Raymond Lam and Vincent Wong Face Off For Best Actor
With this year’s TVB Anniversary Awards to be held on January 10, 2021, the fight for Best Actor is largely between Raymond Lam (林峯) and Vincent Wong (王浩信).
A prolific actor, Raymond filmed many classic dramas during his tenure including A Step Into the Past <尋秦記>, Lofty Waters Verdant Bow <雲海玉弓緣>, Survivor’s Law <律政新人王>, Blade Heart <血薦軒轅>, Twin of Brothers <大唐雙龍傳>, and Moonlight Resonance <溏心風暴之家好月圓>. Raymond’s biggest chance at clinching Best Actor was in 2014’s Line Walker <使徒行者>, but he had already left TVB by the time the awards ceremony took place so the award went to Roger Kwok (郭晋安) for Black Heart White Soul <忠奸人>. However, Line Walker is one of TVB’s biggest IP’s in recent years, spawning a franchise of three dramas and a movie. In 2019, fans were excited to learn that Raymond had signed with TVB’s sister company, The Voice, Entertainment and would start filming for Line Walker 3.
Nominated for Best Actor 16 times, Raymond has never won the top TVB award before. Many netizens feel that it is his time, and that TVB owes him the award with his comeback in Line Walker 3.
When Raymond left TVB six years ago, a changing of the guards took place among leading actors at TVB, most notably with the rise of Vincent Wong. Winning Best Actor in 2017’s Legal Mavericks <踩過界> for his role as a blind lawyer, Vincent’s compelling charisma and persuasive acting made him an audience favorite.
Nominated for Best Actor for his performance in Al Cappuccino <反黑路人甲>, Vincent turned in a refreshing performance as a struggling-actor-turned-undercover-triad-boss. Even though he has complex relationship lines with various female characters, each story was handled very well and the ending was surprising. Though he is currently signed with TVB’s sister company, Shaw Brothers, Vincent continues to be in the limelight with the recent broadcast of Legal Mavericks 2.
Already winning Best Actor last year, Kenneth Ma‘s (馬國明) nomination for Line Walker 3 is largely considered to be just in the running this year without a real threat against his competitors. Other Best Actor contenders are Moses Chan (陳豪) and Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) for their roles as assassins in Death by Zero <殺手>, but they have also won the award in previous years.

The stars are lined up for Raymond as it was always TVB intention to give it to him when he signed on for Line Walker 3,
Michael Mui is a dark horse as he also has never won..
Even though Vincent has already win best Actor you never know if he will get it again just like the rest Wayne Lai and Roger Kwok these two men’s has already win a few times. This time if Raymond Lam didn’t win best Actor he’ll probably leave again then maybe a come back again for Line Walker 4? Just wait and see Kenneth Ma been nominated many time also he finally gets the best actor award I’m sure Raymond Lam can get it too.
Isn’t Vincent’s best actor nomination for Legal Mavericks 2? And he’s nominated for my favourite male character for Al Capuccino?
Anyway, I think surely Raymond (if he turns up to the ceremony) will win best actor and Vincent will win my favourite character as he hasn’t won that before either.
It’s very rare anyone wins best actor twice for the same character in a sequel so my bets are on Vincent winning next year.
They would definitely want to keep Raymond happy especially if they want a Line Walker 4 however I personally would love Michael Miu to win for Cheuk Sir!
@ledge also a quick additional point. I still think Kenneth’s role in The Exorcist’s Meter 2.0 was more worthy of a best actor nomination than LW3 but I guess that’s just me…

Yeah everything is lined up for Raymond to win, has to be. I also don’t think there was enough in LM2 for Vincent to win. He was solid but there was a lot of episodes wasted in the beginning.
And yes, exorcist meter 2.0 is a better nomination for Kenneth. He was horrendous in LW3.
@ledge I should also add, best actor for Vincent might be better for next year for his role in DID. He definitely has the potential to knock it out of the park and snag a second BA.

@ledge Happy or not, RL is well deserved to win BA since a long time ago where it’s obvious a cheat in 2012 that Wayne can win over RL in 100% audience votes.
Now TVB’s classic channel keeps promoting Raymond lam’s past drama. The lethal weapons of love and passion so nice.
RL is gifted and versatile in modern/ancient dramas and singing.

@seriously Totally agree. Raymond was so, so good in LW1 but he got screwed by not staying at TVB. Company politics really sucks. Cold hearted execs never consider how hurtful they are by doing that to their artists!
The awards will always be relevant within the confines of TVB but really does not carry any weight anywhere else. As to who will win? Well, if the likes of Joe Ma can win the Best Actor award, then Raymond Lam should win hands down due to his popularity.

These awards are meaningless outside of tvb.
I will support Vincent as he is a versatile character. However it’s obvious Raymond will win. TVB need to keep him to act in LW4. TVB actor is a renewal contract or award for best acting

Not sure what religion you believe in but in my world there is no such thing as destiny and fate.
Wonder if Raymond would even display these and his JSG awards, or he just keeps it in a box somewhere. They’re pretty meaningless awards these days.
@theyenman Hopefully, RL is there on Jan 10. If he is not there pretty sure BA is with someone else already. For example, Anthony wong won’t attend the award ceremony to be humiliated if he won’t get the BA.
