Jackson Wang Wants to Star in a TVB Drama

Hong Kong native Jackson Wang (王嘉爾), a member of the K-pop group GOT7, returned to the motherland to attend the Wine & Dine Festival event hosted by Hong Kong Discovery. After going through each tent and trying out all the different foods and wines from around the world, he expressed that he misses Hong Kong’s dai pai dong food the most.

The 24-year-old idol star recently signed a contract with the China-based production company Star Shine Culture, which has also managed stars such as Jolin Tsai (蔡依林), JJ Lin (林俊傑), and Stefanie Sun (孫燕姿). Though he expressed a collaboration would be unlikely, he does hope for the opportunity to work with his seniors someday.

In regard to his future with Star Shine Culture, Jackson said he would like to release a Cantonese song. He also expressed his desire to star in a TVB drama, saying, “I grew up watching TVB dramas, so I really hope for a chance to star in one of their 8:30 pm dramas, even if it’s only a small role!”

    1. @anon It’s a strategic move for Jackson to have wider reach in Hong Kong and other countries where TVB dramas are popular. He’s already pretty well known in Mainland China after hosting several variety programs, but his fame in HK is relatively lower. While TVB dramas have declined in quality, if Jackson chooses his role carefully, he’ll make a deeper impression on HK drama viewers.

Ah, producer Miu Siu Ching may be listening and cast Jackson in the ever-growing ensemble cast of “Forensic Heroes IV”. 🙂

If I were him, I wouldn’t waste my time in HK competing over an audience of 7 million in which a majority don’t even watch TVB anymore.

He already has an audience in China and Korea, it’s better to pursue those markets instead. He will make far more money and the opportunities will be way more than whatever he can get out of in HK.

  1. Jackson is super talented, besides him being strategic he is a native born in Hong Kong. If you grew up there and watched TVB as a kid of course you feel a sense of belonging and wanting to leave a mark there too. He is super hardworking and loves his family, so no doubt he loves his birth place. His instagram account has 852 on it denoting he is from HK so he is a proud HK born. Besides TVB is not just in HK, most places where there are Cantonese people have access to TVB programs so the audience reach is not limited to HK. I will vouch for him whether or not he does a good job at TVB (if he ever makes any appearances). As per Sammi Cheng whom he collaborated with earlier this year Cantonese songs are dying and am sure that goes for Cantonese dramas, so if Jackson can help reignite that bravo to him. Let the kid enjoy his fame and reap in the rewards of his hard work. I never heard of anyone one single celebrity able to cause a drop in TVB stock

Many overseas Chinese don’t watch TVB anymore (speaking of the older generations here), their declining viewership is affected GLOBALLY – not just in HK. Look no further then to Malaysia, traditionally TVB’s second home, even people there don’t give a crap about TVB anymore and has turned to Korean and Mainland entertainment. One of the reasons why TVB made the decision to cancel all live events there this year moving forward.

From a personal standpoint, my mom that watched TVB all of her life has stopped watching for 3 years now. She gets her entertainment fix via. Cantonese-dubbed shows from the Mainland and Korea.

“I never heard of anyone one single celebrity able to cause a drop in TVB stock”

      Jackson’s PERSONAL stock may drop.

  2. @anon, you just answered your own question and contradicted yourself. If no one cares about TVB why would that person’s stock drop?!!! Anyway main point is Jackson is doing TVB to likely fulfull his childhood dream being on TV in his motherland and using his native language, on channels he grew up with. He doesn’t need HK to boost any popularity! The dude already won 2018 Teen Choice Awards in US as ” The Next Big Thing” amongst various other awards around the world.

“If no one cares about TVB why would that person’s stock drop?!”

No I did not contradict myself. He started his career in Korea so he rightfully has fans in mainland China and South KOREA. His stock will drop with existing fans IF he joins TVB.. cause despite what you think.. Current TVB entertainment has little appeal with the young and the old all the while trying to garner new fans in an industry (TVB) that few care about in and beyond Hong Kong anymore.
