Carmaney Wong Wins Miss Hong Kong 2019

The 2019 Miss Hong Kong Pageant has found its beauty queens.

Ten contestants aged 19 to to 25 competed for the Miss Hong Kong crown on Sunday, September 8 in Tseung Kwan O. 25-year-old Carmaney Wong (黃嘉雯) easily defeated her fellow delegates and won the crown by a landslide, becoming Miss Hong Kong of 2019. 23-year-old Fei Wong (王菲) won first runner-up and Miss Photogenic. 19-year-old Kelly Gu (古佩玲) won second runner-up.

Around 200 TVB artistes attended the event as celebrity judges or special guests. Their votes were combined with the star judge panel and the Hong Kong viewers using the “big big fun” app ti select the three winners.

The theme of this year’s stage is water world. True to Miss Hong Kong’s motto of combining beauty with wisdom, the contestants showed off their talents through various performances. They offered quick answers to challenging questions, and walked a bikini show. The TVB artistes interacted with the contestants constantly for a more lively atmosphere.

The ten girls collaborated in several performances: all ten girls performed a dance break with TVB stars Dickson Yu (余德丞) and Arnold Kwok (郭子豪). When it came to their own solo performances, our three winners Carmaney, Fei, and Kelly found a common ground of doing solo dances. Blossom Chan (陳熙蕊) performed a rap segment, Katy Yeung (楊詠彤) did a ribbon dance, while Kayan Choi (蔡嘉欣) did aerial yoga. Maggie Leung (梁敏巧) and Ivy Liu (廖倬竩) were the first two contestants to get fouled out.

The remaining eight contestants were asked to do “ugly poses,” which they all were more than happy to deliver. In the end, judges selected Carmaney as Most Beautiful Contestant. During the Q&A section, judges noted that Carmaney, Kayan, and Blossom had the wittiest responses.

Blossom won Miss Friendship, but was eliminated before the final round. Top five finalists were Fei, who won Miss Photogenic, with Carmaney, Kelly, Kayan, and Fefe Tse (謝采芝). The girls were in tears when their names were announced. Fei said though she knew she had always been one of the more unpopular candidates, she insisted to go through with the race. Kelly said she hopes she would continue fighting like the Sailor Scouts.

In the end, Kayan and Fefe were eliminated, leaving Kelly as second runner-up, Fei as first runner-up and Carmaney as Miss Hong Kong.

  1. I think Fei had the best face. Carmaney looks old but has a great bod. I do see potential in Fefe, she has good features.

I have no idea how #10 made it to the top five…

    1. @bubbles23 #10 is Fefe BTW.
Kelly Gu deserved second runner up if not more, but someone was mean with her hair. She’s actually the most natural one
Fei Wong is just hard to have as first runner up because she did so well in everything, but she was missing luck and that “spark.”
Carmaney Wong is what I would call a “shoe in” at this point. She does have the height and physique, but her answers weren’t clever. She answered them well and as expected. A little boring in my humble opinion. How do you take care of your ankles? “I brush the dead skin and apply masks.”
If the contest wasn’t based on looks, #10 would have been the winner. She has the height (she is as tall as Kayan) and talent (did you hear her sing?) but like she even said herself “big boned and not feminine enough.” I find her elegant and damn, those straight white teeth.
Kayan is easy on the eyes, cute, and (the) tall(est), but not talented or witty enough. She even said her body figure doesn’t stand out.

      1. @jesspepperwang “How do you take care of your ankles?”

LOL.. was that actually one of the questions that were asked?

I mean, I’ve always known these pageants to be a joke, but it’s much worse than I’d thought. Not sure that there is even an ‘intelligent’ way to answer that… ask stupid questions, get stupid answers.

      2. @oystergirl
Based on the answer it might be asking about ‘how to prevent ‘freckles’ since HK girls treat freckles like it is the end of the world. I refuse to watch the Miss HK competition to check the question though…

      3. @jesspepperwang I meant to say Katy Yeung is easy on the eyes, cute, and (the) tall(est), but not talented (weak ribbon dance) or witty enough. She even said her body figure doesn’t stand out.

Kayan Choi to me is a solid contestant. She’s on par with Fefe Tse #10.

      4. @jesspepperwang oops haha. Yes, I meant Kelly the second runner up. And yes, Carmaney was definitely just steady throughout, nothing special.

LOL I am not sure how #10 with measurements like 27″ and 38″ would have won. Her face is okay but her body proportions aren’t enough to make up for winning a pageant.

    2. @bubbles23
Yeh. The first thing I thought was after seeing this picture is ‘the winner looks old’. Not the best if looking for someone to promote for a long timespan…

  2. There’s no way she’s only 25 years old she looks more like in her 40’s already from the picture above even Tavia looks younger than her. Imagine Wong Fei won people might think she’s Nicholas Tse girlfriend because of her name?

    1. @cutie777 Some women look much older than their age period. haha lol…Just like how I imagine Rebecca Zhu was it? hahaa barely 30? My goodness!! She looks like she’s in her 40’s as well most of the time. haha
