his early career, I confess I didn’t like him that much when I was growing up. Perhaps it was because his songs were constantly played on the radio and it was oversaturation. My favorite male singer from the 1990s was Dave Wang Kit. Thinking back, Dave’s songs had such a sad streak and I can’t listen to his music for extended periods anymore.

What are your favorite Jacky Cheung songs? I like Goodbye Kiss <> and This Winter Is Not Too Cold <這個冬天不太冷> . Jacky’slove ballads are a little sappy, but if you don’t mind the lyrics, his voice is truly beautiful to listen to!

  1. How many years have they separated? Because this is such an idiotic piece of news.

    1. Normally I don’t agree much but this time you are right. It has been ages ago since they have separated, But nevertheless, because HK’s media have so little content of any value to report on, they even have to pick on something like this. Obviously, they just compound the awkwardness a bit more but that’s about it.

      1. i bet their wasn’t any awkwardness at all. The ex-wife was like who that bozo down the row. Oh it’s my ex husband. I think i greet him after the concert.

      2. I am actually sort of shocked that the HK media still remembers such an old piece of news like that… I can totally imagine them bringing up Raymond and Mavis’ issue 20+ years down the line if they can do it with CYF’s short marriage to Candice Yu. Also, even if they did harbor bad feelings for each other back then, is it still reasonable to hate each other and hold a grudge after all of these years?? I find it unnecessary…Even Ray and Kathy let go of their grudge after their divorce and can now talk to each other like normal friends. Why can’t CYF and Candice do the same??

    2. If I remember correctly, they got married in the early 80s, like in 1983 I think. However, their marriage was really short and lasted only like 6 months. They then divorced… I can’t believe that it has been sooo many years but they still bring it up?? I wonder if they will bring up the fact that he used to date Idy Chan??? That issue is even older…

  2. I think Jacky’s songs are alright in terms of melody and lyrics. Its really his voice that makes them stand out. One fav being: 你的名字,我的姓氏. Without his voice its hard to imagine this song being good at all since the lyrics are very ummm… like Jayne said, sappy.

  3. I went to his concert in vegas this year. Being 50 yrs old, he still can sing and dance! he doesn’t have to change the tempo or key of the songs like how some other singers do when they aged cuz jacky can still sing the high key.

  4. oh how i wish i could go back to hong kong again, too bad i went last year :/ I still need to experience what it’s like going to a concert in the hong kong coliseum 😀 I do like this mandarin song by Jacky called 一千個傷心的理由. Now that I think about it, his songs are quite sappy…i guess it’s his style.

  5. Jacky can definitely sing, however the man should put his dancing shoes away, it is what it is.

    1. Jacky’s dancing is ok. Now u want to know who can’t dance at all is eason chan. eason’s dancing is like a monkey running around on stage.

      1. You should see Jacky run then (see 2008 Olympic Torch thingy) 🙂

      2. I notice that those who can’t dance like to run on stage. Running isn’t that bad actually, it just makes life difficult for the camera man. What really gets on my nerves is when they keep JUMPING, like a Chinese zombie.

      3. You must have not seen a Leon concert. Guy is like a fence post.

  6. The HK media, every little thing seems to be a big news. I didnt even know Chow Yun Fat was divorced before!

Anyway, been to Jacky’s concert before, I prefer him performing love ballads compared to him dancing.

My fav song from him is 只想一生跟你走!

    1. Chow Yun Fat and Candice got married and then divorced in 1983!! I can’t believe that they still mention it. I can imagine them still mentioning the fact that he used to date Idy Chan but his mom did not approve. I heard that he even attempted suicide because of it… Really sad and I guess they have “yuan” but no “fen”.

      1. Was he who said you don’t always marry the one you loved most? I believe he was passionately in love with Candice but her mother didn’t like him?

      2. I am not sure about whether Candice’s mom liked him or not since they did get married for a short time, so I just assumed that the parents on both sides both liked each other and them. All I heard was that he dated Idy even before Candice and really loved Idy. However, his mom did not like Idy which made him really sad that he attempted suicide. I heard that Idy helped nurse him back to health but could not be with him in the end due to his mother’s disapproval.

It is sad but true that a lot of times the one that you marry is not the one that you love most.

      3. Yes I believe I mixed up her and Idy then. She was the one he never married.

      4. @Funn,
Yea, I think you did mean Idy… No wonder it didn’t sound familiar to me when you mentioned that his mom did not like Candice…

  7. I really like most of his sappy love songs like 李香蘭 and 妳的名字我的姓氏 .

Might I add that his 愛是永恆 will always remind me of his amazing performance in 72 Tenants. Perhaps I never really had a chance to see him but but I still can’t believe he has the potential to act the way he did in that movie!

    1. That was my favorite scene in 72 Tenants. Wong Cho Lam did such a wonderful job!

  8. Kinda thinking about it now, you know what I think about this whole situation… how Chow Yun Fat and Candice Yu are now sighted seeing the same Jacky Cheung concert together on this eventful evening? I say its karma again at work. Don’t ask me how. Just know that karma works in mysterious ways… 🙂

  9. Jacky Cheung rules! Went to Vegas concert and it was a blast. I bet Jayne didn’t like Jacky when he first came out cause he wasn’t a looker compared to the other guys. How shallow Jayne. ^_^

    1. Lol – she said she liked Dave Wong Kit. I hope it wasn’t for the looks, otherwise I would question her taste.

I actually prefer Leon Lai when I was growing up. After Leon, I had a short crush on Andy Lau, then Aaron Kwok and ended the crush with Jacky Cheung (still loving him).

But I’m officially married to Eason Chan … had an affair with Leslie Cheung.

      1. Haha, I loved Leon Lai too! He was my fav of the heavenly kings. As for Jacky, I’ve always liked his songs too and my favs are “Yuet boon won,” “Jee seung yut sang gun nay jow,” and ” Jee yow nay but jee doe.”
Dave Wong had a unique style and I liked some of his songs too but I can’t help but think that his singing sounds like he’s constipated or something. 🙂

  10. 一千個傷心的理由 is one of my favorites. Dave wong kit is also a singer I like. Too bad he can’t sing like back then.

  11. The audience was shaken when they realized both parties were at the concert.”

    Another great line, lol

They probably didn’t even know that the two of them were at the same event until this “important news” came out.

    1. Do you mean Idy Chan?? Well, I last heard that she did come back for a few series and may come back to act in another ancient series with TVB. Not sure though.. She is now doing business and managing her own business and her family’s business.

  12. My absolute favorite Jacky song is 妳的名字我的姓氏! Loved the music video with the live orchestra, not sure about the shiny silver suit. That song came out about the time I got married, so it was so appropriate for me at the time. I still get goosebumps when I watch the video from time to time.

  13. LOL at the description. “The audience was shaken” I doubt they cared.
