Tong Hua’s “The Cage of Love” Releases New Stills

Chinese writer Tong Hua (桐华) has formally stepped into the television industry as a producer. The upcoming period drama The Cage of Love <抓住彩虹的男人>, supported by the Zhejiang Dream Star Park Studios, has released its first set of new stills on May 20. The Republic series is written and produced by Tong Hua. Backed by the production team of Bu Bu Jing Xin <步步惊心> – the popular 2011 television series adapted from Tong Hua’s novel of the same name – The Cage of Love is directed by Ng Kam Yuen (吳錦源), one of the co-directors of Bu Bu Jing Xin.

The Cage of Love centers on a love story between Jiang Yu (Hawick Lau 劉愷威), a dyeing factory tycoon, and Wu Caihong (Zheng Shuang 郑爽), the daughter of Jiang Yu’s nemesis. Caihong’s father mysteriously passes away, and Jiang Yu is suspected to be the cause of his death. Searching for the truth, Jiang Yu and Caihong betray each other’s trust. Though hurting each other in the process, they are unwilling to give up on each other. Meanwhile, Zhou Shaotian (Li Dongxue 李东学), Caihong’s knight in armor, remains supportive of Caihong. He tells her his only dream is to see Ciahong find her happiness.

Many of Tong Hua’s works have enjoyed critical acclaim, and its television adaptations, notablyBu Bu Jing Xin, achieved international popularity. With the support of the Bu Bu Jing Xin team, the high production values of The Cage of Love have also become a selling point for the series. The vivid outfits in the series are another marketing point, and the production teams have stated that they hope to use the costumes as a tool to reflect character development.

The Cage of Love is still in production and is slated for 40 episodes. Zhang Zhixi (张芷溪), Liu Yuxin (刘雨欣), Kathy Chow (周海媚), and Li Lingyu (李玲玉) also star.

  1. I am not familiar with 郑爽, but please 劉愷威 again? The guy may have the appearance, but his level of acting is just not up to par. For the debut of 桐华 in the entertainment industry, I was expecting a much more capable male lead to match up to the fantastic plots, but I guess I will just have to wait and see

  2. I think Hawick acting is not that bad, he just pick some bad series in the last couple of years. Hopefully his new series coming are better then the last two years.

  3. hawick’s acting is not that great. sometimes hes good, sometimes hes bad lol
he always play similar roles. so bored of them

  4. Hawick is looking scarier and scarier with his plastic face….shudder!

  5. don’t like the costumes or hair. might look pretty but not authentic. also, don’t know why but i don’t like watching hk celebs lead in mainland productions, even if they’re my favourites. just harder to get into.

  6. I like his dad in all the series but never like to watch Hawick movie. He does not have the charisma for me to finish watching one episode. No offense to anyone it is just my opinion!

    1. Same here. I think Hawick can act but he cannot bring out the magic in any normal character when compared to a great actor, like his dad Lau Dan who has great charisma.

However, he will do well with a well written character like as in SWAK.

  7. Hawick didn’t make it in Hong Kong for a long time. He only was 3/4 liner. Why is he so popular in China?

    1. It’s all because of his wife’s (Yang Mi) connections.

      1. He was popular before Yang Mi. How do you think he has so much Molla to buy Yang Mi so many things lol! Seal with a Kiss is one of his most popular series.

      2. He is popular before he met his wife Yang Mi. I guess he have lots of luck and many fan girls

    2. he was lucky to land in a role like sealed with the kiss

      1. Thank you for pointing out the role in Sealed with a kiss. He was playing so well with the role and the story is so well written but the girl acting is so bland and the ending is horrible. I thought with all the stuff they should be together. Also the ending is a bit rush
