Vicky Chan Starved Herself for a Month to Lose Weight
Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛·回家之開心速遞> actress Vicky Chan (陳偉琪) is known for her voluptuous figure, this has not always been the case. The 27-year-old weighed 170 pounds when she was studying at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Sporting a round body, her waist was fatter than Bibendum, the Michelin Man. Determined to join the beauty pageant, Vicky lost 58 pounds in half a year using extreme weight loss measures.
In a phone interview, Vicky revealed the methods she used to shed nearly 60 pounds. She said, “Actually, the most important thing I did was change my lifestyle habits. When I was in college, I studied really hard but didn’t exercise much. Whenever I wrote papers, I would sit there for more than 10 hours at a time to write, and I would eat sweets and drink beer while at it. When I decided to lose weight, I stopped eating and drinking beer while writing papers. I was slowly losing weight after I cut out sweets and beer, but to speed up the process, somedays I only ate one meal of vegetable salad or not eat for two, three days. I tried everything to lose weight.”
However, she strongly discourages anyone from using the measures she did to lose weight. Vicky admits fasting will help get rid of the weight very quickly even without exercise, but it is very unhealthy. “The craziest thing I did was not eat food for a month. When I really couldn’t stand it anymore, I would eat one strand of vegetable. That time, I lost 98 pounds and it was the lighest I’ve ever been. But losing weight like that will make your face really sunken, it’s definitely not pretty and not healthy. Also, it’s going to bounce back quickly after a meal. There’s no shortcut to losing weight, you have to rely on a balanced diet and exercise to lose weight,” she recommended.
