Edison Chen Received Multiple Death Threats on His Life

After announcing that he will return to the entertainment industry, Edison Chen received a death threat yesterday! An anonymous letter was sent to I-Cable News that if Edison will be killed if he does not fully retire by April 4th.

Edison revealed that this was not the first time a threat was placed on his life. After nude photos of various female Hong Kong celebrities surfaced in February 2008, Edison issued a press conference in Hong Kong.

Accompanied by the police when he arrived at the Hong Kong airport, Edison received two death threats on the phone: “You will be killed!”

Jolted by the threat, Edison hung up on the caller. The anonymous caller called back and after a brief exchange, Edison gave his cell phone to the police to follow up on the death threat. The caller appeared to possess intimate knowledge of Edison’s whereabouts and personal information, such as having Edison’s new cell phone number!

After the death threat was received, the security level was increased at Edison’s press conference to 200 police officers. The police designated Edison as requiring special protection and escorted him away once the conference ended, making sure there were no suspicious cars following him. The police continued to protect Edison until he left Hong Kong.

At the time, the public criticized the Hong Kong Police Department for mobilizing too many officers in protecting Edison Chen. It turns out the police had valid concern that Edison’s life was in danger, but they did not explain to the public.
