Celebrity Weddings: Mandy Cho and Jacky Cheung

Miss Hong Kong 2003, Mandy Cho Man Lei, got married with finance executive, Jacky Cheung Ka Kit at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong on October 27th. The newlyweds kissed repeatedly to meet reporters’ requests. Mandy joked, “We kissed so much, my lips got twisted!” Regarding having a baby, Mandy indicated that she will let things run their natural course. However, she knew how to change diapers and would be able to take care of babies.

From earlier sketches of the wedding reception design, five thousand roses were to be used to decorate the venue. The flowers were to be shaped into various wreaths. Allegedly, the amount spent on the floral design would cost $300,000 (HKD).  Mandy’s engagement ring was a brilliant threecarat diamond ring, set in a band of smaller diamonds. Her wedding ring was a diamond eternity band valued at over $100,000 (HKD).

Mandy and Jacky obtained their marriage registration in New York City in September. Their wedding ceremony was a simple affair held in a small park. The couple did not invite any friends or family to attend. Mandy and Jacky took studio wedding photos earlier, posing with Mandy’s pair of poodle dogs.

Due to her advanced age, Mandy’s grandmother who resides in New York , could not travel to the Hong Kong wedding banquet. Mandy and Jacky already poured tea for her grandmother in the traditional bridal tea ceremony.

Jayne: The sketches of Mandy’s wedding hall design look fabulous! With the abundance of roses, it must have been a beautiful sight. While her wedding dress looks expensive, the accessories and make-up looked a little subdued though.

Mandy’s sisters and mom look very good by the way. From her features, you can tell that her grandma was probably very pretty when she was young too.

  1. Sorry but I thought her wedding dress despite the cost and all looks rather plain. She doesn’t look like the beaming bride. Maybe the foundation on her face is the problem?

  2. Grandma prob look pretty when she was young? “features” How did you get that? It’s opinionated so I’m not doubtiing you 🙂

Happy for Mandy for starting her family. Nice ring ^^

  3. A.M. beauty is often about good proportioned facial features. Looking past the botchy skin and wrinkles, Mandy’s grandma has high cheekbones, well-proportioned eyes and a sweet smile. Mandy also has a good looking mom and sisters, who probably inherited the good looks from grandma.

  4. Mandy’s hubby, Jacky, looks like basketball giant, Yao Ming. Hehe he could play little Yao Ming in a commercial!

  5. I wish she or husband selected a good nice set of wedding ring. The stone is big but it is so plain. Good wish to the couple. She is cute but yes she is not a beaming bride.

  6. Who are the 3 ladies in one of the photos? Mandy looks uncomfortable in that photo. Also, is Mandy just being honest or is she showing off? She seems to emphasize greatly on how much is being spent on the wedding.

Mandy is a beautiful girl. But I do agree that she doesn’t entirely look like a “beaming bride”.

  7. that’s not the Jacky Cheung i know! Where is the news on Hok Yau???

  8. I kind of like her dress, simple and elegant. The make-up does not need to be overdone, natural is the best. I am assuming based on Jayne’s comment that the lady in yellow is Mandy’s sister, at a glance, she looks like Selena Li. Congratulations to her and her new journey as a married woman.

  9. Nina, the women wearing the yellow and green dresses are Mandy’s sisters. Her mom is the lady in red and black dress.

  10. Congrats to Mandy and Jacky. I think she wanted to keep her dress and makeup simple but she still looks elegant. With her degree in gemology, I thought she may have been interested in designing her own ring and jewelry to make them more extravagant? I wonder if she did?

  11. Mandy and her family all look very beautiful. I’m not sure if I sense love like I did with Heidi’s wedding.

  12. Pandamao, I had the same gut feeling as you but wasn’t sure if I was just being sensitive. Mandy’s body language does seem a little stiff and her smile not the most brilliant.

In one of her recent interviews (I think it may have been East Magazine), she gave me the sense that she was fed up with TVB, her career was not going in the direction she wanted. She admitted that she had a difficult temperament, yet Jacky was a very patient man. She pointed out that they had very different interests. She liked to read fashion and entertainment gossip, while Jacky liked to read the financial news. She said in the past she would get upset with him because of these differences, but now she learned to appreciate their differences, etc.

Mandy gave me the sense that she settled with Jacky, or perhaps he was very accommodating and treated her like a princess.

  13. Yes Jayne – the feeling of settling. That’s exactly what I wanted to point out. Mandy is a very smart and realistic woman. I can see her moving on away from things she cannot control, ie her career in TVB.

I don’t want to be so harsh, but because I have friends like Mandy in real life, I don’t think this marriage will work out. If her career ever turns around in the entertainment world, I see this marriage falling apart. Hopefully I’m wrong.

  14. In that picture where Mandy with her bridesmaids, that girl in yellow Looks like Maggie Q!Holy shiz!

  15. good looks really run in her family.

I think the pic looks kinda of weird because she stands at the side? usually the bride stands in the middle coz she is the limelight on that special day.

  16. Let’s not judge Mandy, guys, and I hope that she will be happy.

By the way, I agree that both her sisters are gorgeous! Good looking family!

  17. Pandamao, some women “settle” because they feel they can not find someone better. Mandy’s love towards Jacky does not come across as passionate, only practical.

When Mandy first announced her engagement, she had a “tell-all” interview, where you spoke about TVB’s promotion of artists that follow orders. She said that her personality did not fit TVB’s expectations. Ms. Lok spoke to her a few times and asked her, “Mandy, why are you always so difficult?” Mandy said that she didn’t like to appear on game shows where she has to roll around a mat with male actors and refused to participate in these kind of shows. But she was considered difficult.

To give herself a breather, Mandy then went to New York to take a class on gemstone studies. This was when she met and first dated Jacky. But they split up because of personality differences.

After returning to HK, Mandy dated Stephen Huynh and gave a second attempt at TVB. But again she said her personality was not fit for the circle. She went back to NY for a visit and met Jacky again, who was still in love with her.

From her accounts, she does seem grateful for Jacky to have waited for her for 4? years. Any woman would be moved. At the same time, Mandy was unhappy with her TVB career. Pandamao, I don’t think she intends to act anymore. After marriage, I think she is happy to just pursue her own interests.

I believe in the same interview, Mandy had said she does not want to pursue a career in gemstone industry. She took the class only to satisfy her interests.

I don’t think she is a big career woman, but rather a woman who is looking for love in life. “Settling” with someone who loves you more in a relationship is not necessarily a bad thing in life. Marriage is about practicality and compatibility. Sometimes if the other partner loves you enough, perhaps he will make more effort to be more “compatible” and accommodate the woman.

Danielle, I am not judging Mandy, but rather speculating on her relationship with Jacky. Many of my comments are based on her interview (forgot the publication, may have been East Magazine). From the female perspective, I identify with her, so I am not saying anything negative about her personality or marriage choice.

  18. Jayne – Without having read the interview, I definitely did sense settlement in this marriage and felt she rushed into this. And to speak in comparison, not only is she not as vibrant as Heidi, she also expressed happiness below of Gigi Lai as well.

Regardless I’m still happy for her because she’ll always go home to a man that will give her everything.

To clarify, I do not view her as one of those marry for the elite status.

  19. She married for money…he wanted a beautiful girl by his side… plain and simple… I mean Mandy could have done so much better!!

  20. ^ Done so much better as in what? Getting a better looking husband?

What’s with this jumping to conclusion that a girl marrying a rich man means she marries for money and a man marrying a beautiful woman means he wants a beautiful girl by his side? Couldn’t there be love in it? Couldn’t it be the man’s sincerity and love (he waited for her for 4 years) touched Mandy? Couldn’t it be the man really love Mandy’s whole person?

They might have different personality and interest, but, some people are attracted to people that are different from themselves. I know a guy who keep falling for girls that do not match his personality. He said he tried dating other type of girls, but, the passion just wasn’t there. Only that certain type of girls (whose personality can be said to be direct opposite of him) can ignite that deep passion in him.

Rich men and beautiful women are both capable of love.

  21. Of course she married for money, love is of course a preference. How much will she want to marry him if he wasn’t rich and successful? And the truth is not every man in the world looks like a super star. And men, even unsuccessful ones want to marry a pretty girl whilst a girl, even the ugly ones want to marry for comfort and security.

It’s like a trade off. Oh love do exists, make no qualms about that. But love is secondary.

  22. Sadly, it feels like these days that “love” is secondary to money and other factors. My dad used to tell me that girls go for “cai”(money/fortune) while guys go for “se”(looks/beauty). I can really see it now… LOve does exist but sadly it seems to come second to money and other factors.. That is even more apparent in the circle as we have seen with actresses and former actresses.

It also doesn’t seem like Mandy is that happy. Her smile seems sort of fake and forced. I honestly must say that even Gigi Lai had a much more real and vibrant smile than she does. I hope that her marriage works out because what if she one day met someone better than Jacky? Would she go for him?? Sadly, marriage is not as secure as it was once viewed as… It is also rare to be married to one person throughout your whole life.

  23. “I honestly must say that even Gigi Lai had a much more real and vibrant smile than she does.”

Gigi Lai has a much more vibrant smile in her wedding picture than a lot of other women in theirs. So, being less vibrant than Gigi is not hard. Gigi’s happiness rating in her wedding pic is not the lowest denominator.

  24. It’s hard to tell how much Mandy loves her husband or how happy she is about her marriage as only she would know, but best wishes to her. It’s hard to tell from her pics or interviews. She has always had an unnatural, forced smile IMHO. Even when she was participating in MHK. The other brides we mentioned have always had nice smiles, like Gigi, Heidi, Leila, etc, so their smiles look a lot more genuine.
