Kris Wu Signs International Record Deal with Universal Music Group

On Monday, Universal Music Group (UMG) announced that it has signed Chinese superstar Kris Wu (吳亦凡) in an exclusive international record deal as their first move of building bridges to the Chinese market. The 27-year-old’s future music will be released internationally through UMG’s subsidiaries, including Interscope Geffen A&M in the United States, Island Records in the United Kingdom, Universal Music China, and other countries around the world including Korea and Japan.

Kris said in a statement, “I am honored to be part of this collaboration with Universal Music Group. I have been elaborately producing my new album. As a singer and music producer, I hope more and more people get to hear my work. Through this collaboration with Universal Music Group, I hope to be able to show everyone that Chinese producers can also make music that people can listen to around the world.”

In October 2017, Kris released the English single “Deserve” featuring Travis Scott, which became the first and only single by a Chinese artist to reach No. 1 in the U.S. iTunes chart. The song has expanded Kris’ exposure to the American market, earning a featuring spot on the American media brand Billboard.
