South Korean epic fantasy drama Arthdal Chronicles is confirmed for a second season and A-listed stars Lee Joon Gi and Shin Se Kyung will reportedly play the lead roles.
Arthdal Chronicles 2 is set in a mythical continent as mythical heroes and tribes compete for power. The second season takes place 10 years after the first season and will see Lee Joon Gi and Shin Se Kyung replacing Song Jong Ki and Kim Ji Won’s characters after entering adulthood.
Although the first season received mixed reviews, many fans are looking forward to seeing Lee Joon Gi and Shin Se Kyung’s interpretations of the characters and their chemistry. Lee Joon Gi has been expanding his acting range in recent years and fans believe he is the perfect actor to lead the drama. Meanwhile, the drama would be Shin Se Kyung’s first work since joining IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment.
Screenwriter Kim Young Hyun and Park Sang Yeon who previously wrote the first season are confirmed to be returning to write the new script while Kim Kwang Sik, known for his work in 2018’s film The Great Battle, has signed on as the director.
Arthdal Chronicles 2 is expected to premiere in 2023.
