Joe Ma Intends to Send Teenaged Son to France

Joe Ma (馬德鐘) who is currently filming Tiger Cubs 2 <飛虎II> will be rushing back to China to film another drama in October. The no-nonsense father who is very particular about his 15-year-old son Ma Zaixiang’s (馬在驤) education, will be sending him to France to further his studies.

Together with other celebrities such as Ricky Fan (范振鋒), Eddie Lee (李雨陽), Jason Chan (陳智燊), Sherman Chung (鍾舒漫), Carat Cheung (張名雅) and Jennifer Shum (岑杏賢), Joe attended the 2013 Overseas Students Yan Chai  Charity Dinner with his wife last night. Joe lamented that it has been harder filming for Tiger Cubs 2 than its predecessor because he has more scenes in the sequel. The proud father also revealed that his son, Zaixiang, who is skilled in taekwondo and playing the violin, will be going to France to further his studies. Wanting his son to experience more of the world while he can, Joe hopes Zaixiang will learn to be an independent problem solver while studying in a foreign country. Joe also joked that he will not mind if Zaixiang brings home a French girlfriend.

Regarding his wife, Karen Cheung’s (張筱蘭)  recent criticisms of the sex scenes in Triumph in the Skies 2’s <衝上雲霄II>, Joe expressed support. “Society has progressed. It’s more realistic (for dramas to be more open) but must also consider the children if it’s shown at a prime time slot. I feel my story at that time was okay,” Joe referred to his flirtatious character in the first installment.

Eddie Not with Milky; Ricky Opens new Restaurant

Eddie Lee, who was also present at the dinner, was asked about his relationship with Milky from the girl band, Super Gear. The pair was previously photographed embracing each other in a back alley. Eddie claimed they were just ordinary friends and he wants to focus on his career right now.

Ricky Fan he has invested in a Japanese restaurant together with several friends. Counting Wilfred Lau  (劉浩龍) as one of the investors, Ricky further added that he is currently looking for a feng shui master to help them find a suitable name for the restaurant.

  1. I rarely hear parents sending their kids to France for studying. Interesting location for a non college kid in my opinion.

  2. Celebs send their kids all over, France, US, UK, Aussi, Swiss etc

  3. Lucky kid. Classical music perhaps? Or taekwondo? Or both, known as The Violinist, he will play the violin whilst delivering a fatal blow with his feet?

  4. Unless his son knows French, I’m not sure how he’ll be able to get around.

  5. His son is lucky, he can pursue whatever he wants for his career.

  6. Probably would have helped him more to send him to an English speaking country for school. Not that many countries use French for everyday business.
Unless he’s going somewhere to develop his violin skills, in which case main language would be secondary.

    1. I think Joe’s wife and son have previously lived in France for an extended period.

    2. Yup, it was mentioned in the original article that his son has studied French in France when he was younger.
