“Bu Bu Jing Xin” Film Version Confirmed

Good news for fans of Ruoxi and the Fourth Prince! Bu Bu Jing Xin <步步驚心> will return in movie format, and it seems that the characters and plot will remain true to the original TV series.

The time-travelling love story became an instant hit in 2011. Its success spawned sequel Bu Bu Jing Qing <步步驚情> and the real-life romance between stars Nicky Wu (吳奇隆) and Cecilia Liu (劉詩詩). Although the sequel was highly anticipated, it ultimately failed to generated the same level of excitement as its predecessor, and many fans complained about its confusing production.

Perhaps wanting to please fans once again, a film version is now in the works to re-capture the magic of the original palace romance. On June 18, China’s State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) released a list of upcoming film projects green-lit by its approval committee. On the list is New Bu Bu Jing Xin <新步步驚心>, filed under distributor HS Media, which had previously handled Vicki Zhao‘s (趙薇)’s popular directorial debut So Young <致我們終將逝去的青春>.

The plot summary indicates that the story will begin in the year 2014, and will once again follow modern white-collar employee Zhang Xiao to the Qing Dynasty where she falls in love with the Fourth Prince and the Eighth Prince.

There is currently no information about the film’s cast, though many are hoping Nicky and Cecilia will reprise their roles. Disappointed by sequel Bu Bu Jing Qing, fans expressed mixed feelings regarding the news and are wary that the film will be unable to do justice to the TV classic.

    1. Totally agree. It’s not like the film is setting up to add something to the series. Often film will just compressed everything and lose the depth and richness of the series. Also what made the series so good is the amazing cast and their chemistry. I’m not sure they will be able to bring all the original main cast back especially Lin Geng Xin who fell out with Tangren and Yuan Hong who left Tangren.

  1. Can’t they just let it go? Because it feel dumber and dumber at each sequel/attempt to prolong the franchise. Are they trying to make ppls absolutely hate the series -.-? Also, to fans, they re trying to milk you more than trying to “please” the fans >_> sugarcoating press >_>

  2. Milking it to death, lol Movie will be interesting if the original cast reprise their roles!

  3. can they just give it a break?
i’m fans of BBJX and Nicky&LSS, but i prefer to let the good and classic of BBJX stays there

  4. Even with the original cast in tact I wonder if everyone will be able to repeat his or her role or even improve on his previous role. This time round I’m sure Nicky and Cecilia will have more ‘sparks’showing off their intense love. Will Kevin be willing to be in the act again, after he declined to act in the sequel to BBJX, his excuse being that he had already accepted to be in Hua Xu Yin?

    1. Hua Xu Yin looks pretty cool. I can’t wait to watch it! heh! Glad he said no the BBJQ. I like the series, but it’s one of those series that I can’t watch twice. The movie doesn’t interest me either. I know Yuan Hong and Lin gengxin are not likely to join the production either. I think the prince are the one that really made the series work.

  5. Seriously, there’s no need for film version. The original itself is already good enough. Plus, they won’t be able to bring back everyone from the original cast. What a waste of time and budget!
