Kate Tsui (徐子珊) will win TV Queen and My Favorite Female Character awards, according Sing Tao, who has obtained a leaked list of TVB Anniversary Awards winners. Wayne Lai will win the TV King award for the third time due to his stellar acting in The Confidant <大太監>.
The Anniversary Awards ceremony will be held on Monday, December 17. Hong Kong residents will be able to vote for the Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Drama winners this year. Despite the one vote per person system, TVB will not release the percentage of votes to avoid embarrassment for the nominees. The lack of transparency quickly led to speculations that it is still possible for the company to fix the votes and award preferred artists.
Tavia Yeung to Go Home Empty-Handed?
Kate Tsui and Tavia Yeung (楊怡) have been hot contenders for this year’s TV Queen title. According to inside sources, Kate was originally designated to win the TV Queen title as per TVB management, with Tavia winning the My Favorite Female Character award. However, TVB management suddenly changed their minds and decided to make Kate a double-award-winning TV Queen for her performance in Highs and Lows <雷霆掃毒> instead.
Starring in 6 dramas last year, performing a dangerous acrobatic stunt at the 45th TVB Anniversary Gala, and appearing in a slew of television and print interviews regarding the TV Queen race, Kate was boosted into the #1 Sister spot by TVB.
If the rumor turns out to be true, Tavia will go home empty-handed on Anniversary Awards night. Although Tavia’s dramas, The Hippocratic Crush <On Call 36小時> is the third highest rated drama year-to-date and Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles <名媛望族> has become a hot topic since its broadcast, it was speculated that after Tavia’s “car-shaking” incident with boyfriend, Him Law (羅仲謙), her popularity has been negatively affected and worsened her relations with the Hong Kong media.

On the night of the Anniversary Awards ceremony, a list of Top 5 Finalists in the awards categories will be announced. The Top 5 list is rumored to be fixed; the Best Actress category will include Kate Tsui, Tavia Yeung, Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣), Myolie Wu (胡杏兒), and Liza Wang (汪明荃). Unless the percentage of audience votes result in a wide margin from TVB management’s decision, it is understood that Kate will bring home the Best Actress award.

Raymond Lam will reportedly win the My Favorite Male Character award. It was reported that a female TVB executive had strongly advocated Raymond to win the TV King award, suggesting that Raymond and Wayne’s awards be interchanged.
However, the ratings for Highs and Lows <雷霆掃毒> did not make it into the top 3 dramas for the year. The central interest for the drama also fell on Kate Tsui’s Drug Queen character. TVB was concerned there may be negative backlash if Raymond were to win the Best Actor award, similar to the public criticism after he won the Asia-Pacific’s Most Popular Male Singer Award at the Jade Solid Gold Music Awards.

Eliza Sam (岑麗香) will reportedly win the Most Improved Actress award and Oscar Leung (梁烈唯) will win the Most Improved Actor. TVB intends to boost Eliza and Oscar into leading stars.
Pork Chop Awards
Considered as consolidation prizes, the Most Outstanding Actor and Actress awards will likely go to Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) and Myolie Wu (胡杏兒). Some TVB executives have suggested giving the awards to Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) and Bosco Wong (黃宗澤) due to their highly rated drama, Witness Insecurity <護花危情>. Real-life couple, Moses Chan (陳豪) and Aimee Chan (陳茵媺) were also contenders for the awards.
The TVB.com Popularity Award will reportedly be given to Kevin Cheng.

TVB does seem to favor Kate highly. I remember seeing Kate crack a joke in last year’s Anniversary Gala and the camera panned to the faces of TVB managers, who all laughed heartily in response. Kate’s recent HK press coverage has been very positive as well, in which the only rumor this year was with her eye doctor boyfriend.
Tavia was absent at the Anniversary lighting ceremony and the Anniversary Gala. Although her leg was injured, Tavia appeared at a promotional event a day or two after the Anniversary Gala.
Could Tavia’s absence from the Anniversary Gala signify that Kate will indeed win 2 awards? If TVB intends to give Tavia the TV Queen award, it seems to be an odd promotional tactic to not have its upcoming TV Queen appear in the Anniversary Gala and give face to the event. They could very well have organized Tavia to sit in a chair in a comedic skit if she could not walk.
Yeah, it’s weird that Tavia was not there due to a leg injury. She could have easily sat down for most of it and participated in the easier stuff.

Agreed. I finally watched HAL and think Kate is a lock for MFA, at least among the contenders. Not saying she is a great actress by any means, but with the combo of a standout character, heavy promotion and lacklustre competitors — including Tavia, the real question will be whether she gets BA as well. I think I might hide under a rock if she wins BA, if only to hide from the sure pitchforks and stones hurled by TY fans if Kate takes home BA…although I wouldn’t really blame them; it would be a devastating blow to Tavs.
Tvb didn’t promote HAL heavily, they only promoted Kate’s rape scene, which turned out to be only 1 second long.
But I was so happy they cut her rape scene. Now fans of other contenders can’t say “Kate only won because she got raped!”

If TVB gives Wayne the Best Actor award instead of Raymond Lam, it is more for practicality since Wayne will continue to film for TVB, while Raymond will be focusing on the film industry next year and will only film one TVB drama.
But it probably doesn’t make that much of a difference for Wayne whether he has two or three awards.

Although there’s a high chance that Kate will win TV Queen, I doubt that she will get both since she’s currently not at the same status as Charmaine and Myolie (and Wayne and Kevin) when they received both awards. I do think she is ensured Favorite Character if she doesn’t get Best Actress though.
One of my theories on all these leaks of Tavia not winning is to motivate her fan base to get out and vote for her. Also, there are many people (like my mom) who would vote for Tavia over Kate since she has put in more years at TVB and think she deserves it.
Sorry to say this, I do like Myolie, but I don’t think even Myolie’s acting skills is as good as Charmaine and Wayne in my eyes.

Aimee Chan’s Cantonese is understandable, though not the best, while the others’ are not “acceptable”.
I don’t see how Eliza could have shown the most improvement when she has only 2 dramas under her belt. And her role in GJ2 was only 2 episodes! Whereas Mandy has been acting for years and we can see her improvement since her first major role in Suspects in Love to her recent one in L’Escargot. If TVB executives cannot even get this basic principle right, then the whole awards thing is just a joke!
Best Supporting is a better win, it will prompt one to lead role immediately. Mandy doesn’t need most improved anyway.

Last time such an award was given was two years ago in 2010 to Moses after losing out to Wayne and 2009 to Tavia after losing out to Sheren.
Personally I think the winners of Best Actor and Best Actress awards in 2009 and 2010 were the most deserved winners ….. Wayne Lai and Sheren Tang (“Rosy Business” in 2009 and “No Regrets” in 2010).

Wow, Kate winning the Best Actress award has got to be the biggest joke ever. Personally, I don’t dislike her but her acting still needs A LOT of polishing. I don’t disagree with those who don’t think Tavia deserves it either but she is much futher along that Kate. Plus if Myolie deserved it last year then I think this year should be Tavia’s. If fans are not happy with Tavia because of her recent negative press then the award should go to Michelle (Mei Suet) or Liza Wang. At this point, I rather see the award go to Linda or Myolie again than Kate.
I actually think other wise, I think Kate’s role as Pat is way more outstanding and better than Linda and Myolie this year.

Agree with you Linnh. This was Kate’s breakthrough performance and clearly showed improvement in her acting. Kate has a high chance of winning Best Actress but Tavia, Michelle and Charmaine are going to make it hard for her to get it, though.

I think Kate should get the best actress award. She’s played a lot of different roles and all her characters a genuinely different and she has different crying skill as well. Katie has played tomboy, police, s*, young and dumb, ancient, annoying, kind and quiet etcetera since moon resonance tavia has played nice and her crying skill is the same loud howl. Tavia acting is better but lacks versatility in the past years. Kate acting still has room for improvement but more versatile characters

I really don’t believe this report. As much as I think Wayne should win, I don’t see TVB giving Wayne three best actor awards in just four years. At this rate, Wayne will end up with 10+ by the time he retires. It’s not like there are no contenders. I also doubt Eliza will win most improved. Mandy is the obvious choice since she had so many roles this year and most improved recognizes an entire year’s work. I find the Sudden Weekly prediction more believable than Sing Tao’s.

Their roles was quite popular, after the series was done, then people kept praising them for their roles. But yeah Bosco only stared in one series this year, plus he hasen’t been the main focus for the media either, beside from the Myolie split up, but it died down pretty fast. After that then not much has been really new about Bosco.
While Linda she has been pretty active this years.

haha myolie can’t act, tvb had a good show ‘ah lek’ meaning smart hosted by natalis chan, that was great and loved by lots of ppl, young children and elderly, the whole family loved it, then they replaced it with the trio, bad job and what a joke, those 3 guys are nobody’s fav, think they got the job just bec one of them is the boss of tvb, shows that tvb management has no proper talent scouts, just do as they like

The fact that they are not going to publish the voting score and the whole system is not independent, who cares. TVB can do whatever they like including making up the TV King and Queen. The reason I’m seeing why TVB introduce the so-called public voting is just to bring in better rating on the Awards nite.
But then there is an some kind of auditor firm to validate the result like most of it awards show.
TO me, the best actor or actress in year who has the best performance,surpassing anybody’s roles, although they can have some bad role in different films. Eg, Sandra Bullock, she get Oscar Award and Golden Raspberry Awards at the same year. LoLz

It was not Damian’s acting. He acted well as Chung Cheuk Man. It was the boring storyline which made his character boring.
I still think that King and Queen will go to Tavia and Raymond. His fan base is way too big to NOT win and it’s also his last chance, TVB favors him way too much to not give it to him. TVB has been pushing for Tavia a lot this year, I think the Kate competition is just to create more hype for the awards.

All I’m getting from this report is basically the TVB executives just wants to give awards to who they favour and not who has actually performed really well. IMO, Kate did better than Tavia so she deserves it. Whethere it’s both Best Actress and My Favourite Female Character, I’m not so sure. Partly because I thought Linda Chung’s ‘Hailey Kiu’ deserved to be nominated as well.
As for Wayne Lai, I love him. But as far as The Confidant goes, I haven’t seen anything ‘stellar’ from him yet. In fact, I’m not really enjoying The Confidant, it is a bit draggy.

So TVB will kick Raymond out again of the BA winners, he has to wait for so long to get this award and if he gets the BA, it’s fine for most of the audiences, hope TVB will let him win. I have my hope for Kate but one award please, not more, she’s not up to the level yet. But TVB award is a joke most of the time, remember back then Kevin won three award and his acting was just pleasant to watch, nothing really wow, wow.
WOW. I hope this list is true! Everything is well-fitted in each respecting category. The only thing I disagree here is the Best Actor award in which I believe Raymond Lam or Kenneth Ma should get! But overall, if it turns out this way, then there’s really no point of a voting system since they rig it anyway. Overall, great list if it turns out true….
It seems like people have forgotten what real acting is. . Wayne Lai and Damian Lau’s performances were phenomenal! And Kate Tsui has so much more to learn. I really enjoyed Michelle Yim and Tavia’s acting this year.
TY is a good crier but she’s kind of medicore in SSSS, no outstanding performance so far, even Idy’s role is more interesting than hers.

After marriage, I think Tavia’s character was totally changed into a new person …… a nice, tame, obedient, kind and not ambitious woman. Why did she change so much in such a short period of time. Last time, when I read the article about Tavia did not attend the Anniversary Gala show, I thought that TVB might not give her Best Actress Award. Also, TVB nominated Tavia two times for My Favorite Female Character Award, I think that she might not receive Best Actress Award because TVB might give her My Favorite Actress Award. If Tavia won’t receive Best Actress Award this year, I hope Michelle or Liza gets the award over Kate.
In my opinion, Damien is the one who deserves the Best Actor Award the most. But, TVB won’t promote veteran so I am rooting for Kenneth or Raymond Lam. Wayne is an excellent actor and he already received the Best Actor Award two times. Let the youngsters have a chance.

Hey if Wayne deserves it i dont see why not. The award is called “Best Actor”, not “Best-I-Want-To-Promote-This-Siu-Sang” award.
There are some other best actors in this year’s drama series, other than those siu sangs, such as Damian Lau, Kent Cheng, etc. Damian deserves to win Best Actor award in SSSS.
Agree that Damian Lau deserves the Best Actor Award in SSSS. He did very well as Chung Cheuk Man.
Personally I think his acting was better than Wayne Lai’s in “The Confidant”.

Eliza doesn’t deserve Most Improved Award. JJ Jia, Aimee, or Christine deserves the award over Eliza.
Aimee Chan got the Most Improved – Female award two years ago. I think JJ Jia should get it this year. She did very well in “Ghetto Justice 2”, a lot better than Christine Kuo in the same drama series.
I AGREE!!! I really liked her in Ghetto Justice 2. Aimee already got the award, and her acting is still slightly mediocre. Eliza just sucks, what can we compare DID to? she was plain annoying with her happy attitude that looked so fake..and Christine’s character made me wanna slap her in the face. She was ok in Tiger cubs though, other than being slightly annoying. JJ Jia for most improved, Mandy for best supporting. 🙂
Don’t forget about Mandy! I think she deserves the most improved award out of all of them tbh.

To be honest, I dont think this is the right time for KAte to win Best aCtress…Just because of one drama, it makes no sense. Tavia has been in the industry longer than Kate and we can see how well Tavia has been performing all the years.Much of the improvements are witnessed. Moreover, she has been securing her image well all these years. Just because of the “Car shaking” issue, it does not make any sense just to be punished like that. I would definitely go for Tavia as i Think TAvia should have got it long time ago.
And lastly, from the news, I concluded that the TVB management is highly biased in voting. IF KAte got it, There will be huge disappointment in many viewers towards TVB. TVB,Please think before you decide the winner….
Yes it does make sense if an actress wins Best Actress for 1 drama since that is the only drama the actress is being nominated for. If she is really that good, then why not? It’s best actress in ONE drama, not throughout the year/s. Also, the length of being in the industry shouldn’t be the factor to get the award. Base on you logic, other veterans would be receiving this award, instead. However, this doesn’t mean I want Kate to win, but I’m just stating that your reasons to why Tavia should win are not logical.
I disagree with ur reasons stating that nomination only base on one drama. If that is the case, Im sure TVB would not be able to survive till now. Most of the artists would have left by now. the lenght of being in the industry oso indicated that how mature of the acting of a person, and acting in few dramas in a year,well at least indicated how good and improve a person is. If only base on one drama, just because of a special role given makes u think that she /he has improved, you r just too naive..
But what if that person is naturally talented in acting and manages to wow on her very first role? I know its rare but it has happened before like rain lau in her first movie. She won the HKFA for best newcomer and best supporting actress. Age doesnt necessarily mean good acting skill, if so then the award should go to liza wang whos the oldest in the list right? But it doesn’t work that way, it should be based on best performance in a role.

I knew Kate would do well in HAL. Winning Best Actress for that would be quite deserving, in my opinion.
For my favourite character award, however, I hope it would go to Kristal for her role in King Maker. She was so cool in there.
