Mr. Hong Kong 2010 Winner, William Chak, Pockets $30,000

Leaving ATV for TVB, William Chak swept the awards at the Mr. Hong Kong 2010 Contest on August 21st. The competition became a “personal show” for William, who won the Mr. Hong Kong 2010 title, as well as the Mr. Vitality, Mr. Charming, and Contestant Most Noticed by Online Fans Awards.

Prior to the evening of the Mr. Hong Kong 2010 Contest, William also won several sponsor awards at the contest’s promotional events, such as Contestant with Most Charm, Mr. Energetic, Tourism Ambassador Award, and Contestant with Most Financial Talent Awards. Returning home in the AM hours on Sunday morning after winning the Mr. Hong Kong 2010 title, Willilam hugged his mother joyfully to celebrate his victory. William’s brother uploaded their photos to share their joy with family and friends.

Hosted Children’s Program at ATV

Twenty-five year-old William comes from a middle class family and lives in the Diamond Hill area. After resting for one night, William went shopping with his elder brother. The two men entered a piano store to look at an electronic keyboard. Mindful of their expenditures, the brothers only bought some cold drinks at McDonald’s and the returned home.

Although William won all four awards distributed on the evening of the Mr. Hong Kong 2010 Contest, the total prize money was approximately $30,000 (HKD).  William was the Second Runner-up in ATV’s 2005 Mr. Asia Contest. He worked at ATV for four years and hosted children’s program, Brainy E Class <有腦 E班>. His monthly income at ATV was approximately $10,000 (HKD). He should have better opportunities at TVB now.

TVB Deputy Director of External Affairs, Tsang Sing Ming said, “TVB may not necessarily sign a contract with the Mr. Hong Kong winner; it depends on the results of their screen test and the candidate’s personal aspirations. However, there is a high possibility that we will offer a contract to William Chak.”

Two years ago, William Chak left ATV after limited career opportunities. Although William dated ATV’s Miss Asia 2007 Second Runner-up, Stacey Sun Chen, this did not deter him from leaving ATV after his contract expired. Afterwards, William took classes overseas and returned to enter TVB’s Mr. Hong Kong 2010 Contest.

Jayne: William Chak’s experience in competing in the Mr. Asia contest and his four years at ATV definitely gave him an advantage over other candidates. He certainly knows how to carry himself and respond to the media’s questions. The fact that he swept all awards in this year’s Mr. Hong Kong 2010 Contest shows a lot. Hopefully TVB will promote William. I think he is a cross between Michael Miu and Leon Lai.

  1. Congrats to William. I didn’t expect him to be 25. I thought he’s older than that from pics. Then again, I didn’t watch the show 🙂

  2. Very surprised at Tsang Sing Ming’s respond. I thought they will automatically offer to sign the winner. It depends on whether the winner wanted to accept or not.

Then again, Tsang is quite a lousy PR. He always gives nonsense responds to questions.

  3. I’m not surprised that William won all the awards, but it was so predictable that it must have been a horrible feeling for the other contestants.
I’m glad they changed the swimwear segment so that there is no “touching” among the female audience this year, but it would have been nice to still keep the group separated into the “youth” and “mature” group so that there can be other winners as well. When the audience can only vote for 1 person among the 10, with William’s popularity, of course he’s going to win. No doubt about it. So I did feel bad for the other guys-one only got 3 votes I think for the swimwear segment. But William did deserve it. He seemed to be very humble and supportive of the other contestants, which is a great reflection of his character. My other favorite contestants were number 5 and 8. 6 would be ok if he smiled more and had more confidence. Number 3 was so cute the way he talked and he is quite talented!

  4. Maybe TVB should name it like Miss HK where they have 1st and 2nd runner up. Then, no one person can sweep all the awards.

  5. Can anyone let me know William is no. ? in d contest. Is it no10?

  6. His body is hot! I agree he looks older than his age. He looks 30.

  7. Would anyone here give me some links to watch more photos of the swimwear part of this show, please? Thank you in advance!
