Vicki Zhao to Move to Hong Kong?

Chinese actress Vicki Zhao (趙薇) has slowed down her work output ever since giving birth to her daughter, Huang Xin (黃新), in Singapore in 2010. Though the 37-year-old actress occasionally made guest appearances in films, and even released her successful directorial debut, So Young <致我們終將逝去的青春>, in April, she spends most of her time with her husband and 3-year-old daughter.

With a property tycoon prodigy, Huang You Long (黃有龍), as her husband, money struggles will be the last of Vicki’s worries. In 2011, Vicki purchased the Chaeteau Monlot in France for more than $40 million HKD. Last year, her husband purchased a $100 million HKD mansion in Tsim Sha Tsui for Vicki, who frequently goes to Hong Kong for business trips. It is reported that Vicki and her family has intentions to move to Hong Kong for the long-term, and that the parents are currently searching for a top kindergarten school for their daughter in Hong Kong.

Recently, Vicki was spotted in a $5 million HKD Rolls-Royce luxury car with her husband in Wan Chai. Around 8 p.m. on Monday night, Huang You Long and Vicki, dressed entirely in black, stopped by a sushi restaurant in Wan Chai and ate dinner with some friends. The group exited the restaurant around 10:30 p.m., and chatted outside for another half hour. By 11 p.m., the couple’s Rolls-Royce driver arrived to take Vicki and her husband back to their Tsim Sha Tsui luxury apartment.

  1. Wonder if it’s for Love or for Money? Vickie is pretty well off herself ( so I read on the newspaper), but I wouldn’t doubt it’s not also for money.

    1. who knows what brings people to like the opposite. You can ask that same question to Gigi Lai….what did she see in her husband and was it just for money???

      1. definitely money and stability for Gigi – it was great timing too with her brother’s situation and all.

      2. In Gigi’s case, money is definitely a part of it but we all wonder if it was all it was?? I have a feeling that she married him out of gratitude as well since he was there for her during one of the hardest times of her life. I guess it is out “Qing Yi” as well but you still wonder if it is because of “love”. If it is love, it may be the compansionship type of love instead of the romantic type of love.

      3. Thanks! I just looked at the photo posted on the above link. I know Gigi’s husband is rather old, but don’t know that he needs a cane already.

      4. Gigi’s husband, he use his cane because his legs have problems, one of his leg is shorter than the other leg, and he have a fake leg. It have nothing to do with his age, LOL!

      5. Leila:
Thanks for letting me know. I never knew about her husband’s leg discrepancy. Sorry for Gigi then.

      6. Sandcherry,
You should not feel sorry for Gigi because she was not forced to marry him, she chose to. Also, if you have seen recent reports about her, she appears to be very happy and blissful so it is not like her life is hell or anything like that. Others who married rich and good looking guys do not even seem half as happy as Gigi.

      7. I agree HeTieShou that Gigi looks happy. Her husband seems like a really nice and funny man. If she married him out of gratitude, I would think that love has grown between them. 🙂

      8. I admit that Gigi’s husband is not handsome or anything, but he has a very kind and sweet look. I heard he dotes on Gigi a lot and isn’t that what any woman or man would want in their life? Someone who loves and values them and they also feel the same way back.

      9. Agree with you HeTieShou,
Her husband looks sweet and kind, he seems humorous and cheerful as well. He laughs heartily in pictures. With a doting attitude, a kind heart and a humorous cheerful outlook, Gigi is very blessed. I feel that her ordinary looking husband has totally matched up to her beauty with his personality.

      10. Good points SiYing! Yea, in life if you don’t have looks than you must have personality. Some are lucky to have both but with Gigi’s husband, he seems to have a kind heart and great personality and I feel that is much more important than looks. Looks wear out as you get older but your personality is what remains.

      11. Thanks HeTieShou! 🙂

Yup, I suppose Gigi’s husband is the type that one would grow to love. Like a diamond in the rough. Much better than those who look really good, but in the end, just another boring flower vase.

    2. It is definitely partially for the money, however, the real question is, is it only for money?? IF it is love as well, then that is normal and of course many would want a guy that is economically well off so that they don’t have to work as hard. Who would want to marry a guy that has nothing???

      1. Spoken with wisdom. How can anyone disagree as it make sense?! If romance alone works how come so many divorces…? Things need balance. Middle way perhaps is the best?

  2. I am not surprised if Vicki wants to move to Hk. Many in China are rich and well off, but yet want to leave and immigrate to other countries. Many mainlanders want to live in HK or move elsewhere if they can.

    1. She already is a Singaporean citizen.

It is not unusual for the super rich to have multiple residence in various places.

  3. She’s very lucky to have such a rich husband. Can buy whatever she wants not needs. Who wouldn’t want to marry the rich? More stability and comfort. A peace of mind. Men would love to marry a rich wife to help them out as well if they ever want to achieve their dreams. So much easier to achieve your dreams when you have the money and having money equals to power.

    1. Munkimui, you are a little naive.
Don’t even think married to the rich is a guarantee ticket you will get all his asset. Here in western countries, many RICH millionair people have prenups. I read in a news there this billionair who ask his wife to sign prenups before they get married, to make sure she won’t run away with all his asset if they divorced, LOL!
Many rich people wives know their husband are out on business and have affairs and mistress, and they still have to quiet and live with it. Because if they make a big deal out of it, the husband might not give her money to spend or even divorce them.
And money does not equal to power, not in Democracy country. Do you think Bill Gate can use his BILLIONS USD to buy his chair to President of United States? No.
In China, look at many China Communist officials do a lot of dirty things and get away with it. But that is Red China, not here.
And to answer your question, I don’t want to married rich. But I wish you can married a rich man of your dream though, LOL!

      1. Based on all the facts about Gigi Lai and her husband, it is very hard for people to believe that Gigi Lai chose her husband for love and not for money.

      2. I can never be as patriotic as you, but just because USA isnt as vocal about the dirty things behind closed doors doesn’t really mean there cannot be much worse things happening on our soil as compared to China.

I mean really… USA chooses what kind of media to report. God knows how much they hide in the dark?

      3. I am sure that it is a lot worse in China ……….. more government controlled.

      4. Does everyone tend to forget about Gigi’s brother? Like he was a big part of the reason why Gigi had to marry her current husband.

In any case, companionship is almost as strong as love sometimes. And I do believe Gigi and her husband value one another, maybe not the erotic way but enough to wake up in the morning not feeling miserable.

      5. Regardless, each have their own ways. Some cope better, some get pampered.

      6. i guess gigi felt that she owed him so she married him. She respects him but i dont think she loves him. She cares for him cause he is good to her and her family. But she is not in love with him. That was just my personal thoughts. My apologize if i said anything wrong. I am sure she could totally pick other super rich guy too cause she is very pretty but her husband was there for her. And if you could marry someone you love that would be awesome but marriage has other factors in it, love is just one of the factors.

      7. I think I support Sophia’s comments. With Gigi Lai’s attractive face and body, she could have easily married someone else who is better looking, younger and loaded with money. Fortunately or unfortunately, her husband was there to help and comfort her when she needed help. But Gigi would not have married him if he was not so wealthy and loaded.

      8. Honestly, in Gigi’s case only she would know for sure if she “loves” her husband or not. Also, there are different kinds of love. If she does love him, then it may not be the romantic/erotic type of love but maybe the companionship kind of love?? I think gratitude is definitely a part of it since he was there for her when she needed financial support and comfort the most. I heard that he said this to her “Stop working, I will take care of you for life”. Gigi was so touched so she agreed to marry him.

I agree with Sophia that marriage is not always about love. Love is one of the factors but sadly it is sometimes not a part of it. People marry for gratitude, convenience, out of pity, paying a debt, their biological clock is ticking, and many other reasons that sadly do not involve love. In spite of all that, Gigi actually always looks happy and blissful so I would not say that she regrets marrying her husband. But seriously if we want to know if he likes/loves him for more than money, we can only get an idea if for example, he goes bankrupt or is not as rich as he is now and she still stays with him or not. Hopefully that does not happen, but if it ever did and she still stays by his side then we would have a better idea if she truly married him for money only or not.

      9. Crystal, USA is much better than Red China.
How about you Google search “Falungong organ harvesting”, where China Communist Party killed them, throw them in jail and take their organs to sale to make money. Why? Simply because they support Democracy and speak up against one party political system (in this case is Red China).
How about Google more about Tiananmen June 4th, 1989. Where Beijing college students were gunshot down and killed by China Communist Party because they protest.
How about Google more about Liu xiaobo, Ai weiwei. They are democracy activist that being throw in jail simply because they speak up for Freedom and Democracy for China.
But first make sure you use Freegate OK, because all this news are BLOCK by the China Communist party firewall.
This will be the ONLY time I reply to you Crystal, simply because I am going OFF topic.
I am an old woman, I’m sure you younger than me. Many things about China you don’t know. And no need to talk about it here, this is not political place.
And I apologize for going off topic
Anyways, I don’t care who rich or poor. In my eyes, rich or poor are both the same. I just like to see people happy with their family and loves one, celebrities or not.

      10. Hi Crystal and LeilaFan! 🙂

Sorry for going off topic as well.
I would think that there are things that are hidden, I have nothing against the US, my aunt, her family and their kids all live there. We visit often and it’s lovely.

One of my cousins worked for a government agency, her position was one that was highly sensitive where she held information. She did not reveal sordid details even to family members but she did give this quick story to us about how after she chose to resign from her position, that very day, 2 black cars with totally darkened windows tailgated her car and ruthlessly tried to bump her off the road.

She was extremely careful not to say that anyone tried to kill her but it could have just been a warning to her because it sure didn’t look like a coincidence.

This is just one of those things that doesn’t get onto the media. Can it really be a coincidence?

I personally find it too much of a coincidence that the collapsed WTC tower 7 housed the IRS, US Secret Service and C.I.A. But that’s just my opinion.

      11. Siying,

Interesting. Could you tell me more about your cousin? What your cousin did afterwards?

      12. “Don’t even think married to the rich is a guarantee ticket you will get all his asset. Here in western countries, many RICH millionair people have prenups. I read in a news there this billionair who ask his wife to sign prenups before they get married, to make sure she won’t run away with all his asset if they divorced, LOL!”

you can dig all the gold when you are still married, don’t need to divorce to get his or her money. having a rich partner help out a lot!!

corruption is everywhere..the US corruption was hidden so well than most countries.

      13. Leilafan,

Thank you for your opinions but I was not going to continue the conversation either as my comment was pretty close ended. It was basically saying “there are too many things in this world that the human eyes and ears cannot see or hear”. With that being said, value what you think is worth it but the comparisons need not exist.

      14. Siying,

Thank you for sharing this story. Whether it is a coincidence or not, I think it is better not to know. Sometimes not knowing the truth saves many lives.

      15. Agree with you Crystal. 🙂 iIt’s a complicated world out there. Nothing is black and white. A lot of grey areas sometimes better left on its own.

        @May,
My cousin is quite a bright individual who was offered prestigious scholarships from a young age, I suppose that’s how she got to where she was. After that incident, she has been working in the private sector ever since. She kept a very low profile and she didn’t do anything afterwards like report to authorities or whatever. Just lived a normal life. We all secretly think that it’s because they still have tabs on her. Well, like Crystal said. Better off not knowing. 🙂

      16. I agree that things get hidden purposely everywhere no matter where you live. We can never see a 100% transparent picture. However, I am pretty sure that it would be a lot worse in China. Just look at those food poisonous food sold or leaked to the marketplace in China. All we heard from the news could be just only 2% of the total events happened in China. As Leila said, all news are strictly controlled and blocked by the China Communist party firewall.

      17. @sandcherry,

I totally agree with you too. GiGi Lai could have got any hot and rich guy but she married her husband cause he was there for her and her family but she would not married him if he is not super rich. Thats just life.

  4. The entire article, all I can read is $$$$$$$.

    1. Either people in Hong Kong only care about $$$$$$$$$$$$ or Vicki Zhao does, or BOTH do.

  5. Good wealth is definitely a very attractive factor to all actresses in marriages. Who wants to marry a poor man and still has to struggle after marriage?

    1. Even the average girl would want to marry a rich/well off guy so actresses definitely would as well. Many would not want to marry someone that has nothing.

  6. Vicki and her family has been living in Singapore. I don’t know why she wants to move to Hong Kong.

I like Hong Kong, but I think Singapore is also a good country to live or to study.

    1. Agree. Don’t know why so many rich artistes want to live in Hong Kong which is such a small and crowded place. Why not in Singapore or China in their cases? Or their so-called residence in Hong Kong is only a summer or resort place?!

      1. I know, those apts OMG….
I went back n visit one time n staying @ a mom’s friends place that has 2 kids, they told us it’s already quite big in HK, inside i am thinking to myself HOLY CRAP hahahaa LOL…
never stay at any relatives after that, those hotels are not bad thou. =)

    2. Hong Kong is close to where the action is. Singapore is far from the spotlight and once you lose your momentum from the spotlight you become irrelevant. Not something Vicki wants, especially with the huge competition from the Mainland. Besides, if you have money Hong Kong is the better choice.

      1. Probably Vicki wants to be in close link with the Chinese film/TV industries. Hong Kong is definitely a better spot for that then. Many of the Hong Kong artistes also film in Mainland China.

  7. move to whatever country that has the lowest tax rate. simple.

    1. It could be the main reason why so many people move to live in Hong Kong. 15% income tax rate ceiling is surely a big temptation for many residents, especially those high-income ones.

In North America, it is easily 50% or more if you earn good incomes.

      1. And those rich people do not have to worry about health care or expensive rental expenses. They all have their own luxurious condos or even houses.

  8. I guess it’s good for ordinary people to be able to read about someone they have watched for so many years drive a Rolls Royce – so there’s no mystique to the general public about that type of lifestyle. I wonder at the motivation for flashiness – maybe they are government operatives assigned to be flashy to create an image of Mainland wealth – because WHY would a Mainlander buy anything in the French countryside?

    1. “…WHY would a Mainlander buy anything in the French countryside?”

To show off how rich they are.

      1. SHOW OFF is the main point haha..lol…sigh, no matter how rich she gets she will still be consider as a practical nobody in this French countryside? 🙂

      2. Why would HK’ers buying anything in say Vancouver Canada?

      3. I went to Richmond in Canada. It’s like Hong Kong 2.0, except just bigger.

      4. Terminator & dd:

I’m wondering for the longest time why they came here. They are the reason why youngster like me cannot afford to buy anything because they *uck up the house market here. And yes, Richmond is like a HK #2

  9. I am both surprised and amused that some here find her (purported) decision to have another residence somewhere to her liking as a violation of the natural order just because she is a “Mainlander”.

It is as though Mainlanders (unlike HK’ers)are not supposed to be able or allowed to do that.
