Wong Cho Lam Hopes His Series Will Continue to Dominate Ratings

Aired in February, Gilded Chopsticks <食為奴> maintains the highest average ratings in TVB dramas this year to-date. Including online views, the drama averaged over 30 ratings points, which is a feat considering the recent decline in TVB viewership.  To commemorate Gilded Chopsticks’ good results, TVB Chairman Norman Leung (梁乃鵬) treated the cast and crew to a celebration banquet.

Wong Cho Lam Hopes to Maintain High Ratings

Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍), Joey Meng (萬綺雯), Ben Wong (黃智賢), and Nancy Wu (胡定欣) were among the 100 guests at the banquet. Since Gilded Chopsticks was well-liked by audiences, Cho Lam was asked if there are plans to film a sequel. “Let’s film Inbound Troubles 2 <老表,你好Hea!> first!” The followup to the 2013 sleeper hit will be filmed and broadcast later this year. Cho Lam has high hopes for Inbound Troubles 2, in which he reprises his role as scriptwriter. He said, “I hope [my dramas] will take up the first and second places in viewership ratings!”

With his dramas becoming favorites among viewers, Cho Lam has emerged as one of TVB’s more successful leading men. Prompted that he may have a chance in winning TV King at the TVB Anniversary Awards, Cho Lam replied, “I’m not handsome and my acting is exaggerated. It won’t be my turn. My biggest wish is to win Best Drama and everyone is happy!”

Joey Meng Uncertain About ATV’s Plight

At the celebration banquet, Joey Meng was bombarded with questions about her former employer, ATV, which reportedly has filed for liquidation of its assets. In recent years, ATV has been unable to turn around its poor financial performance and abysmal viewership ratings, which often hovered around one point.

It appeared that Joey has not been in close touch with former ATV colleagues since last working with the station four years ago, as she is not clear on ATV’s financial status. “As there are many reasons behind the situation, I will not comment on it.” She hopes the best for her former colleagues, and that they will not be out of work.

  1. “Cho Lam has emerged as one of TVB’s more successful leading men. ”

Oh please no!! Credit NOT to him!

    1. I feel the same way. Ben Wong and the rest of the major cast is also a reason the series did well, along with the writers. I hope TVB don’t think it only did well because of WCL.
It does a disservice to everyone else who worked hard. WCL just did his usual exaggerated comedian routine… again.
Hope he learns some new tricks cause that won’t stay popular forever.

  2. I still don’t get why this drama was a success, it had no storyline. IMO it was pretty dumb (cheap humor) and boring.

    1. Everyone has different tastes.. Its like how I am probably the only one that didnt enjoy The Hippocratic Crush. Doesnt mean its a bad drama, it just doesnt appeal to specific viewers.

    2. It shows how HK audience have a poor taste in tv dramas. They always have been picky on their TV series, but they have definitely lowered their bars so low, that they love idiotic dramas(not saying that Gilded Chopsticks is an idiotic drama)

  3. I hope Ben Wong or Ruco win the Best Actor.

People that has no humor and always negative will not like this series. This series is dam funny. Hahaha

    1. Ben Wong is a great actor, but not a Best actor quality

  4. “I’m not handsome and my acting is exaggerated. It won’t be my turn. My biggest wish is to win Best Drama and everyone is happy!”

    welp at least he knows.
He’s majority favorite though (mines as well). I don’t find him too funny, but he’s definitely pretty witty & clever.

  5. I’m more interested in ATV’s “adventures”. Is there any hope of HKTV stepping in and what is happening to the station’s future?

Jayne, any chance of an editorial on what’s going on over there?

    1. @Panzer: Since you seem to be one of the few on this site who is still interested in the fate of HKTV and ATV, you may want to consider checking out SCMP’s website, since they’re pretty good about updating the latest news about HK’s television industry….plus it’s all in English, so no translation necessary… 🙂

In any case, here’s a link to the 2 most recent articles from SCMP that talk about the ATV issue mentioned above and also HKTV / Ricky Wong’s latest ‘direction’…should give you some idea about what has been going on with both stations as of late: http://llsmusings.blogspot.com/2014/04/news-articles-atvs-financial-issues.html

      1. You have to admire Ricky Wong for his indefatigable spirit. This guy never give up and keep on thinking of new ideas to salvage the situation.

      2. he have to,there is no way back now because he droped too much money on this project,he will win or die with hktv.

  6. GOOD LUCK TO WONG CHO LAM!!!!!! and if he can get a chance to win the tv king at tvb anniversary awards in 2014 this year>>>>>>>.<
