Tavia Yeung Votes For Herself In Fight For TV Queen
Tavia Yeung (杨怡) and Cilla Kung (乐瞳) attended an event on August 14th for a a promotional event for Wonderful Worlds of Whampoa <知识第一 黄埔挑战赛>. At that event, Tavia also sang a song Beautiful for Life <终身美丽>.
After that event, Tavia expressed that she was actually afraid of singing. There was once when she was singing, the music suddenly died and thus cast a shadow of fear in her life. Earlier there were reports that TVB had the intention to heavily promote Tavia, Myolie Wu (胡杏儿), Fala Chen (陈法拉) and Linda Chung (钟嘉欣) in the competition for the title of TV Queen at the Anniversary Awards.
In reply to this, Tavia responded, “Every year, when it comes to this time of the year, the media will discuss this subject without fail. This year, the topic about all of us snatching for the award in our capacity as TVB’s “biological” daughters was very good. Afterall, every one of us are close to each other and are like one big family behind closed doors. The four of us are all one of TVB’s. Furthermore, some of us are good friends with each other. Regardless of who wins the award, the rest of us will still be happy for her. But of course I will submit a vote for myself. Although I have more dramas which broadcasted this year, I don’t feel that I have a bigger chance of winning. Instead, I worry that it would make viewers confused instead.”
Joel Chan (陈山聪) and Florinda Ho (何超云) publicly disclosed their romance, making it a hot topic in the city, their friends from the entertainment circle also sent their blessings one after another. Very clear that Joel is just like Bernice during the Bernice – Moses incident. Everyone bashed Joel. Some artists, even not being asked, now make themselves like very close to Joel and sent him blessings. They are nowhere to see when Joel is bashed, only pop up when he is officially with Florinda. That makes me laugh at what we call “good friends” and it’s more funny to see their fans praised them as “understanding, good friends”.

A celeb can choose not to comment (which I have no problem with) on a particular issue or person because they may not necessarily know what’s going on. By speaking out, this causes a lot more misunderstanding so that’s the reason why most choose not to speak out. Besides, this is a forum – of course I have a right to speak/comment.
I implied nothing about Joel being a bad person. My opinion is that Sharon sounded disappointed with Joel because he didn’t return her phone calls and kept the whole situation away from his closest friends. Hence the friendship has been affected as a result and doesn’t seem as close as before. I am not the only person who had this opinion. Other people had also had the same thoughts as me. So yes did put words in my mouth.

Lol, I would be confused too! Yes, having too many series is not her fault since they were arranged by TVB and she has no choice but to do what TVB wants her to do if she wants to continue to be promoted and be obedient to Virginia Lok.
But as I always say, Tavia’s acting skills haven’t been up to par recently, it is quite obvious that the constant back-to-back filming has been overstretching and straining her out, if would be good for her to take a break and go to China and watch and learn from the seniors there at a slower pace of life and then come back to Hong Kong with a better set of acting skills.
Honestly, I don’t think these awards really mean that much anymore since TVB sadly just gives it to whomever they want to give it to and not to the one that truly deserves it. Not sure if Tavia will win it or not, but we may be surprised…I guess these awards are more for show and for offering the artist who wins more opportunities to make money and have more acting jobs. However, as to whether they have any true recognition for someone that talent, I question that…

I fully agree with you on the award presentation, it seems TVB didn’t practise presentating the award to those truly deserved yet they simply present them to those highprofile and are currently in favour by TVB or 620 which I think is truly sad and decrease the motivation to their artists. I’m sure there are many more besides STeven ma and etc who is dissatisfied with TVB’s arrangement. I think the saddest part is People tends to befriended those who are currently promoted by TVB eventhough deep down they knew they’re just nothing but empty shell…

I haven’t watched Fala and Myolie’s latest series, “Lives of Omission” and “Ghetto Justice” respectively, so I don’t know how they acted in there so as you can see, I didn’t give any comments about their recent acting.
If you are talking about their past acting skills, as @Funn Lim pointed out in another thread, I noticed that Fala’s only flaw is that she tends to pout alot when acting like trying to convey her emotions through pouting and I find her performance to be worst in “Links to Temptation”, the rest of her acting still passable.
Myolie, I find her to be a very versatile actress, like a chameleon, she can grasp most roles well except for her crying scenes are not convincing enough especially in “Master of Tai Chi” and can sometimes come across as being annoying.
Tavia, I have watched her from when she first started in the industry with “The Awakening Story” then “Eternal Happiness”, “Golden Faith”, “The Vigilante In The Mask”, “The W Files”, “The Academy”, “Yummy Yummy” and so on (too many to list it down from memory). Her performance so far in “Yes Sir Sorry Sir” and “The Other Truth” has been kind of stiff, not as good as her breakthrough performances in “Dicey Business”, “Face to Fate”, “Land of Wealth”, “Sweetness in the Salt” and “Moonlight Resonance”, I don’t know how to tell you what’s wrong but if you are a long-time viewer of her shows, you can see and feel it. To me, her performances out of the five, used to be the best but now it appears to be trailing behind Myolie.

If you feel that our comments are too stressful for you then don’t read, it’s as simple as that. @Funn: Nicole Kidman is also my fave from Moulin Rouge. She is an amazing actress. But the botox kill all the expressions and make her face so wooden. In the movie Golden something, Nicole, during the last scene, when she rmbs that she is the mother of the small girl, I can feel the emotion in her eyes but… yes, her face looks like a mask.
Golden Compass, I also saw that. That movie in 2010, her face was yes wooden , maybe the botox was newly inject at the time. Now in 2011, her face got little better now, but I think the botox ruin her naturaly beauty, she would have aging very well.

*Tavia – Pinocchio nose, unchallenging/similar roles, too many films (see her all the time)
*Fala – unexperienced, talks with an accent, not all roles are suitable for her
*Linda – boring as both an actress and person, unexperienced, overhyped, weakling
*Kate – pouts, sells body for sex appeal, can’t act, can’t sing, all you can do is hit her butt

Did you start reading the manga, “Sanctuary” which I recommended last time? 🙂 I also like Slam Dunk. I watched some episodes of Yu Yu Hakusho but didn’t like it that much, maybe because of the horror genre. I still prefer watching anime over manga because the visuals in motion add to the experience.
@Jayne: Not yet :P. I’m waiting for it to publish all before starting because I dun like to follow each eps of the manga. However, I’m reading another manga with the same author with Sanctuary.
I dun like anime that much because there are changes in the drawing :(. I prefer the original anime that not based on any manga. Gibli Studio’s. I think you all heard of Spirited away from Gibli Studio because it won an Oscar. However, my favourite Gibli works is Mononoke Hime (Wolf princess) and Sound of Silent. Talk about Sound of Silent, the Japanese version of Take me home, country road is so wonderful.
P/S: Yu Yu Hakusho is really interesting in the part when Youko Kurama appeared :P. Haha, it’s my favourite character. He is a fox spirit, cool, calm and smart. Of course kinda evil, keke. Really like the way he kills his enemies. I like Kurama but Youko Kurama (his original form) is even cuter.
But I like all 4 main chacs: Yusuke, Kurama, Hiei and Kuwabara. Dun like in HunterxHunter (another work of the same author with YYH), I only like Killua, Leorio and the evil guy Kuroro.

I like Hiei in YUYU last time and I’m into Naruto, one piece, Gantz and gintama nowadays. Stop reading bleach for sometime alrady as the story is getting a bit boring to read.
Yu Yu Hakusho is more for guys. The plot mostly is about tournaments, battles and fights.
But, ironically, that’s one of the very few anima that I’ve watch the complete series. 😛

@Kidd: YYH is an action shounen, for guys of course. But a lot of girls like it.Haha, it’s like more girls like Yaoi than guys in fact. I read an article about Yamane Ayano (a famouse yaoi manga authour) yesterday and she said that in her autograph session, mostly girls came. So shounen is for guy, but girls like it.
Haizz, most guys I know only like to read ecchi =.=. They also read shounen, some read shoujo but ask them for their fave, ecchi, especially action ecchi will be the response.

I used to like Ichigo in Bleach and the story was kinda intrigue at first but it got bored after he won the battle with Aizen. I almost quit Naruto but the current story of naruto heading back to Konoha village is getting interesting so I just stick with Naruto till now. Oh yeah I forgot to tell ya since you like shounen anime which is also my favourite, Claymore is another action/shounen anime about female warrior battling with monsters which is also good to read. One piece is shounen and kinda hillarious type.
@Kidd: Not many guys like Yuri. They like Ecchi or even Hentai more. Action Ecchi is their favourite.
Maybe the girls now like fighting more? Most of YYH fans I know are girls :). Or girls are more open to such thing like FC, fan, etc. more?

@ lol: the light treatment to get rid of hair permenant is quite hurt. It’s kinda similar to use laser to kilk the hair or just the same. The black hair will accept the light and disappear but the light color ones will be harder and will come back. So hair still exist even you use such treatment. Dont blv wat the ads say. I think you mean electrolysis which is when they treat the hairs one by one with a special needle and yes it hurts. I have heard from some people that have tried say it does hurt, but not as badly as we think. It is more of a tingling feeling from what I heard. It takes a long time compared to laser since laser treats larger areas while electrolysis treats one hair at a time. I guess you can get rid of the darker hairs faster and and more efficiently than the lighter hairs.

And San Francisco is nice, have nice beach and many nice scenary.

Yeah I have been trying to lose my body weight too, trying to cut back on my carbohydrates intake now cause I realized the body weight will be weighing on our knees as we get old and given that I broke my knee recently while ice skating, the more I realized the importance of losing my body weight.

I have the same preference.:) For guys, it’s also easier for them to change their bodies to be more muscular through dedicated weight lifting program. So no excuse to not lift those weights. For women, it’s harder for us to change our body shape because we possess more fat percentage compared to men.
No Korean entertainers are having great body especially the boy groups.

I heard that being thin is a must in Thailand. One of my buddies goes to Thailand every year and although she is not fat at all, she is considered meaty in Thailand since the girls there are really thin. They expect girls to be not just light skin, but also really thin in order to be attractive.
Then the girls will wish to turn back the hand of time to the Tang dynasty where meaty/fat women are valued. Skinny girls won’t have husband :P.

Regarding thin girls, i read from an article that to work in those exclusive night club where rich men often visit, hostess there need to be very pretty aka big boobies, light skin tone, young and attractive feature. They have a set of rules for these girls too such as You can’t gain weight as signed in the contract, once you gains weight even if its only 1kg, these girls will be penaltify. Well i was just talking about those girls working in exclusive nightclubs and it doesn’t implement to those you’re talking about..
Under some work conditions and the places you work required you to at least look pretty.
I work at a fashion department shop before , and we advertise and sales clothes. So I know this, the girl they choose to work their are young girls with decent face and body. So when customers come, they will be interest in the clothes and buy it. At least the clothes wear on the girls work there have to look decent, if you ugly, chances you won’t be hire to work in a fashion shop.
It is harsh but it is the true, and pretty people often get hire more, unless it is a professional job where it required degree then if you pretty and no degree, they won’t hire you. But if jobs not require a degree especially related to fashion, waitress, hotess .. etc.. required to at least match their looks demanding.

I can see that and imagine that since I think if you were big, fat and ugly, I highly doubt that most will hire you to work in those high class places like you mentioned.I agree with LeilaFan that it is sad reality that in the real world whether you are hired of not will depend on your looks as well. I’m referring to my country, I read from an article that someone carried out an interview with these girls who works as a nightclub’s hostess for people from the upscale/highclass/rich.
These exclusive nightclubs have this strict rule for these girls, once you’re fat, you’ll be penaltify because they signed contract with them and they’re not allowed to gain extra weight. That’s to maintain the quality of the girls in their clubs. Also, these girls can live a very lavish life too, many of them drove mercedes s-series, carry coach,prada,and other branded handbags because each of the girl costs about $8000 to $10,000 when they’re called or booked to hang out with the customer. The room they rent to enjoy with these girls already costs $8000-10,000, these rooms look really like palace.

No prob on the clarifying part and yup staying thin is really hard LOL. I’m now weight 51kg sometime 50kg it depends on the quantity of food i have everyday and I find it really hard to lose weight till I’m back to my pre-natal weight which is 47kg.
I think we just need to eat healthy avoid red meat if possible and only eat white meat such as fish. Eat plenty of vegetable and avoid softdrinks as softdrinks can make you gain weight without you notice! Avoid fast food such as Mcdonalds, wEndy, pizza etc. And you mustn’t eat after 10pm too 🙂
I agree with Funn! The Korean males have really good bodies! Nearly all of them have a six pack when filming/ promoting songs. If they have to take off their top in a movie/ drama, they will definitely work hard for it. I lived in Korea for a year, and the men are really masculine proportion wise. The majority of the younger generation work out and are pretty tall too. They beat most other Asian country I’ve been to so far. It is just that they have lean and long muscles instead of the Caucasian beefed up sort.
I am surprised also. The korean men are so big! I saw only pictures. But my family went there for vacation said generally the guys are big built, may not be tall but definitely most are bulky. HK guys are to me ok also, seen some handsome ones who should be in TVB.

It is true that Tavia appears more onscreen compare to before. But I think she is most outstanding compare to the rest (e.g. Myolie, Fala and Kate). Her acting is good and she is very versatile. She brings out the character she acted in the dramas. I don’t understand why netizens cannot appreciate the artists’ hard work but keep on finding faults.
Well no actress or actor is perfect so regardless of how good you are, you will have flaws and not everyone will like you. No one can be praised and liked by everyone. Even the veterans and professional actors and actress are constantly criticized and still try to improve day by day, so Tavia of course will be since she is still just a new actress when you compare to the veterans.
