“Brother’s Keeper” Finale Breaks 35 Ratings Points

With the finale drawing a whopping 35.2 point viewership rating, Brother’s Keeper 2 <巨輪II> is now the record holder for most-watched TVB ending over the last two years.

Producer Amy Wong (王心慰), who initially did not plan for a third installment jokingly said she may have to reconsider matters.

Grace Chan Grateful for Rape Scene

Although Brother’s Keeper 2 started off with fairly average ratings, Grace Chan‘s (陳凱琳) rape scene with her step-father, played by Hugo Ng (吳岱融), became a hot topic among viewers. While the scene was highly controversial, Grace voiced her gratefulness in being given the opportunity to play the challenging role of Nana.

Grace expressed, “I’m very happy and very thankful! I hope everyone will give me a chance and see how much effort I put in. I hope everyone allows me to improve. The high ratings are not an outcome I achieved on my own – the storyline was very good from start to end! I gained a lot from filming this drama!”

In response to previous allegations that boyfriend Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) was highly disapproving of her rape scene in Brother’s Keeper 2, Grace said, “Kevin was very understanding and he knews that it’s a good thing for actors to try different roles. He’s very supportive and when I have questions, he helps me.”

39 Episodes Worth of Pressure

Reprising his role in this second installment, male lead Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) finally let out a sigh of relief after the grand finale. While he was pleased with the ending, Edwin revealed that there were a lot of pressure filming the series.

Fortunately for Edwin’s fans, they can see him again in his new series, Two Steps from Heaven <幕後玩家>. When asked whether or not these two series will help him take home the Best Actor title, Edwin explained that he was never one to think about winning awards. However, the actor jokingly said the ratings were boosted due to viewers being homebound as a result of Typhoon Haima.

Kristal Tin (田蕊妮) was also very pleased with the turnout of the finale. The actress disclosed, “Although I’m playing the same character in the sequel, there were a lot of challenges. It doesn’t matter what the ratings were in the past, but I was very happy with this current performance of ‘Reckless Ying’. I’m very lucky to have played her again and it’s good enough for me that I was able to finish off the series with a happy ending.”

  1. It’s all due to the typhoon, everyone stayed at home to watch TV. Without thtyphoon, I doubt the rating would be that high. Maybe lower than 30.

  2. @celin

    You are absolutely right!!!

The drama was only good for the first 5 episodes.
I have tried to watch further. But i didn’t.

Bad storyline and the maincast is weak. Verry weak.

I do think they all have to thank mother Nature. Without that typhoon, the ratings will ben 22/23.

    1. @siro112233 Episode 5 was already the ending of BK for me. I didn’t watch the rest.

Just find that nothing to be happy and to celebrate for the high rating was mainly due to the typhoon on that night.

  3. TVB should stop embarrassing itself by making a mountain out of this little molehill. Why don’t they report the overall avg ratings instead? Probably too ashamed to do so! Out of total 39 eps and the last ep has 35 points is an event worth blowing its trumpet over? Really smh!!

  4. lol i wonder if tvb artists have to brainwash themselves to believe that they did well when their dramas get high ratings due to external factors (like a typhoon.)

i can be happy about high ratings, but to be totally oblivious as to the reason why, requires that i be completely ignorant of the facts or actually ignore the underlying factors or lie through my teeth.

      1. @aiya true and that is something tvb mgmt should validate rather than artists. but if that is the case, then there’s nothing for artists to celebrate about, since the high ratings has nothing to do with them.

  5. Pls don’t let this win best drama . I’m happy if either house of spirits or fist wall to win it

  6. i just want to laugh at how tvb makes it so big that this series got a 35 when edwin himself knows that show only got big because of the typhoon. tvb really just want to keep believing that flopping series are still good…

  7. Oh gawd!  HK audiences, what are you doing???  Typhoon or no typhoon, people should’ve just kept the TV turned OFF and let the series die like it was on the path to doing prior to the finale.  Now we may have to endure yet another lame sequel to this undeserving franchise!  Worse yet, now TVB has an excuse to give Grace Chan the Most Improved award again, since “her series” got “high ratings” and her rape scene was “much talked about”  — honestly, who is going to remember that the 35 points was only peak rating for 1 episode (it’s not even average rating, which is actually the number that counts) and that it was an “anomaly” due to the typhoon?

Of course, leave it up to “TVB mouthpiece” Oriental Daily to make a big deal out of this and in the process, make TVB look good once again.  This is one reason why I don’t bother with Oriental Daily’s news anymore.  And everyone keeps harping on how Apply Daily (Next Media) is bad….well, looks like Oriental Daily is quickly getting to Apple Daily’s “level”….

    1. @llwy12

Highly doubted that Grace would win most improve again. Have any1 ever won it twice?

It will definitely give tvb reason to promote her more.

  8. Did any1 here watched the drama pass epi 30?

Mayb the drama became more interesting towards the end. Thats y more people watched the ending. There are more free tv channels so im sure they could just watch something else if it was that bad.

  9. Yak, Grace Chan , acting no improvements at all , just because she is Kevin’s girlfriend and with rich family backgrounds , doesn’t mean she is great , TVB please don’t put her in the coming dramas , sickening to see her over doing acting !!!
