Wu Jinyan Fans Are Boycotting Her New Yu Zheng Drama
Wu Jinyan (吴谨言) and Nie Yuan (聶遠) are teaming up again for a new television drama, their third collaboration after Story of Yanxi Palace <延禧攻略> and The Legend of Haolan <皓镧传>.
Temporarily titled Happiness Will Knock At Your Door <幸福一定来敲门>, also produced by Yu Zheng (于正) like the previous two, it tells the story of a doctor, played by Nie Yuan, who starts a family with an African woman. The two have a son. After his wife passes away, he realizes that the child was not his, but insists on raising the child as his own. He meets a young police officer, played by Wu Jinyan, and falls in love with her, starting a new family of three.
Reportedly, many Wu Jinyan fans are upset with the “ridiculous” storyline, calling it as insulting to Chinese women and doctors. Certain fans are professing that they will boycott the show and are rallying support to prevent the “positive and youthful” Wu Jinyan to be tied into filming the drama.
Yu Zheng voiced his disapproval of the boycott, saying, “Because of jealousy, because of wanting all the resources, they sow discord because they want to disrupt your ideas and ruin your plans. Fans are still young, impressionable, and easily swayed. It hurts me to see that there are those who are using the fans to wreck havoc, but I do believe that love can conquer all.”

How is this insulting to doctors and women??
I don’t have a problem with the story, but why can’t they pair her up with another male actor beside Nie Yuan? She teamed up with him three dramas in a row already. That’s kind of boring.

@potatochip maybe because he got cheated on and didn’t know? Lol, apparently it’s an insult to the all mighty profession (Chinese hail doctor as the best career path) to be cheated on by a non Chinese! Great logic but hey, these are crazy Chinese fans, don’t question their logic xD

Just googled the drama, people say it’s degrading to women because the story goes that the dude and the African lady got married but later found out that the child wasn’t his but he chose to raise it as his own anyway. So I guess the part about women cheating on men is degrading women….
@m0m0 Honestly, I don’t see how that is degrading to women…but then again, it’s Chinese fans we’re talking about so go figure. I also read somewhere that most of the fans who object are Wu JinYan’s fans and some of the reasons given was that she is “too young and beautiful” to be playing some old dude’s second wife, and a stepmother to boot (though they didn’t seem to have a problem with it in Yanxi…but probably because they weren’t fans then). So yea, definitely some immature and delusional fans right there…
These irrational and demanding c-fans are very young and immature but wield a lot of power in numbers. They were successful in pressuring Tong Liya to step down from a role about 30-something women.
