Rebecca Zhu Hopes to Be a Mother Before 40

The 32 year-old actress’s ideal family includes a boy and a girl.

Former Miss Hong Kong Rebecca Zhu (朱晨麗), was recognized for her role in A General, A Scholar and an Eunuch <超時空男臣> in 2017 when she won Best Supporting Female Actress. Heavily promoted by TVB, the 32-year-old Suzhou native impressed viewers with her memorable performance in the recently concluded Fist Fight <兄弟>. She shares her filming preparations, career expectations and life plans in a recent interview.

High Expectations of Herself

Keen to improve her acting skills, Rebecca puts immense pressure on herself. “I hope to do better and minimize any dialogue outtakes so as not be a burden to my co-workers. I’d feel bad if I haven’t prepared myself fully,” said Rebecca.

Putting in lots of hard work, the actress shared that she would sacrifice sleeping hours to memorize her lines. “It would be best if I can time-travel; I feel that time is never enough! After filming ends, I would work on the next script, filling in pinyin pronunciation. Because I started acting late, and am not gifted, I need more time to work on my flaws. I won’t be able to sleep if I have yet to finish my ‘homework’, so I’d would memorize the script before going to bed,” While she keeps up her rigorous work etiquette, Rebecca has also realized the importance of giving herself proper rest.

A Traditionalist at Heart

Already in her 30s, Rebecca wishes to level up her career but also wants to have a family of her own in the future. “It is risky for women to give birth after 40; I hope to be able to form a family in my 30s. I’m rather traditional and love kids, so it would be perfect if I can have a boy and a girl in future!”

When asked if rumored boyfriend Matthew Ho (何廣沛) is part of her future family plans, Rebecca remains coy and said she wants to focus on her career at the moment, “It’s just rumors, (everyone) is busy with our own careers. He has lots of potential and both of us have further room for progress, so we encourage each other along. I’ll think about the future (when it comes), as I’m still in my early 30s,”
