“Ruse of Engagement” Struggles With Complaints and Low Ratings

Although TVB saw promising viewership figures during the first quarter of 2014, its current line-up has been unable to maintain the momentum. The station’s prime-time series achieved lackluster results during the first week of April, and received numerous complaints over its contents.

Despite criticism over the declining quality of its productions, TVB entered 2014 with rather favorable results. Many of its series managed to break 30 points average, especially during their final weeks. The company’s last three completed prime-time series, Outbound Love <單戀雙城>, Gilded Chopsticks <食為奴>, and Storm in a Cocoon <守業者>, have all debuted with at least a 26 point average. The ratings rose throughout their broadcasts, peaking as high as 35 points during their series finales.

Unfortunately, TVB’s current prime time programming seems unable to maintain the high ratings streak. Even though it was once a highly anticipated series, Ruse of Engagement <叛逃> is now seeing a consistent decline in ratings. Averaging 27 points during its premiere week, the numbers dropped to 26 the following week, and then again to 25 points. The Office of Communications Authority received 47 viewer complaints regarding the show last week; many are concerned that the profanity and violence set bad examples for younger viewers.

Swipe Tap Love <愛我請留言> also saw modest results, beginning its run with a relatively low 24 points. Although a more light-hearted series, viewers also found it to be a negative influence on children and complained about a child’s bathing scene. TVB and the Communications Authority also received reports over obvious product placements, boring plot, and dissatisfaction over Priscilla Wong’s (黃翠如) performance.

  1. don’t know what they’re talking about. this drama is awesome. keep up with the good work.

    1. Agree the story line awesome and the actors are awesome

    2. Ya, is true. they really STUPID to complain.
Is a great series. Honestly, Ruse of Engagement is good and I’m not the true fan of the actors / actress or TVB staff, but i like their creativity. Is an advance move for Hong Kong Series. Every night me and my family chase this series and we all enjoy it.
Really don’t know why they complain so much. TVB should keep airing more series like this. Abandon these nonsenses. Since u said is bad for younger gen. then just keep your younger gen away from Facebook / YouTube / movie / Hollywood’s series also internet. Can u filter all? Respect their hard work then.

    3. Yes, it is a great drama, full of suspense and fast moving scenes.

HK audience are so funny, can’t differentiate what is a good drama from bad.

  2. What? Ratings is 27 only? But 27 is good enough for now. So far Ruse Of Engagement is full speed ahead. Am enjoying the drama and the mystery but scenes of Jessica and Alfred is pulling down the pace. This is not to everyone’s taste. It can be quite violent and not many will enjoy. But frankly right now Ruse Of Engagement is the best thing on TV. The suspense is killing me. Fantastic run of 8 or 9 episodes thus far.

I am sure the last few episodes will push the rating higher.

As for profanity, errr what profanity?

Violence I understand but it is necessary. It is realistic.

    1. As for Swipe Tap Love, Priscilla wong is doing just fine.

      1. “complained about a child’s bathing scene”

I thought those scenes were cute unless some weirdo gets aroused by a kid’s bathing scene. Look, stupid complaints. It is an innocent scene. Leave it at that!

      2. ““Ruse of Engagement” Struggle With Complaints and Low Ratings”

        Let’s see… 47 complaints.. and that is a struggle? 27 points is a struggle?

        I don’t get it.

      3. Fun,
ROE had 27 points in first week, but has declined to 25 points in the third week which shows declining viewership. Breaking 30 points is regarded as ideal.

      4. I wonder do TVB ever differentiate between mature viewers and young adult viewers where it is the latter that is the ideal demographic? Because the teenage boys I speak to love ROE but can’t understand Outbound Love.

      5. Teenage boys do not represent everyone who fits in those descriptions.

    2. Funn,
It’s mild profanity, such as PK, which is not often found in TVB’s family dramas. The violence may be turning off the ratings, as parents may not let little kids watch the show.

      1. Never noticed at all. Yes the violence is well violent but I do think youngsters as in teenagers and young adults will enjoy this series. The violence is suitably shocking which makes ROE a little different.

      2. Can’t satisfy all viewers if no action the drama becomes boring, too much action becomes violent, comedies becomes meaningless. I feel bad for the producers

    3. Why care about those ratings? A lot of audience watch series online. Does average 27 include online audience? If not then those numbers are just worthless. ROE is a great series and I enjoy every moment of it, actually can’t wait for the next episode.

      1. valid points. most people use online sources (esp azdrama, tvbdo

      2. Drama online websites disappear as soon as they are announced!!!

  3. Aimee and Ron ruined the series, especially in the last episode. It was 30 min of her crying. They cut out a lot of Yoyo screen time.

    1. Funny because yoyo still has loads of screentime.

      1. because when she filmed roe she was still part of tvb. tvb didnt touch this drama and left in their warehouse untouched.

    2. I agree. Ron and Aimee’s acting leaves something to be desired. I wouldn’t mind if their scenes were edited out.

      1. Ron and Aimee are fine simply u don’t like them

  4. I don’t know about you but I thought that scene in the safe house was very well directed. Suspenseful all the way and Ruco looked like a complete bad ass.

    1. Really?? I am guessing they had a good director for this series or at least that scene.

    2. I love Ruco in the action scenes. ROE is a great series. If all 25 episodes are available I will watch them all in 2 days. I just finished episode 17 and feel so addicted to it.

  5. Really hard to grasp the taste of HK audience these days. All they do is complain complain complain. This drama is awesome and every episode ends with a cliff hanger. How many series can boast of this these days? The plot keeps you guessing and the action and explosion scenes are very well choreographed and realistic (aside from that leap betw buildings which was highly exaggerated of cos). This is first-rate entertainment and people are not watching???

    1. @buzz
common nature for non-performing people to complain.

    2. Yea the ratings nowadays is hard to believe. Maybe the few episodes from 5-10 drag it down a bit, where the story focused on Yoyo and Papa. Now ROL is so full of excitement.

      1. thats because yoyos papa and yoyo is crucial parts. it is through yoyos help that ruco be a successful undercover cop

      2. It’s understandable for week 2’s rating to dip slightly as people are still trying to see if they like the drama. But I’d expected week 3’s ratings to go up as that’s where the story reaches its climax with the execution of Carson. Also eps 11 to 14 were nail biting, full of suspense. So, I wonder why some of the people who were watching in week 2 didn’t tune in (hence ratings in week 3 dipped)? Also Yoyo and papa are crucial to the development of the story. I didn’t find their parts boring at all. The boring part was Alfred romancing Jessica.

      3. buzz, I don’t think rating will get any higher since HK viewer are so unique. I will not have much confidence with HK ratings

      4. That because the rating system is weird. TVB and Nielsen needs to survey more than 1,000 audience. At least 5,000 to get more accurate on tv, iptv, cable and online viewership.

  6. I am enjoying Ruse of Engagement a lot more than I enjoyed Storm in a Cocoon. I don’t understand why viewers would complain about it. As for Swipe Tap Love, it’s not spectacular but acceptable for just easy viewing – Priscilla Wong really is okay.

  7. I don’t get why people complained about the child bathing scene in Swipe. It”s not like the child ran around naked or was siting in clear water. She was covered in bubbles so as not to reveal anything for goodness sake! I thought that conversation btwn Priscilla and the child was adorable!

  8. At first, I thought Swipe Tap love was going to be terrible… but after I got through the first two episodes and realised it was all about the ‘journey’ these people’s lives make; seems to be alright.
I quite like Priscilla Wong; I think she has a special ‘quality’… she may not be the prettiest, but she’s warm and has a great smile. Somewhat reminds me a little of the ‘special quality’ in a actress like Jessica Hsuan. Obviously, she has a while to go; but she seems to be making great progress!

As for the child actress – Celine Yeung – I think she’s absolutely adorable. (And soooo smart! she’s only 5 and knows how to deliver lines and facial expressions… ) I found the scenes between Pris Wong and Celine have great (and cute) chemistry.

    1. If Priscilla “has a while to go” in acting as you said, then TVB should not let her to be a lead. HK viewers tend to think the leads must be very talented and professional so that they complain about Priscilla’s acting are understandable.

      1. do you live in hk? if not, how would anyone know what do netizens in hk want to see?

  9. What? Are they serious? I haven’t enjoy a TVB series for quite some time and I’m enjoying Russ of Engagement. The other one not so much. They should put “Viewer Discretion is Advised”

    1. They do, its rated PG. Just don’t let kids watching pass 9:30pm show.

  10. I actually prefer seeing Ron in Ruse rather than Ruco, but maybe that’s because I thought that Ruco had too much screentime up until eps 14. However, I’m hoping that Ron is not really pining after Aimee and instead trying to become Ruco because he misses his brother so much. My guess is that Aimee might be the mole and her father is the big boss?

    1. “However, I’m hoping that Ron is not really pining after Aimee and instead trying to become Ruco because he misses his brother so much. ”

…not a chance! Hard not to notice his disappointment when he learnt that his brother was still alive. He should be crying tears of joy but instead, all he could think of was how Jessica was once again slipping from his slimy fat fingers.

      1. Ron is better at brother-buddy role than love story.

Maybe some part of Alfred does wish Carson to dieeeeeeeeee

      2. I don’t feel that Ron love his brother. He doesn’t trust him at all, not during Ruco’s first undercover and not now either. And when he thought his brother had died, he did not show much sadness unlike Louise and Aimee, he just thought of pleasing Aimee. and when he shot Derek, I doubt he was thinking of revenging for his brother, more like trying to please Aimee (he called her immediately afterwards to tell her the news).
Unless Ron’s acting was that bad that it gave me the wrong idea.

      3. @star
he couldnt cry b/c he had to back his mom and the girl he likes. but obv. he was hurt to some degree. couldnt let that control over him. if he collapse, there will be nothing to watch

      4. @Ben,
He did display shock and some grief when he saw his brother being shot “live” but when the whole ATF team was searching for Carson at the beach, he seemed more concerned for Jessica. I thought it was most inappropriate for a character who’s just lost his brother under such tragic circumstances.

      5. I agree / star. i didnt feel that ron acted enough.

  11. dude. !!! Swipe Tap Love is awesome! Light hearted but not retarded. and Ruse of Engagement? Ruco and Ron and Yoyo in the SAME drama?? Hot and cool and awesome.

    1. and maybe tvb should just get rid of the whole PG rating and have drams that are like PG 13.

      1. Hong Kong has their own tv rating system, they don’t borrow the USA.

  12. Count me in for loving ROE! I look forward to watching it every day; love Ruco and overall plot.

@AC: I like your prediction of Jessica’s father being the big boss; although I suspect Beauty as the mole instead of Jessica.

    1. Hey guys, you are all wrong I can tell you the mole is the guy who dropped the bag of the scientist on the table with a mini GPS device that’s how the safety house was discovered. You guys are not paying attention to detail haha.

He is the culprit. and been hanging around Jessica and Beauty on the side to know all of ATF operations.

      1. yup, he’s the first guy who touched the briefcase. A nameless character in this drama but he’s shown with the team in ep 17.

      2. A nobody is the mole? Do we know the actor? Because the entire series will be about this mole and I bet it will be someone with a famous name.

Many are betting Wai Sir. I am betting Beauty AND Wai Sir since Alfred said got 2 moles or Beauty alone. The women in ROE can be pretty amazing you know?

Anyway I am in awe of Yip Ting.

      3. Many are betting Wai Sir.

No. you are very wrong. on chinpang’s forum., it was written once.
many think it is jessica and her father

        日嘉是肯定的啦,至於另外一個,會不會就是威sir

      4. seriously i don’t know what to think anymore. But i’m sure they wouldn’t hv shown that touching briefcase scene if it wasn’t impt. And they showed it twice!! No doubt that Jessica’s dad is the big boss of the Scaredy Bird gang but i’m certain Jessica wouldn’t harm Carson intentionally by letting Derek know his whereabouts.

      5. what i mean is that 2 people touched the briefcase!

      6. Like ALfred said, there is more than one mole and I think so too.
I think the guy who put the mini GPS is the small mole… still trying to find out who’s the big mole. On AF forum, many are betting on Negative though I think Negative could be another small mole… while on tvb fun, people are betting on Ngou Sir. I don’t think it’s Ngou Sir though…

      7. Jessica is not the mole because then she won’t have her happy ending with Alfred. But I think she is a double agent.

Her father is I think the boss of the organisation.

We are talking about the traitor in ATF. Her father is not in ATF.

And I bet it isn’t Ngo Sir. Too obvious. So the next person who has the authority to know where the safe house is is Wai Sir.

      8. Can someone specify which episode had the mole touching the briefcase? I am trying very hard to recall the scene but I’m coming up blank. So suspenseful.

      9. Funn: how do u know Jessica will end up with Alfred and not Carson?

      10. It’s a guess and Yoyo’s there. Maybe Jessica will die. Or Yoyo. I don’t see a very very happy ending.

      11. if you have done your research before watching, tvb has been hinting that carson goes with yip ting and alfed and jessica be together. Even in the opening sequence, there is a part where carson and yip ting kiss.

      12. I don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun but that kiss was a lot more than just a kiss.

      13. not really a prediction if it shows in the opening sequence.

      14. That kiss doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a happy ending for Carson and Yip Ting.

      15. Don;t think Carson will die. More like one of the ladies will die.

      16. why must there be a death for one of the characters?

      17. what proof do you have that one of the girls would die?

      18. There is a poll asking who is the mole on tvb fun. They should ask who will die instead, alfred will have the most votes.

      19. lalala, that is a good one! Maybe a separate poll on how he should die!

      20. its been showing after every episode. shows who is paying attention to the preview of next episode and the credits

      21. I was thinking about Wai sir initially but he reported on the transport of the ta (that poison the gang made) and spoiled their plan, which I supposed was quite important.

Ou Sir mentioned 3 people have touched the briefcase, Christopher, Aimee and 1 other guy. Christopher is most likely confirmed to be 1 of the gang member. I have never suspected Aimee but now that I read the comments, it is quite possible and it explains why she hates her father so much.

      22. I was correct guys! The mole is the guy next to Jessica and Beauty shown on episode 18 went into the car.

        Its 黎諾懿 (Lai Yat-sing).

        What did I tell you?

      23. i can understand chris being the mole esp if he’s the boyfriend of Mun (vivian) but i can’t imagine wai sir as mole cos didn’t he risk his life to save the atf people in the first episode (jap terrorist)? also jessica can’t be the mole, she loves carson too much to harm him, even tho i believe that her dad has to be scaredy bird’s chief.

      24. Barry, I wonder if Ruco really has a Weibo? How do we know it is not from someone pretending to be him? Do you guys heard or know about the rumors regarding Ruco click “like” on a comment about Ron’s acting sucks? I really think it is not him or maybe didn’t read the comment & clicked “like”

      25. Funn, thanks for Ruco’s weibo account but wonder if he really has time to read or post comments since he seems like having busy schedules filming

      26. Frankly I am not sure but it would seem likely since the posts are not daily basis and is from a handphone. Could also be from his assistants (if any) with his sanction but fans are saying it is him. All are from handphone and chinese readers say some words are wrong spelling due to auto correct so high probability it is him.

      27. galinkali79, sometimes you can see him online up till the wee hours of the morning on his weibo.

      28. Probably because he was filming till wee hours in the morning. I wonder what time was the latest or earliest for his weibo posts?

      29. No, he’s not filming at the moment till the new kevin cheng drama starts filming around month end or May.

    2. Carson & Yip Ting kissing scene is fake, Papa & ah Man were spying them since Carson pretend to be working for “scare bird” Do you remember Yip Ting told Papa that she is in love with Carson?

      1. Sorry, I think I spoiled the mystery part about Carson & Yip Ting kissing scene. Don’t take it so seriously I am not 100% sure if that is the fact.

      2. i believe Ting treated him as a friend up till that kiss. Cos she went into her room and smiled sweetly while recalling that scene.

    3. I really like Ruco & Yoyo’s kiss scene + the scene where Ruco hugged & kissed Yoyo on the forehead…makes Ruco looks like a baddy but really cute! His moved was very convincing to make Papa & ah Man believe they are couple. If I jump into that scene without watching the fore scene I will really believe they are together!

  13. So it’s an action packed series and they’re complaining about violence? Lol those viewers must be saints. And the profanity is a bad influence for younger viewers? What are they 7? This is obviously not a kids show.

I never understood the complaints…no wonder no one takes it seriously because it’s just ridiculous.

    1. Netizens love to complain the little things ever.

    2. These people should just watch children’s dramas or Barney the dinosaur or something similar. Grow up, people! The real world is even more violent.

    3. thats because hk ppl have nothing to choose, atv is not an option. so all see is tvb.since there are many households with little children, that why they complain.

    4. Because TV time is not the only way to spend time with the family, friends, or love ones.
      Its been ridiculous many years.

  14. Idk why all the complaints. It must be difficult to please the Hong Kong media and netizens. I personally am addicted and cannot wait until the next episode. Ruse of engagement is unpredictable so far and it’s nice to see a good cop drama for once

    1. LOL! hard to please asian audience esp. certain m’asian and hk viewers.

    2. I never care about HK viewer’s ratings…I think HK people had weird taste and mind. A message for all ROE actors/actresses “all of you did a wonderful job, specially Ruco and Ron. Some of HK viewers are blind and nonsense, so forget them…I have seen a lot of support of this series in Mainland China and overseas (I am one of them)”

  15. I’m actually enjoying ROE even though i really don’t like Aimee and I’m not a big fan of Ruco and Ron’s character for some reason. The plot is very interesting though.
I love Swipe Tap Love because for some reason even though Priscilla is rather a new actress, she is very pure to me. I enjoyed her last drama with Raymond as well. I rather watch her than Aimee or Christine.

    1. Priscilla is so average!! I rather watch fala chan

  16. Ron’s character is ruining ROE for me.

It seems like no one finds it wrong and immoral for him to advance on his dead brother’s girlfriend.

Everyone on the show keeps complimenting him for being such a nice guy when all he cares about is bagging Aimee’s character.

Ron’s acting is still so wooden too.

      1. That’s not true, even Aimee out performs him.

He can’t carry emotions at all. He never looked sad at his brother’s death at any point.

      2. He carries only one emotion – anger and more anger. His display of grief is limited to squeezing one tear out and closing his eyes and hanging his head.

      3. no kenneth is more wooden than ron. kenneth fails at griefing scenes.

      4. Ron alright as an actor Ruco is better then Ron dose need to learn how to cry

      5. Ron acting is not that bad just lack of expression in emotion scenes. He never looks sad when Carson died nor happy when he (Carson) found alive…may be the producer wants to purposely deliver a message that Alfred was envy about Jessica & Carson relationship. I really admire Ruco performance in this series…he can convincingly deliver the message with his facial expressions without saying a word. I think if producer ever come up with a drama about a person with mutism, he is definitely the #1 choice.

    1. I finally understand the rumor of giving more screen times to Ruco during the production. Looking at Ron’s performance in ep. 15 and 16. I must say that he cannot carry the 1st main actor and if I am the director, I would say cut cut cut. My god, he is OK in other screens but not in these two eps especially when he acts alone or with Aimee. Why can’t he perform better to show that he is worth to be the 1st main? Noted that he is named first (before Ruco) in the song and the actor/actress list at the end of the series.

      1. I didn;t notice the credit but from the looks of the series, Ruco to me is the first lead, much like Yoyo.

      2. It’s obvious Ruco has more screen time but i think when the drama was filmed Ruco’s rank was below Ron in terms of length of time with TVB and no. of lead roles to-date.

      3. I wonder why argue who is the lead when if you watch the series you will know who is the lead actor and lead actress?

      4. because the subject of whos leading is a touchy issue. conflicting view

  17. Ron was amazing in last nigh ep with his emotion scenes especially when he found out his brother was still alive

    1. Yes he sure was great at showing how sad he was that he didn’t have a chance with Aimee’s character anymore.

      1. agree, if the producer wants to deliver the message of how upset Alfred was to see Carson alive, then he is good!

  18. Love ROE very much. Love Ruco’s performance therein. I admit that I just skip/fast forward the parts without him in Ep. 15 and 16. Glad that Ruco return at the end of Ep.16. I would forget those silly HK ratings of a sample of 800 households (I am not one of those 800 and don’t know how they choose the sample). Just see the hit rates in Mainland China’s websites – it’s almost 0.2 billion in Yoku and ranked No. 2 after The Wife’s Secret. I was told that the hit rates of those series produced by Mainland such as The Wife’s Secret are for 3 eps while the hit rates of ROE is for one single ep. In other words, if you count the hit rates by single ep. ROE ranks No. 1. May the production team (including the actors/actresses) of ROE keep up the good jobs.

    1. Agree…low rating in HK does not mean anything, now a day viewers can choose to watch online and I am one if them. IMO 40+ complaints is nothing compare to the population in HK. It just shows how immature they are. They should tune in to those Disney channels all day long or live in a farm with no TV and radio hahaha

    2. ROE is now no.1 in Yoku and has over 0.2 billion hitting points. Ruco gained 20,000 fans in his weibo in 3 days last week. The HK tv viewers are ageing and their tastes are conservative. Maybe the 800 household samples are mainly the elderly.

      1. “The HK tv viewers are ageing and their tastes are conservative. Maybe the 800 household samples are mainly the elderly.”

The same “elderlies” who lived through TVB’s golden age and knew how to appreciate the likes of Looking Back In Anger or The Greed of Man? Those dramas weren’t exactly mellow stuff for TV either, so I can’t see how the older audience can be blamed for being too conservative (in regards to violence).

      2. I suppose tolerance and taste changes as you age, I can understand the low ratings amongst these households BUT like I said earlier, TVB never really lok at the targeted demographics do they?

      3. “TVB never really lok at the targeted demographics do they?”

Well, well, well. If only TVB would put down their pride and LISTEN to people who tell them where they’ve gone wrong.

      4. Of course their taste can change. It’s just that many of the elderly I’ve seen (I’m outside HK btw) tend to complain about the dip in quality rather than the indulgence in violence. It’s not as if they got a bit too soft in their old age and need coddling now. Many would simply rewatch the old classics (even if it’s crappy quality on VHS/VCDs) or put a drama on as “background noise”. I do the same, to be honest…

      5. like I said average 26-27 are just viewers that are computer dummies or no access to computers (refer to older folks)and majority of the viewers are watching it online!

      6. Well if ROE is popular on Yoku but has low ratings in HK, one might think this series is not pandered towards an HK family demographic… Just because Yoku is used by a lot of people, it doesn’t mean there isn’t selective bias

Personally I feel ROE is driven by action scenes (plus lots of gun and explosions) and plot devices (yes, as someone pointed out, it uses cliff hangers at the end of almost every episode)

Whereas Storm in a Cocoon was more focused on the chemistry between the characters. Personally I liked Storm more, but I can see why someone with a shorter attention span would like ROE more.

      7. Aimee and Ruco not popular as Tavia and Steven is. both tavia and steven were part of tvb very early on, have a bigger fan base

      8. “but I can see why someone with a shorter attention span would like ROE more”

I don;t see how ROE appeals to those with shorter attention span. The plot is in itself requires attention for those little clues. I feel the ratings differ with SIAC simply because SIAC is more geared towards family viewings from young to old plus Steven Ma and Tavia both are attractions. ROE is geared towards younger generation hence the higher viewership in internet streaming. Fans in HK should and must tune in on TV just to push the ratings up. Viewing online… is such a feature available from TVB legally? If not the numbers don’t matter at all.

      9. Plus Aimee is a problem. Promo should be geared more towards a fairer distribution of promo to the actresses namely Yoyo because Aimee is not the leading lady. I also pity her in a way because low ratings seemed to be blamed on Aimee when the blame lies with the viewers who prefer online viewing. However I do not see how 20 plus numbers is a bad number even if 30 is ideal. After all most series achieve higher ratings towards the end and ROE is nowhere nearing its end, yet.

      10. your the only one who views Aimee as a problem. Of course tvb wont invite yoyo. shes with hktv, tvbs rival.

      11. Am I?

And that is why TVB is shooting itself. The promo itself is inaccurate.

      12. ROE is geared towards younger generation hence the higher viewership in internet streaming. Fans in HK should and must tune in on TV just to push the ratings up. Viewing online… is such a feature available from TVB legally?

Do you work for TVB? if not, why are you stating it like it is a fact? Do you live in HK? if not, why are you telling HK fans what to do? you are so outdated. TVB posts online episodes on their webbie and is available for a certain period of time.

      13. why are you so surprised that the promo clip was inaccurate? just look at coffee cat mama and the promo clips.

      14. those who see the drama online via mytv on tvb webpage is counted within the ratings. as 4 youku, probs not.

      15. @Funn: With regard to your question “Fans in HK should and must tune in on TV just to push the ratings up. Viewing online… is such a feature available from TVB legally?”

The answer is: YES. HK audiences have 2 ways to view online — either via MyTV (which is free) or via GOTV (which is subscription based). Actually, MyTV is a popular method for those in HK to watch TVB’s current series, as most of the audiences don’t have time to sit at home and wait for the episodes to come on TV (many of them lead busy lives just like the rest of us)…that’s why we constantly hear about certain series having alot of ‘hits’ on MyTV…after all, why should they plan their lives a television schedule when they can just hop on MyTV anytime they want and watch the episodes they missed?

      16. @Funn “Fans in HK should and must tune in on TV just to push the ratings up.”

If only every view feels as strongly about the ratings as you are.

    3. Funn,
I do tune in on TV for this series at 9:30 p.m. as I want to watch it first-hand. If I watch online, I can only view the episode at 11:30 pm from mytv (more than 2 hours later). I just can’t wait since I really love Ruco’s acting/performance very much. Regrettably, even I tune in on TV, I cannot push the ratings up because I am not one of the 800 household 🙁

      1. Thanks for all the info. So each night the original broadcast will be on TV? Then 2 hours later will be available online?

I think it must be easier to track online viewing ratings than just 800 households!

By the way I love his performance too. I hope this series ends well and ends big because if it is so, to me it is instant classic (except for the first 6 episodes). I am still reeling over the torture scenes.

  19. Same here.

I enjoyed the series so far.

    Cannot understand the low ratings.

    1. I think people rather watch online…I personally will choose to watch online because do not want to miss a single moment of it. I am not from HK so don’t know if the ratings include online viewers:p

  20. I am enjoying this series so far and find it quite amusing when HK viewers complain about all these little things…I still remember how people complained “On Call 36 2” for showing blood. But since it is a medical drama, I really don’t know what they are trying to expect? Purple Blood? Green blood?

    1. Ratings do not always or necessarily dictate if a series is good or not.

      1. Agree with you. The most important point is we are enjoying, since not every drama can satisfy all viewers there are always criticisms. 100% support ROE specially Ruco’s acting which never disappoint his fans. Your effort will be well recognized. I am a crazy fan of Ruco from California.

      2. ratings are useful to advertisiers. lets them kno when people tune in to tvb the most

  21. Episode 18 – I have so much dread for Carson, so much hate for Ngo Sir but most hate for Alfred!

    1. I feel the same for Ruco on episode 18 + I am a big fan of Ruco, hope Jessica can get him out of that trap. in the other hand, I am so happy that ROE has so many supporters overseas & mainland as I never care about HK viewers since they are totally out of date (too preservative)

      1. how do you know overseas audience is enjoying this series, esp in westernized nations?

are they calculated within ratings? probs not. youku videos are blocked. so views must be china or in that region.

      2. everything you need to know is on the internet…all you need is a computer and internet unless you are a computer dummie

      3. by the way I am in from the California and have friend in China so not hard to know how ROE is doing mainland & overseas

      4. california does not represent all of westernized nations. im talking about countries in europe, australia, canada,

      5. Anony, you have to find out yourself. I don’t really care about western nations ratings, if anyone interested in ROE there are plenty of sources available online. Unless they have limited access and I do believe but not certain that in Western Nations TVB series are popular (not interested wasting my time to do the research for the whole entire world)The target should be Asia & US only. When I mentioned overseas only referred to US.

      6. If you are only writing about us, how do you know the other 49 states is enjoying the series? and their is more mandarin speakers than cantonese speakers.

      7. Anonymous, you don’t understand or you playing dumb…didn’t I say “I don’t care other nations & states since HK series are watch mostly by Asia & US audiences” if they are not enjoying just simply avoid the series. No one pull a gun on you/their head(s) to watch the series no matter you/they enjoy it or not. I found this series very popular in Mainland & the US according to the number of viewers recorded. (Don’t ask me to proof it cuz you should be able to find it through many source on the internet)

      8. Anonymous, I don’t know what you mean by pointing out “there are more Mandarin speaker than Cantonese” seems like you don’t know that all TVB series are available in Mandarin.

      9. i am a mandarin speaker and living in us. which channels have tvb series dubbed in mandarin?

      10. Jules, yes you are right TV do not show the Mandarin version only online. Do you need the sources? I missed read your comment.

    2. I think the obvious thing were fake and the kind ones can’t be trusted! cant wait to know who are the liers

      1. the sources I have actually is available in Mandarin. Are you from US?

    3. I never say the series is available on TV…even you get the Jade World package from DirectTV there is a waiting period of 10 months to a year for it release

  22. This is a great series and I enjoy it tremendously. Unfortunately, I do not live in HK and I can only follow closely over the internet. Ruco is GREAT as usual.

    1. Me neither but will fully support this awesome series online. I hate to follow one episode a day and I hardly does that, only ROE give me the urge to watch it (waiting for the next day feels like a punishment) I am so desperate about tomorrow’s episode…I need help!!!

  23. Does anyone know where I can find the start of every episode of this series? Meaning the opening scene with only the music?

    Thanks.

    1. maybe type the name in youku or something. they usually have it. Or you could download and turn it into mov file and then rip it from there.

    2. Hey Funn, it does opening with music only. The theme song is at the end of ecah episode. It is a style of many Amy’s series

      1. Norika, I am looking for the opening. I am not interested in the themesong itself. I was hoping there would be one ripped opening somewhere.

      2. on youtube, search the channels joyrich005, lyrics seasons , trumblexx. they may have uploaded it

  24. You know who’s complaining and hating on TVB. HKTV!!!

    1. Yeah…may be those complaints were from HKTV and the low ratings could be due to other facts like; people prefer to watch action packed dramas online since they can watch every single scene and can fast forward or backwards.

  25. Ron vs Eddie and both going hot headed was awesome love hot headed cops

  26. I am falling for Ruco again for his amazing performance in ROE as Carson. I can feel his emotions, his eyes can act (good job Ruco) He is the only actor currently in TVB that can emotionally drive me into his role.(I had laughed, cried, worried, surprised, etc…in this drama) Hope you guys know what I mean.

    1. wasnt that influential for me. his acting is avg. nothing unexpected, nothing surprising. a typical tvb drama

      1. Water, everyone has their own perspective & I am one of the Ruco’s fans that admire his acting and not his look. He is not handsome like some of his fans claimed but he is very talented and I admit that certain angles he does look hot! If we all have the same point of view then you will see the same actor/actress over & over again…I just hope fans do not crossover and attacked others artists, it will affect your idol reputation.

      2. Water, just to clarify the last paragraph has nothing to do with you it is just a courtesy advise for other fans that are fighting who is the male lead, who has more screen time, etc…)

    2. Agree absolutely. Ruco is the one and the only one actor in TVB that can attract me to watch the series that he takes part. I have never ever been in the past attracted by an actor like Ruco. Love him very much since Reality Check. Very influential and those micro-expressions are awesome to me. When I repeatedly watching, I discover more and more.

      1. yup, he’s the only one who has me repeating his scenes over many times to catch his superb subtle facial expressions which speak a lot more than the words coming out of his mouth. Sometimes, he doesn’t even need to speak but you get the message he’s trying to convey through his eyes.

      2. Mentioning about the eyes, I noticed that when Ron called him to inform him that Ou sir is transferring him to ATF, Ruco’s eyes turned red at once. Quite amazing

      3. oh…I thought it was just me noticing Ruco’s eyes can act. Also did you guys realized that his body can act too? The scenes where he was tortured by the bad guys & after by Ou Sir with electrifiers, it looks like real.

    3. Ruco is AVERAGE. Not counting his good looks.. just PLAIN average. TVB is just pushing him up to be #1 siu sangs

      1. I’m curious, who do you think can do a better job than ruco as carson?

      2. Larry, we all have different perspective just like the one you admired may not be the same to others. Same for Ron his acting is average but his fans see him as a great actor. That’s why there is no standards who is better than who.

      3. Star, before watching the series I can tell you a couple of names but after watching it and since Ruco is doing such a great job I can’t even come up with one name.

      4. Well, they need a young actor in Twenties. Ruco is not 20. it doesnt matter.

But Ruco… he is AVERAGE throughout his TVB career, even promote to first line lead actor.

      5. @larry3, you poor ignorant boy! An actor in his 20s to play Carson? Dont you know that Carson’s character is supposed to be 34! That makes Ruco the perfect age to play Carson. Dont criticise someone for the sake of criticism or worse, act smart when you know nuts. There’s nothing Ruco cant do that a 20plus actor can. If you say his acting is avg, that’s fine cos not everyone knows how to appreciate good acting.

      6. Ruco is probably TVB’s best young actor right now and when I mean young I mean around that age. After all Michael Miu is still playing a guy decade younger. He is stil not A-List yet but should be after ROE. Because he is the best thing in ROE. I mean come on, look at Ron. You think Ron can be Carson? Him Law? That sort?

      7. Carson is supposed to be early 30s, Ruco’s age. Alfred late 20s. Age is well cast. But maybe change Ron to someone else. Or rewrite Alfred because Alfred right now really reminds me of the brother-brother relationship in Brother’s Keeper. Ruco seems to always have untrusting younger brother who has hots for future sister in law.

      8. Or rewrite Alfred because Alfred right now really reminds me of the brother-brother relationship in Brother’s Keeper. Ruco seems to always have untrusting younger brother who has hots for future sister in law.
        ————————————

Put yourself into Carson shoes. if your younger brother keep on accusing you of ridiculous things. would you not act the same way?

      9. ‘Or rewrite Alfred because Alfred right now really reminds me of the brother-brother relationship in Brother’s Keeper. Ruco seems to always have untrusting younger brother who has hots for future sister in law.’

Of course! Both BK and ROE were produced by Amy Wong. a trademark of her productions.

      10. Larry, I don’t think you know what acting is about and this role not many can perform as well as Ruco, it requires a lot of action stunts and Ruco has the perfect fit for this role but of course he is not Jacky Chan so it makes it harder for him and valuable for viewers. An actor also should be able carry out the character in different stages, so far Ruco is able to deliver all type of emotions and his eyes can really act, even you find an actor in his mid 20s may not be able to perform this role convincingly and carry out the character as Ruco.

      11. Buzz, the arrogant commenter. Im stating he is nothing but an AVERAGE actor. AVERAGE actor. He is nothing special all these years.

galinkali79, you need to watch all of Ruco series, even ATV series. His acting is good but never was prime lead role but never was spectacular. AVERAGE.

Look it was two years ago, Ruco was middle 30s that they film. But still you need a cast that is really young to perform these action pack moves which TVB is very deep problem scouting next gen siu sangs, thats my opinion if someone could play Ruco’s role.

I met Ruco when he was in NYC, he is fine man.

But God, these commentators especially Ruco fanboys, take a DEEP BREATH and go outside. He is an AVERAGE actor. He does not have a breakthrough role… maybe this one if I watch it more.

      12. Ruco is probably TVB’s best young actor right now and when I mean young I mean around that age.
        ———–

Theres only a 2 year diff between him, ron and raymond. both raymond and ron are born in same year. ruco is 37, ron and raymond should be turnning 35.

      13. silly larry 3, the dumb commenter, didn’t i say that it’s ok for you to think his acting is average??? Did i slam you for this?

quote:”Look it was two years ago, Ruco was middle 30s that they film. But still you need a cast that is really young to perform these action pack moves ” unquote

….If you notice, I only slammed you for the stupid thing you said abt having a 20plus actor to play Carson, as if Ruco wasn’t capable of doing those stunts, which by the way, I’d like to inform you, the ignorant one that Ruco did almost all the stunts personally. When this was filmed, Ruco was only 34, the same age as his Carson character and more than fully capable of handling anything an actor of 20 plus can do. Conversely, an actor of 20 plus would not have the necessary experience to play Carson. So go suck it, larry 3, stop making noise for the sake of noise.

      14. Stop being an rathole, buzz. Really? My explanation was so clear yet you Buzz got so wild up like a clown. Take some chill pills.

      15. larry 3 , your explanation doesn’t make sense like everything else you’ve been blathering about!

      16. Buzz, safe your energy to support this series and Ruco as for Larry3 he is probably a fan of ??? (don’t want to name anyone) since I have seen him critizing Funn’s compliment about Ruco.

      17. I think Larry 3 just contradicted himself big time when he said “His acting is good but never was prime lead role but never was spectacular. AVERAGE.”
I’m baffled. How can anyone be good yet average? I get it that he can be good but not spectacular but how can he be good but average?

      18. galinkali79 & buzz, you people dont get it at all. FOOLZ

      19. larry3, you don’t know when to shut up do you? Don’t open your mouth again and prove without doubt once and for all that you’re the fool we already know you are. Go back and read yr stupid argument about the 20 yr old plus actor to play Carson and your absurd “good yet average” comment and see if it even makes sense to yourself.

  27. I love Ruco!! He has done it again after great 巨轮。 ROE is simply wonderful! Nothing to complain about.

  28. Ron Ng playing a hot headed police can beat any sui sang and back in 2012 tvb was planning on giving Raymond best actor based on a hot headed cop role tvb knows audience love hot headed cops

    1. And Michael Tse laughing gor so as a hot headed police Ron beats both hands down Ron needs a calm police role.. Ron is made for police roles

      1. Ron Ng acting needs lots of improvement but so does alot of other actors especially the ones holding a few tv kings making the award meaning nothing look at gallen 3 times tv king and he still keeps on improving non stop

      2. One thing about an actor is when u r acting no matter if ur wooden or not bring the character out and making it convincing is a good actor gallen always makes thing convincing there’s no actor at tvb that can do it these day

      3. Ron has been in the industry since what? 2001? He has had plenty of time to find his faults and try to improve but its been 13 years later and he still can’t express sadness properly.

      4. I agree does anything stop and think Ron does what the director says.. Derrick wan once said that he only blinks when a director says so which is most probably what Ron does what the director and producer says

      5. So what if Ron been in the industry so 13 years tvb stopped him becoming the next Aaron Kwok he good at hot headed action role like Aaron Kwok go complain about that he not made for tv dramas sorry Ron go do movies

  29. And what does it have to do with what I said to groundhog?

  30. I’m sorry; you lost me. I don’t get what’s the issue.

  31. I didn’t say I wanted a happy ending. Now I am totally lost and confused.

  32. To be more precise I did not say I want or not want a happy ending.

    1. I just hope Carson won’t die and end up with Yip Ting. I heard rumors that Carson will die.

  33. Funn Lim:

If you’re still reading the comments in this article, where can I find your episode reviews?

  34. I really pleased with all the ratings of the tv films
And I really love watching is swip in love I love this tv film it simple and is not hard to understand………..
    :)………>.<

  35. galinkali79:
The thing is US is not the target market for tvb series. tvb has hardly ever care about the ratings/how much people watches their series in north american or europe.

    1. Jules, I don’t know where are you from but I live in the US and there sources here in the US with high numbers of viewers. Don’t you know there are significant numbers of Asian residents in the US? Specially CA & NY I never mentioned any western people watching this series. I have seen a couple of request online for Spanish & English subtitles may be are ABCs that don’t understand Chinese.

      1. if subtittles available for non-Chinese speakers is available online, what are some of these links? I dont speak fluent Chinese, so subtitles will greatly help me.

      2. TVB has English subtitles as they show it in Hong Kong market. Not a lot of torrent uploaders feed to English subs in the various video formats like mkv. Its consider very rare.

In the USA, only way is to get DVDs from Tai Seng distributor which has English subs

    2. Jules, I care more about the series than the ratings and I believe where Asian live there is always audiences that stick with TVB’s series. I am sure there states where Asian population is very low. I remember when I was in Venezuela my whole family, friends, relative, all rent TVB series and yes it cost $$$ not like now that is available for free

      1. I have been to NY and California and their chinatown is small. most people spoke mandarin. rarely you will see cantonese speakers

      2. I can’t speak for California but in NY its def Cantonese speakers. All the stores and restaurants are still canto workers and etc. Though it can’t be denied that the Mando speakers are popping here and there within the past few years.

If some of you consider the Brooklyn 8th ave to be a “Chinatown” that’s where there are more mando speakers but still it’s dominantly Canto speakers.

      3. Kev, you have been to CA & NY Chinatown? I don’t know how big is NY Chinatown since I never been there but Southern California old Chinatown is small if you go to San Gabriel, Monterey Park, Rowland Heights, Diamond Bar, Rosemead you will be shocked about the Chinese population

      4. Kev, most Asian here including Vietnamese speaks both Cantonese and Madarin I am one of the Cantonese who speak Mandarin

      5. New York City has 5 or 6 Chinatowns. Manhattan is the center of Cantonese speaking. Its now 50-50 even Canto and Mando plus some garbage dialects.

  36. I actually like the drama Ruse of Engagement …I am fans of anyone in this drama…just like those kind of drama…watch it everyday!
I don’t like the drama Swipe Tap Love ….maybe the dating life is like that in HK nowday! But sorry i don’t like it…not because of anyone…

  37. 1. If the ratings are Nielsen based, then the sample projects to the Hong Kong population. There are a few adjustments but overall you do get a fairly good scientific read.

    2. Aimee Chan should not be outperforming anyone. If she is truly outperforming Ron, he best be learning a new trade

    3. Priscilla Wong – she is actually okay facially but doesn’t anyone else find her voice messed up and the way she projects her characters, like, irritating as ****?

    4. The HK audience is fine. Their negative opinion on the current TVB lineup is just as valuable as any of your positive opinions.

  38. IMO, this is Ruco’s best role to date, even better than Brother’s Keeper and i love, love, love him in BK. He really gave the performance of his life in this drama. In BK, he was mellower but that’s becos the role of Sam requires him to age over a span of 20 over years. In this, he’s so young and energetic. Love all his action scenes and the flirtatious way he talks to Aimee and Yoyo’s characters. Those not watching don’t know that they’re missing out on a very entertaining suspenseful drama. I must say that the producer spared no costs and efforts to make the action/explosion scenes as realistic as possible. The ATF office in particular looked quite impressive to me. Other highlights are the jump by Ruco from the bridge, the lab explosion, the car chase, the execution and the electric chair scenes. Very well executed and realistic! Superb acting by Ruco as always.

    1. Agree with you Choco. Ruco is superb none of the characters he performed disappoint me. In addition I noticed a very detail reaction on the lab explosion scene where Ruco saved Jessica. He (Ruco) open the door as like the door’s handle were really hot, those little things are very hard to perform during filming, because it will be easily forgotten (unless the handle was actually hot or just part of the acting?)

      1. Yes, he pays attention to little details like this which is what makes his acting such a joy to watch.

  39. too bad it aired in the wrong period. wished this broadcast near the awards

    1. So far this is the most intense series and should not be easily forgotten. I will rewatch near the award ceremony. I just can’t get enough of Ruco action scenes. Will always support you Ruco…you are the best

    2. Mandy, didn’t get what you mean by “very obessed” BTW…I don’t think TVB will give Ruco the BA award even with his superb performance in ROE because many people will be disappointed specially Kenneth Ma fans. I don’t think Ruco has enough fans to get the BA

    3. Titana, I am not a fan of Kenneth but according to TVB management + Ruco still has limited fans it will be really hard for him to win BA. Based on popularity Kenneth wins Ruco but based on acting Ruco definitely K.O. Kenneth.

  40. I actually do think that the drop in viewership is due to

    1. More people are watching online and TVB is not counting that in there rating calculations
    2. I think currently there is some kind of anti-TVB thingy going around (because of the HKTV license) so a fair bit of ppl are boycotting TVB
    3. of course, one of the most important reason, people are complaining that TVB are not producing high quality drama anymore (the story are always the same and predictable).

Frankly, I can only agree part of it. when tvb screen other genre of drama, like Heaven and Earth, the magician show of Adam cheng, very few appreciated the different approach that tvb did. They try different thing, everyone complain. They stick to same kind of family drama, ppl also complain. ppl are hard to please

anyway i have to say some drama are really disappointing now. but i personally think, if one like the drama, just follow and if you dont, dont watch.

    1. And I have to add.
I like ROE , its been a lot time since I want to chase to know what is next in a tvb drama

and i think Ruco is becoming undercover king. so many undercover that no one misses laughing gor anymore..just kdding

    2. valid points abc.
not everyone likes police dramas since its predictable

      1. I don’t agree with “police dramas are predictable” at least this series is not predictable . A lot of predictions about who is the mole were wrong and it always end with cliffhangers that make you wonder.

      2. I don’t agree with “police dramas are predictable
        ———————————————————

the academy. on the first beat, were predictable. um anonymouse got it right with the mole. the poster who post under anonymouse was right saying that the two people who touched the suitcase would be the mole. so it is predictable

      3. Almost all TVB police dramas are predictable if its Un-entertainment.

      4. Sally, if saying that 2-3 people who touched the suitcase is the mole called predictable then I can predict if the weather is not hot then it will be cold. When a series is so called “predictable” means that you know what will happened next and pointing out 2 or 3 names out is not what you called predictable.

      5. The scene that is predictable was end of episode 14 when Carson got excecuted, everyone know that he is not dead…but people still predict he may come back with memory loss or turn into a villain

      6. I am not here to start any argument just want to enjoy and share my thoughts about this awesome series.

      7. gallnkali79
        Have a read @ anonymouse’s post
‘Hey guys, you are all wrong I can tell you the mole is the guy who dropped the bag of the scientist on the table with a mini GPS device that’s how the safety house was discovered. You guys are not paying attention to detail haha.

He is the culprit. and been hanging around Jessica and Beauty on the side to know all of ATF operations.’

      8. Titana, I didn’t read Anonymous post who did he/she named? I just fight back with the fact that name more than one person does not consider predictable

      9. perhaps reading the comments more carefully would benefit people before commenting.

      10. Vicky, there 200+ comments in this post may miss or forget even I have read it. Yeah, anonymous was wrong about the mole

      11. galinkali79
thats no excuse. Titana already posted that person’s comment about who is the mole and his guess was right

    3. ABC, i agree with you ” They try different thing, everyone complain. They stick to same kind of family drama, ppl also complain. ppl are hard to please”.

  41. Funn, thank you for your recap on episode 20. I don’t have time to watch until I get home from work and had my kids set to bed. Your recap is awesome kind of satisfy my urge, Ruse of Engagement is awesome. Normally for TVB’s series will wait until the whole series become available to start watching but this series is a bomb cannot resist to wait after reading your first episode recap.

  42. I am so happy for all of you in this article with positive or negative comments, support ROE or not since no series is perfect even I find ROE the best action drama so far. By creating discussions it shows that this series is getting a lot of attention!

  43. I just finished episode 20 another cliffhanger ending. Now have to wait for 2 days…feel like a punishment

      1. Ben, to me it is a cliffhanger cuz want to see how bad Carson feels for shooting his own brother…I love to see his facial expressions

      2. thats not hard to imagine. place yourself in carsons shoe and obv. he will be hurt and probs be excused of being heartless, that ‘why did you not spare him’ attitude. aimee as a gf may be confused.. list goes on.

        not a cliffhanger at all.

      3. It is a cliffhanger;

“an ending to an episode of a serial drama that leaves the audience in suspense.”

I never expected Carson to shoot Alfred. I certainly did not expect Jessica to stand by the side like a wallflower. In fact the latter is the cliffhanger for me. Of course Alfred will survive, will be so very b-utt hurt about it all but perhaps the real cliffhanger is will Jessica believe Carson is the good guy or like Alfred believes he is rotten?

      4. if you watched the snippet of next episode two days before, you know that Carson would shoot Alfred or Alfred shoot Carson.

you obviously did not watch the preview of next episode nor read the episode synposis on tvbs website. its not a cliffhanger

      5. obvious people are not using their common sense.
alfredr would not shoot his brother. if he did shoot, it would hurt his relationship with jessica. how to be together if alfred shot his brother?

      6. jessica will obv. be like alfred. if she believes in carson. alfred and jessica wont be together b/c jessica will have hope that carson would return to herside.

      7. geez, is there a need to argue over what’s a cliff hanger? As long as galinkali or Funn feel like the ending leaves them in suspense and dying to know what’s going to happen in the next episode, it’s a cliff hanger to them. Who are you Kelly to tell them that it’s not? Has it occurred to you that not everyone reads the tv synopsis or watch the episode previews? Even then episode previews are designed as teasers to entice the audience to tune in, so they’re cliff hangers.

      8. @choco-bunny

did you watch the sneak peaks of next episodes from previous days from day one ? if you have. many of the screen previews came true in that episode.

      9. I was surprised Carson shot Alfred and would like to know what he was thinking? Hope it is reasonable action

      10. the drama is filmed at an objective view. you wont be able to know what each character is thinking deep inside

      11. Catherine, yes I do but not everyone does. Some people avoid them as they don’t like spoilers. Even if I watched the previews, like i said, these are teasers or highlights of the next episode which serve to keep the viewer in suspense. Put simply another way, if you enjoy the drama and look forward to the next episode, the ending is a cliff hanger for you as you can’t wait for the next episode. For those who don’t like the drama, they won’t be looking forward to the next episode, so not a cliffhanger to them. Hope that clarifies my POV.

      12. For those who don’t like the drama, they won’t be looking forward to the next episode, so not a cliffhanger to them.

That does not make any sense. You can like or dislike the drama, but it doesn’t impact that person’s view of the episode previews as cliffhangers. Someone could dislike the drama but still view it as a cliffhanger or vice versa, someone could like the drama but not view it as a cliffhanger.

      13. To rhythm, it makes perfect sense to me. If you don’t like the drama, nothing’s going to make you want to watch the next episode, cliff hanger or not.

      14. f you don’t like the drama, nothing’s going to make you want to watch the next episode, cliff hanger or not.

You could watch the drama if theres an artiste you like.

        —-

        Yup. fully supporting.

      16. Kelly the version I am watching does not have previews of next episode. And even if there is preview it is still a cliffhanger because now it becomes why he shot his brother. Why are we arguing about cliffhangers as if we are drawing intestines explaining how cliffhangers work?

      17. yes, i agree with Funn – this discussion is most meaningless as i was trying to point out several posts ago. My point : “As long as galinkali or Funn feel like the ending leaves them in suspense and dying to know what’s going to happen in the next episode, it’s a cliff hanger to them.”

      18. the episode previews are uploaded onto tvbs youtube channel btw

      19. I think this is the most inane post ever, arguing about cliffhangers and previews when none relate to the series. If you don;t think it is a cliffhanger then so be it.And to enjoy this series fully, avoid future spoilers and previews, thereby preserving the cliffhanger element.

      20. “And to enjoy this series fully, avoid future spoilers and previews, thereby preserving the cliffhanger element.”

I have been watching this drama from start to its current episode. I am not sure why TVB postponed the airing of this fabulous drama. I personally think that this drama is one of the better police dramas from TVB. I like it more than Lives of Omission, Emergency Unit. It has everything (eg. suspense, action, romantic) in one drama. Amy Wong did a really good job of producing this drama. That being said, I will admit that I had watched the previews (the versions I am watching came with it) and I have also read the episode synopsis very vaguely. But everyone enjoys this series differently. Although I have read the episode synopsis briefly and the previews, it remains suspenseful to my liking and I am still enjoying the series fully. Simply because a person watched snippets or read the synopsis, it doesn’t mean that the individual isn’t enjoying the series less than someone who isn’t doing any of that. For me, I chose to read the synopsis and the future previews because this series caught my attention and I wanted to know in advance what would happen to some of the characters. Am I still feeling suspense despite knowing what will happen? Yes, I am because although they have released snippets, the order of events remains suspenseful and it leaves room for me to imagine!

      21. Bubblez, I think the reason this drama release date was push back is due to the following:
        1) Series filmed in 2011, Ruco was still new and not so popular which may lead to a dramatic low ratings.(only one lead drama TOT)
        2) TVB received so many complaints about Ruco’s role to be the main character and not Ron.
        3) TVB wants Ruco to build up popularity first and obviously his popularity increased for the past 2 years.

Please correct me if wrong or nonesence.
I believe rating is going down hill is due to fans preference on the character/actor it has nothing to do with the series.

      22. Funn, thanks for Ruco’s weibo account but wonder if he really has time to read or post comments since he seems like having busy schedules filming

      23. I think Ron was right when he said TVB wanted to show tiger cubs first

      24. Official reason given is that ROE is too similar to TC. Hence the broadcast of ROE was pushed back. Whatever the reason, thank goodness it wasn’t warehoused. It’d be a big shame especially since tvb had spent so much money producing this, with all the explosion scenes galore and the exciting plot. Talk about better late than never.

      25. Simply because a person watched snippets or read the synopsis, it doesn’t mean that the individual isn’t enjoying the series less than someone who isn’t doing any of that.

        yup indeed.

      26. And to enjoy this series fully, avoid future spoilers and previews, thereby preserving the cliffhanger element.

who are you to tell what viewers should do?

  44. did anyone happen to check, anyway i did, after swipe tap love, tvb is going to play “Journey to the west” a china production which has no actor that i know and it is 66 episode.. and the show is shown in china in 2011.. freak
is tvb trying to kill themselves?

    1. That’s a good version of JTTW and the actor who played Monkey King was very very good. So it is perhaps time for you to get to know a new actor.

    2. guess tvb is trying to try out new things. it could be good thing for tvb to try out new measures.

    3. oh is it. I am not very familiar with tv actors in china. But to show a 2011 drama i think thats quite a bad idea. They already have a lot of completed drama that they can show.

Anyway my point is, tvb also use drama to put their actor in demand and thats how they made ppl (actor in demand, more appearance fee (they get commission)). So I failed to understand why they are brocasting china drama which has no benefit for them especially at this current moment, they are having a lot of negative press. They should try to promote their artist more.

anyway thats my point of view. no right or wrong

  45. really love the drama. too bad it aired at a bad timing. if other dramas are well received, tight competition.
