Selena Lee Signs with American Talent Agency

Leaving TVB after 15 years with the station, Selena Lee (李施嬅) signed with American talent agency, Authentic – the same company that actress Brie Larson is currently under.

Selena explained that perhaps with filming in the United States, she will eventually have a chance one day to enter the Hollywood scene. Despite signing with a new agency, Selena will still be working in Asia and accepting jobs there by herself. The actress is currently in the middle of re-filming scenes for Forensic Heroes IV <法證先鋒IV>.

A staple in TVB dramas for years, Selena finally began gaining international attention after winning the Best Actress award in both the European Cinematography Awards and Los Angeles Film Awards for her short film, Once More. Selena was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress title at the 2019 Canadian Screen Awards for her Canadian-Crime drama, Blood and Water <血與水>.

  1. I highly doubt Selena will get any significant roles in Hollywood given her weak range of acting. She’s an one dimensional actress.

    1. She’s not great but better than others. Probably on par with or better than fala, what she used to be.

      1. Even one minor role in Hollywood bis still higher than a lead role with tvb

    2. @anon I respectfully disagree. She’s one of the better actresses to come out of TVB and I think she’ll be able to at least contend for roles with the Asian invasion happening in Hollywood right now.

I’m also interested to see what comes out of Fala’s opportunities considering she wasn’t great in TVB.

In case you don’t already know. Fala landed a major role in a HBO series.

In that regard, Fala is already better than Selena and everybody else at TVB.

I think Selena only plays decently in one type of role, being a one dimensional actress doesn’t make you a good actress.

Furthermore, it seriously isn’t difficult to be “one of the better actresses coming out of TVB” these days considering that TVB has little to no talent remaining.

      2. @anon I did know about Fala’s HBO opportunity. Good for her, but her acting pre-Juilliard was too one dimensional so I’m interested in if she has improved or not. Sure, Juilliard has a good reputation, but we have not yet seen Fala implementing what she has learned to know if she has gotten better.

Also, Selena should’ve broken out a long time ago if TVB wasn’t playing favourites. If you’ve paid attention to her acting throughout the years, you’d know that she’s not one a dimensional actress.

It’s fine that you don’t like her, but I don’t think it’s fair to write her off based on her lack of acting qualifications. Her and Fala can exist in their own lanes.

Fala Chen won a HK short film award last year. She self-directed and acted in it too.

I’ve watched Selena for years. She’s been in many different roles, but she only excels in one type of role hence the one-dimensional acting opinion, so let’s agree to disagree.

I am not even a Fala Chen fan, but considering that she’s won a HK short film award, and landed a HBO role in Hollywood. It’s unfair to compare Selena to Fala and say that she’s on her level (acting-wise) when Fala has accomplished more than Selena in both academics and acting achievements.

One can argue that Selena may be a better actress than Fala pre-Julliard, but definitely not in the last few years EVEN if we have not seen any of Fala’s work, but Hollywood producers and directors have, and if they think she qualifies, as an audience, who are we to disqualify their judgement? They know better than most of us.

      4. @hazel I agree. And to be honest, I wouldn’t read too much into Fala’s HBO role because it’s actually not a major role (I should know, as I read the book the series is based on). The biggest positive with Fala’s casting is that she is playing a non-Asian character, unlike many of the big name Asian actresses in Hollywood productions who are typically cast as the token Asian or in some type of stereotypical role. I think as long as Selena doesn’t accept roles that typecast her as Asian, she has as good a chance as Fala does at succeeding in Hollywood.

  2. Selena is definitely a way better actress than Fala pre-Juilliard, no arguments.
