Veronica Shiu Wins Miss Hong Kong 2014 Crown
The Miss Hong Kong 2014 pageant finals concluded on August 31. Contestant #15, Veronica Shiu (邵珮詩), won the crown with 156,191 votes, as well as the Miss Photogenic and Miss Friendship awards. Contestant #9 Erin Wong (王卓淇) was named first runner-up with 28,894 votes, and #7 Katherine Ho (何艷娟) was the second runner-up with 24,903 votes. The winners were selected based on a combination of votes from viewers as well as celebrity judges.

She enjoys singing, Latin dance, cooking, and traveling. Asked about her win, Erin said, “I was confident and calm during the pageant, but when the results were announced, I was stunned.”
Katherine Ho is a 22-year-old law student whose dream is to become a successful individual to serve society. With a 5-feet-5-inch frame, Katherine weighs 96 pounds and possesses a 32-23-33-inch figure. Katherine impressed judges with her educational background and appeared poised during the interview segment, successfully setting aside earlier reports regarding her active social lifestyle. Katherine thanked her family’s support to help her realize her childhood dream in joining the pageant, “I shared my experiences in the pageant with my mother. My mother cheered me on and said I will succeed!”
Shocking Results
When the top three finalists were announced, the results stunned viewers and the show’s hosts. MCs Eric Tsang (曾志偉) and Carol Cheng (鄭裕玲) acted shocked on stage. Hot favorites, #3 Linna Huynh (黃碧蓮) and #11 Sofiee Ng (吳凱欣), were speculated to have high chances of being placed.
Contestant #1 Jan Tse (謝芷倫) snagged tabloid headlines earlier due to her dating life. Although reported to be engaged to her long-time boyfriend, Jan allegedly tried to hide her dating status. Teased once again during finals night, Jan replied, “If I were married, the marriage certificate would have my name.” MC Nat Chan rebutted,
The reports claim that you are engaged!” while Jan avoided to respond directly.
During the interview rounds, contestant #5 CK Leung (梁詩其) was asked whom she would introduce to bachelorettes Carol Cheng and Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼). CK said, “I’ll introduce a well-bred man for Carol because she is very cultured. Beautiful ladies match with handsome men, so I’ll match Charmaine Sheh with Bosco Wong (黃宗澤).” While CK’s remarks attempted to flatter Charmaine and Bosco, who were celebrity judges at the pageant finals, the stars appeared to be embarrassed to be put on the spot.

There’s nothing “wrong” with that however, I am very curious because there are probably 100000000 contestants each year who are Hk citizens entered the pagrant yet the winners of 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2007, 2013 are all from Vancouver. In addition, the winners of miss Chinese international for the year of 2001, 2002,2004,2005,2010 and 2013 are also from Vancouver. other than Vancouver, there’s not a lot of winners from other parts of the world so I am very fascinated by thes statistics.

Possibly because most immigration occurred from HK to Vancouver compared with any other destination. The people who immigrated were likely either rich, educated or both…. So could provide plenty of opportunities to their kids?

So unfair because if Sofie was in top 3, it’s obvious she will win the crown and not Veronica. TVB unfairly blocked Sofie and other hot favourite Linna and putting unfavourable and ugly Erin and Katherine in top 3 along the average Veronica. This looks like a staged event!

Well TVB purposely don’t want Sofie or Linna to win! The voting only eligible for a supposedly ‘jury’ chosen top 3 and the juries must be either blind or just following TVB script written by variety show director Sandy Yu! They chose 3 pork chops instead of Sofie Ng and Linna!
Someone has to investigate the background of #9 Erin Wong and # 7Katherine Ho and if they have connections with TVB! I don’t get how these two pork chops can get into top 3! Remember the case of Gigi Wong using connection to get her son hosting jobs!

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and since the winner got the most votes, i guess most people who voted think she’s pretty? I don’t know about how she fared in the Q&A since i didn’t bother to watch. In any case, the winner will either be this plain Jane or the next. There’s really no outstanding contestant looks-wise this year. They all have the girl-next-door look.

Not surprised that she won at all… she has the girl-next-door appeal that can make her popular in Hong Kong and easy to cast in dramas (versus Carat from two years ago, who looks more ice queen-like and unapproachable). Whether she does well or not in the Miss Chinese International competition, I think we’ll see her more in the entertainment business!

Initially, solely on pics, my choice was #11 (she looks so much like Kelly Chen + a bit of gloria tang tho im a fan of neither), after watching the Today VIP (green room) of all the Top 10, I warmed up to #15 and am really happy she won. Like sisley last year, her personality and smile won me over instead of classic beauty. I though HK voters would pick #1, #11, and #9 for some reason though, so I am surprised.

Well Veronica was one of my pics, rep Van! Not sure how I feel about the other two, have been thinking #3 and #12 would be top 3. I still don’t understand why everyone keeps mentioning #11, she lacks charisma and looks dazed in every photo. Her smile does not have the real down to earth feel and glow that Gloria has.

Contestants in Miss Universe represents their country. Hong Kong is a city in China, therefore they could not participate in Miss Universe.

By HK standard if you saw her on the street she’s pretty…but by Vancouver standards she’s so plain. I could walk on the street in Vancouver for about 5 minutes and instantly find you a girl prettier than her by a mile.
I really liked Linna actually. Linna was real, genuine, and pretty. Perhaps the only thing that held her back was the language issue – I know HK’ers really hate Chinese people who can’t speak Cantonese properly.
Linna should’ve received a top 3 spot. She was one of the prettier girls. Annemarie Wood, Victoria Jane Jolly, and even 1999’s 1st RU placed despite displaying even weaker Cantonese skills.
Pic think that at least 15 was chosen as the winner amongst the top 3. It was pretty weird that they didn’t even have a top 5 and cut it straight down to the Top 3. TVB should’ve at least shown the full rankings among the top 10 because there weren’t any statistics shown or proof which made it seem shady and it may have been. I was kinda bummed that miss photogenic went to Veronica as well and that Linna lost by a vote…sigh I just don’t get how #9 got 1st runner up…I don’t mind 7 since I thought she answered pretty well in questions. I guess the biggest shocker was that 11 was shut out of the top 3. :/

Something wrong with the judges. It’s a beauty pageant, hence, looks should play at least a bigger role in deciding the winners. How in the world did 7 & 9 get picked???? 3,5,6,11,12 all look better and performed pretty decent imo

I guess people voted for #15 because she seems so genuine and sincere. Also, here smile is nice! I’m still shocked that #3 or #11 didn’t make it though. For me the first runner up is ok but the second runner up isn’t to my taste! Hope Veronica all the best. She seems so nice….well done
Because #3 and #11 didn’t answer questions well. #3 provided some entertainment, but this isn’t hong kong’s funniest home videos. Her answers weren’t good. #11 also struggled a bit during Q & A segments. And I like 11 too, she was one of my 3 favourites going in along with #6 and #13.
Speaking of 13, I think she’s very cute, but besides that, she had nothing going for her. Her performance was awful. Easily the worst.
Yeah…#11 had a very awkward performance for me and she seemed not very confident…
What’s the fuss. Many MHK contestants didn’t win the crown but went on to bigger things than the winner – Charmaine Sheh, Kenix Kwok, Ada Choi, Myolie Wu, Maggie Cheung.

I find #12 give such stupid answer during intro round when Joey asked her who should u find to intro Hk and she said Joey. Then when Eric said that u pick Joey just cos she was the one ask u this question and she said nope. But when Eric asked her,how about 2nd person to intro hk,she said Eric. What a lame answer which Eric find it silly too.
Also there is this contestant called Crystal. She has the looks but too bad her interview round really sucks.

TVB has always prioritized intelligence over looks in MHK. Based on looks, I believe 3, 11 and 12 should’ve won, but their QA segment was very lacking if you actually saw the show last night. I believe 15 deserves the title the most out of the top 3 because she had a solid performance throughout the paegant.
Those that actually watched the pageant would easily figure out why your 11 didn’t make top 3 as her answers pale in comparison to 7, 9, and 15 even though I do agree that 7 and 9 aren’t the best looking…

I actually wasnt rooting for no 15. but after the competition i grew to like her. She has this cute bubbly personality and deserved the crown with her witty answers. Was actually rooting for car model but turned out all she did was trying too hard on being sexy and she literally was bursting outta her dress while the others had demure tops.It must be pretty humiliating to see ur scores live and i really hated the likes/dislike segment. Nobody should go through that embarassment live on tv.
