Ruco Chan’s New Sunglasses Brand, Ruco Vision

Ruco Chan’s (陳展鵬) career in the entertainment industry has been a tumultuous one. The 40-year-old actor not only bounced between stations with little success, he also bounced around between jobs in order to meet ends meet during his lowest tide. His persistence, however, finally led him to being recognized as one of TVB’s leading actors. After 20 years of hard work, he finally clinched the TV King award for his role in A Fist within Four Walls <城寨英雄>.

Due to the success of the drama, TVB produced The Unholy Alliance <同盟>, which was a sister production of A Fist within Four Walls. The heavily promoted drama brought back the popular pairing of Ruco and Nancy Wu (胡定欣). The series, however, was overshadowed by the untimely exposure of Ruco’s relationship with former Miss Hong Kong 2016 participant, Phoebe Sin (單文柔).

Ruco’s long-awaited success did not end there. His true passion actually lies in fashion. Riding on his continued popularity and success on the small screen, he recently ventured into the world of business and announced his own sunglasses brand, Ruco Vision, in October.

Speaking about inspiration behind the design of his sunglasses, Ruco integrated elements of the Northern Lights and the Big Dipper to gives wearers a transformative experience of the bigger galaxy beyond. He said , “See what I see, Feel what I feel…”

Ruco’s Long Road to Success

Taking a look back at Ruco’s long path to success, he was heavily influenced by his father since young. His father’s love for ping pong eventually led Ruco to join the Hong Kong Table Tennis team at the age of 13. After graduating from high school, Ruco quit the team and joined TVB’s acting class. However, Ruco failed to achieve success and starred in forgettable minor roles, prompting him to leave TVB in 1998 in pursuit of a singing career. Unfortunately, the record company was bought out soon after and Ruco’s contract became defunct.

With no filming jobs and struggling to make ends meet, Ruco began working as a construction worker, earning merely $300 HKD per day. It wasn’t until his return to TVB and his standout role as Keith Lau (劉思傑) in 2011’s The Other Truth <真相> did Ruco’s career take a turn for the better.

I think Michael Miu has already been there and done that. Any type of optical wear has very slim market growth in Asia unless they are truly able to provide something remarkable and extraordinary. Best of luck to Ruco, though.

@coralie I guess no matter how much fame and money he have, he will still crave for more. A greedy person like him will never be satisfied despite having everything. These pathetic, money grubbing fame seeker is probably going to spend the rest of his life chasing after fame and fortune.
