Episodic Thoughts: “Triumph in the Skies 2” Episode 1 (By Funn)

Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II>
TVB Series 2013

Cast: Francis Ng, Chilam Cheung, Myolie Wu, Fala Chen, Ron Ng, Kenneth Ma, Elena Kong, Him Law, Nancy Wu, Rebecca Zhu, Eliza Sam, and Kelly Fu.

Disclaimer: This is a watch as I write episodic thoughts and some information may not be accurate since this is memory based. Certain dialogue is reproduced with some creative license adopted. I apologize if there is any mistake. All opinion remains my own.

“Roy, if you want to praise Cool Mort, you should do it clearly, he can take it”

I was ready to diss this series but other than the rather old sounding themesong, and the odd Thai looking Skylette Airlines (what happened to Solar?), I was very surprised by how entertaining episode 1 was. Oh it was sorta pretentious but when it comes to a high flying profession, as long as it is not overly pretentious, I can stomach it. I am not looking forward to Zoe’s death, after all in TITS 1, I was all the way for Sam and Zoe. But episode 1 was surprisingly smart, sassy, funny and all things nice except for a few sore points.

We see some old familiar faces which frankly I have forgotten were in the first series. We see Isaac and Roy report for duty at the airport in full I suppose First Officer uniform, looking sharp and good even if older and for Ron, pudgier. Anyway Roy joins Skylette Airlines, and it seems the jumping from Solar Airways is complete with Roy. I am really curious. TVB, why not Solar?

Isaac (brother of Sam) warns Roy that they will be under a new very maverick sort of young Captain nicknamed Cool Mort after Voldemort. Isaac warns that he once yawned and got lectured the entire flight. Roy looks worried. Then came another lower ranked guy whose name I did not catch and he too is worried about Cool Mort himself.

Then we see Cool Mort who is of course Chilam looking rather handsome at a lounge and flirting with a I suppose a pretty celebrity sporting a huge ring. The point is our Cool Mort is a Lothario, he is nice to women, but based on his reputation, not so nice to fellow male colleagues.

Anyway Cool Mort is running late and Isaac told Roy he has to make the call to remind Cool Mort of the time. Roy reluctantly made the call and heard phone ringing and immediately stopped as Cool Mort sarcastically greeted Roy and well, basically lectured Roy on well.. everything. I mean Roy answered the questions about flight to London all well but Cool Mort, super cool and very hard to please and quickly put Roy on the spot and Roy of course felt sorta bullied.

In the plane, we see Chief Stewardess or whatever you call her, that is Coco Ling played by Nancy Wu in what is now her signature sort of role; that experienced go-to character who is wise but you know, not the lead. She is cool headed and encountered an arrogant passenger who refuses to sit next to a sickly old man. So what she did? She changed the sickly old man to a BETTER seat, thus naming and shaming that arrogant passenger.

Pause.

There is an urban legend, or perhaps it may have been a true story where there was a very racist passenger in some flight who refuses to sit next to a black man I believe and complained loudly and so the captain/stewardess agreed to change the passenger to first class but not the racist, but the poor man being racially abused for the inconvenience caused. Clearly TVB reads news or urban legend sites! Anyway pretty cool. Oh I also see Eliza Sam looking like a stewardess!!

Anyway during flight to London, I sorta feel the cockpit is kinda too small for such a long flight. A quick search tells me it is 11 hours. I thought the whole cockpit scene was sorta too unrealistic.

Anyway poor Isaac, Roy and fellow pilot had to sit through the flight listening to Cool Mort retelling every minute of his safari details or something, very boastful and all and Roy couldn’t stand it and said “Sir, perhaps we should let Isaac concentrate on the flight?” and of course he got a earful. And so Cool Mort went on and narrated his greatness so to speak and when Roy said he wanted to get some drinks or something, Cool Mort coolly said “Get me a cup of coffee” and of course that is like a big no no. Isaac said “Sir, shouldn’t that be the job of a stewardess?” but Cool Mort feels Roy can learn from coffee making.

Poor Roy goes to see Coco and complains how Cool Mort is bullying him and he moans “What did I do wrong?!” and Coco says “He is actually a great guy” and Roy groans. Earlier he also asked the same question to Isaac who promptly said “Because you’re not a woman”. True!! Anyway Coco said “Well he deserves his greatness and his arrogance. Did you know he was in the Australian Military? (P/s I think I heard Austalian Air Force or something). He was the pilot who flies the planes and refuels mid air. He is precise, he is cool headed and he is rightfully arrogant. You can learn a lot from him. I mean he may be late in flight but he always arrives on time. I like flying with him” but Roy is not convinced. Coco made the coffee but Roy took it and drink it and Coco had to make a new one and Coco said “He likes his sugar 3/4” and she walked away and funnily Roy quickly took the sugar cube and tried to hack it to exactly 3/4 size! Coco of course laughed quietly.

In the cockpit, they have been flying for 1 hour and can’t land at Heathrow due to bad weather. Everyone in the plane is complaining. All of a sudden, someone needs to attend funeral, graduation, running out of heart pills, etc. You know, the usual. Isaac, Roy and unnamed pilot whose name I still did not catch decided to land elsewhere instead of going through bad storm to land in Heathrow but maverick Cool Mort after discussing with Coco decided to brave the storm.

Long story short, he braved the storm and survived much to the admiration of Roy who said “Wow, that was some great flying, didn’t even feel the turbulence!” and Isaac teased “Roy, if you want to praise Cool Mort, you should do it clearly, he can take it”. Cool Mort snickered a little and suddenly Roy said “Isaac, how can you openly call him Cool Mort?” and Cool Mort gave some timely advice on how to handle turbulence and all and suddenly Coco rushes in with a cake and shouted “SURPRISE!!!” and Isaac smiled sheepishly and Coco says “You have been punked!! We have been planning this the moment you agreed to join Skylette! We created the Cool Mort persona just to scare you! He is actually Jayden Koo. Oh I already uploaded that video of you cutting the sugar cube to 3/4 size!” and Roy abruptly stood up and shouted “YOU THINK THIS IS FUNNY?!” and even Jayden was caught by surprise and Coco says “Ok ok I will delete the video…” when suddenly Roy took the cake and smeared Isaac and fellow pilot with cream and was about to smear Jayden when he stopped and decided to lick the cream himself. Jayden smiled and said “Welcome to my team, I am Jayden” and they shook hands.

Pause.

Now that was funny!! I thought Jayden was such an a-hole but it was all a trick! Rather clever! Earlier I was saying Sam was such a cool Captain and all. So Jayden is in the same vein except he is a womaniser. Wait! Jayden? I think you can “Pick an English name for your child by watching TITS 2”.

Continue.

In London. Wet. Very wet. But nice. We see Fala looking like some emo girl except she is supposed to be a meteorologist working for NASA. WOW. Talk about credentials. She is supposed to be a Meteorologist, working for Nasa who also sells football mementos and also a happy go lucky girl who travels the world. This is this series’ first problem. This character should not exist. And Fala is a miscast. It should be Eliza Sam. Somehow Fala doesn’t seem so chirpy to me. Anyway just know she is also Michelle Yim’s daughter, who is I think owner of a restaurant where Sam is working as a pastry chef? I don’t know. Anyway Sam is not a pilot anymore. He is a pastry chef, and Roy makes it his mission in life to persuade Sam to return as pilot but he refuses. He is happily married to Zoe who we have yet to see and is celebrating her birthday tomorrow (next episode I assume). He has got a great birthday gift for Zoe and so he goes to a gwailo to buy a football shirt memento but was told his girlfriend collected it before him and it turned out to be Fala in disguise as his girlfriend and Sam chases after her, grabs her but Fala pretends not to know Chinese, or English and ran away and poor Sam, no birthday gift for his sweet Zoe.

Pause.

May I say, I am impressed with Francis Ng’s attempt at speaking English. I understood every word, in retrospect, he speaks clearer than Kenneth Ma who supposedly studied overseas.

Continue.

Next episode, I read Zoe dies. This is insane.

So far episode 1 is fun and funny. Other than the slight mishap with how unrealistic the cockpit was or the air stewardess were during the “can’t we land now? I need my heart pill” moment, I thought the entire Jayden-Isaac-Roy scenes were very very funny to watch. Poor Roy, bullied and I especially loved how Jayden was boasting about his outdoor camping and about how great he was. Now we all know it was just a prank. Very funny scene. I also enjoyed Francis Ng’s performance even if his hairstyle is giving me nightmares. He is a fantastic actor and he was the reason TITS 1 was enjoyable. Here he is consistent as the Sam I knew and liked. I thought everyone was good, even Chilam except I did wish his boastful arrogant Cool Mort was the real persona. That would have been awesome you know.

The only problem is Fala as Holly. I find her character impossible. I find her silly and yes I am annoyed. How dare she takes Zoe’s shirt!!! Death to her!! DEATH!! By the way, she becomes a pilot later? Seriously? What can’t she do?

Anyway I hate that Zoe will die. It seems TVB does not know how to make a sequel without killing off a main character and reintroducing a looklike. Why can’t Sam marry Zoe and have children and we see them continue their relationship like how Armed Reaction was with Joyce and Marco’s characters?

Whatever. At least there’s the scenery even if London is wet wet wet. Someone told me she half expected Shah Rukh Khan to rush out and do a song and dance. It felt very Bollywood. But after so many duds in recent releases, for a first episode that was funny and engaging, and makes me want to watch episode 2 (unlike Karma Rider which confuses me with its 80s costumes with 90s storyline), what more can I ask?

Oh, maybe a better themesong. One of the more memorable aspect of TITS 1 was Eason Chan’s themesong. George Lam is a masculine great singer but yeah, the themesong does sound like an 80s wuxia series, which interestingly would have been more at home with Karma Rider!!

  1. You should also add in judgamental/picky to the description of this review.

    1. It’s a episode thought/recap, not a review. And even if it’s so, Funn already stated it’s her personal opinion.

      1. It’s an episode review.
In this case, the definiton I’m using is: ” report or essay giving a critical estimate of a work or performance.”
        Her personal picky opinion.

      2. Lindy,
Funn is known for her detailed write-ups. Some viewers who have not watched the series will appreciate some of the dialogue recap. Also what is the point of a review if the opinion of the writer is not clear?

      3. Funn is known for her intensive picky/judgemental reviews.

      4. And surely that is coming from your own friendship with Funn.

      5. Lindy,
Entertaining or not is based on your opinion. Funn spent a lot of time writing her recap and surely you can be more courteous in your comments as well.

      6. Once again, coming from someone who is friends with Funn and adores her to death.

      7. And I would call this recap intensive and based on reading her old reviews, it seems like it’s hard to please Funn.

She stated that she didn’t see Fred Cheng’s performance in Voice of Stars as over-the-top amazing. She saw Voice of Stars a bit silly.

      8. @Wendy – Because Fred’s performance WASN’T over the top. He only shines so much because everyone else was nothing special. He was good, but not over the top amazing. I’m a fan of Fred, but I know that he still has a lot of room to immprove. Eric Moo was right to point out that he was singing from his chest; he should’ve sang from his diaphragm.

      9. That’s not true, at least not the way I see it.. Each of these contestants had their own specialty and their own background story, which led them selected to participate in this reality show, after all, they did go through a long process (auditions) before having their live performances as well as getting lessons/tips from professionals. And these actors/actresses are also filming dramas most of their time. You might want to admire their effort for balancing both. Fred Cheng’s performance wasn’t over the top, however the meaning behind the selection of the song was touching, which made his overall performance very strong and was able to leave a deep impression on people. They all worked hard as well to get where they are in the show. Hence, I don’t see the show as silly. I mean, if it wasn’t for the show, will we know that Fred had a nice singing voice or Becky Lee has this rich singing voice (even though she did go off tune).? Probably not. Their talents would probably be not even known to the world.

And i think if Fred could impress all 4 judges and many people online (make them teary), get himself a guest performance at someone’s upcoming concert in the same month by the SECOND episode, I do believe it’s a big deal for Fred alone after all, he did say all he wanted was for people to remember his name and for his family to know that he’s not wasting his talent..

I don’t watch The Voice or any previous reality singing shows except for X Factor. But was there any other contestants who impacted all 4 judges and got themselves a guest performance right away? And also, the judges hoped that Fred would get his own CD one day.

      10. Eh jayne why are you so serious? Lindy was simply just trying to say what she thinks, she didn’t swear, she didn’t say any rude.comments.or.anything. please be courteous of your comments.

      11. @lindy, why are you referring to yourself as 3rd party?

      12. “, if it wasn’t for the show, will we know that Fred had a nice singing voice”

I already know that long time ago, but, I’m happy that more people get to know this through the show. So, I’m happy for Fred to have this opportunity.

      13. I used Fred as an example. There are some newcomers (eg. Aaryn Cheung) who are starting out with acting but can sing.
Without this show, I would have never heard of him until TVB promoted him.

      14. If Funn is entitled to her opinion, the Lindy (with a Capital L) should also be extended the same courtesy.
Jayne, not every one agree with Funn and she is not the ultimate TVB reviewer. As admin you should act neutral and not openly favouring Funn.

      15. Since Jayne runs the website, we cannot request Jayne to treat all of us the same.
Time and time again, Jayne tends to favour Funn, even if she used an inappropriate word in her recaps and when Funn is mistreated by Lindy, Jayne steps in.

True friendship right there. What more do you want to ask, Tusk?

    2. For crying out loud, this whole piece IS Funn’s thoughts and opinions, as she pointed out. Therefore, it’s up to HER to be as judgemental and picky and critical as she likes. Surely, she’s not writing with anyone else’s (especially YOUR) thoughts…!!!

    3. @lindy, it has nothing to do with picky or judgemental,i think funn just dont like fala thats all.

      1. I think opposite. When you dislike something, you tend to say more bad things than saying things on the good side. At least, that’s what happens when I dislike something.

  2. I don’t like how they changed Kenneth Ma and Ron’s personality. In the first one, Kenneth was shy and Ron was impulsive. However, in the second one, their personalities are total opposites. I think it is to show that they matured, but I really miss their old personalities.

  3. They also forgot the fact that Roy loves to eat a lot! (: Francis looked like he and Michelle Yim should have been the couple instead lol and I totally agree that Fala was a total miscast…

  4. fala acting is horrible.i never liked her. Her face expression is always the same…boring and stiff. im really disappointed that the cast her =___=

    1. Well if ou dont like her then you dont have to watch and if you have any negative thing to say then dont say it cause it is horrible

  5. Agreed…. Fala is indeed a miscast. And I feel that she over acted in some scenes… And from what I saw in the making of TITS2

So disappointed there was no Zoe in episode1!!! I want more same and Zoe scenes before she dies!!!!,

    1. Thats pretty rude of you to say fala is a miscast, i know its your opinion but u just found that not nice.

    2. fala is ok,nothing wrong with her.her acting is good, some ppl here in this side is anti-fala,and say bad thing about her,so low.

  6. Loving the drama so far except for the theme song

  7. The most memorable moment in TITS 1 was the scene when Francis Ng was reading a poem in English. That was one of the most LMAO moment in TVB history. How the hell can a pilot speak English that bad LOL.

But now in TITS 2 Kenneth Ma’s English is even worse. I am waiting for Kenneth Ma to give us another LMAO moment hahaha.

    1. some asian airlines, their captain speak quite bad english too.

      1. True true. I remember; “We hope you have a safe FRIGHT”

  8. Many people don’t like the themesong, but TVB still decided to use a new themesong.

      1. Like I’ve said before, I don’t buy the ‘license conflict issue’ thing….if that were truly the case, then why did they use the old song in the promo clips?? (Not sure about the clips aired in HK, but some of the ones they aired here in the U.S., they used Eason’s song to accompany the clips).

      2. Different countries has different copyright rules, llwy12.

They used the old song in the promo clips because the promo clips were only shown in HK or on their own youtube channels.

    1. I guess I’m one of the few people who like the themesong. When I first heard it, it did seem a bit mismatch for her series. But, after watching it with the themevideo, I really like it.

  9. Chi lam is awesome Ron Is as stiff and wooden then ever and kennath is using his cute face as usual

    1. you must be watching a different series? ron and kenneth are funny! of course chilam is hot and amazing

    2. funn’s review is right on the spot this time! the first episode indeed fantastic except the awkward parts from fala maybe because of her lack of acting and charisma.

  10. Oh my lord lol, the theme song was terrible! I wished they used the original one

  11. They’re not with solar because of endorsement/sponsorship problem with previous company, hence jumping ship

    1. Solar was probably a fictional airline they came up with in the first series (2003). But a airline company by the name ‘Solar Air’ was founded in Thailand in 2004.

      1. Solar was the name they gave their endorsement from series 1, but endorsement changed in series 2 so they changed their fictional name also

      2. So that’s why no more Solar Airways!! But how come Skylette looks like Thai airways?

  12. “Why can’t Sam marry Zoe and have children and we see them continue their relationship like how Armed Reaction was with Joyce and Marco’s characters?”
^ uh they did get married at the end of the first installment. they just didn’t have children.

  13. I’m easy to please. The series so far has been good. It’s got some cute humors in there and everyone looked amazing after so many years.

I definitely didn’t enjoy Fala Chen. I couldn’t sense much chemistry from her … I am going to stick to Myolie to be the female lead that carries the series. Myolie looked very good in the previews. I’m glad she’s finally ditching her “cute” girl image and trying to be a more quiet, reserved girl.

    On a side note ……
Chilam is freakin hot. I wish I can stick my hand through the screen and keep him with me!

Good job TVB. Episode 1 has been very pleasant for me.

    1. Yeah I was surprised at how not pretentious it was. But I still wish Chilam’s Cool Mort was indeed Cool Mort to add a bit of spice instead of being a womaniser.

I am still confused with Fala. Way too many “roles” as in like overachiever.

      1. Yeah Cool Mort will make me sway towards him or Francis easier. Right now, I like Francis personality over Chilam but not much has happened yet.

Ron did a 180 and I guess I’m kind of glad b/c i was dreading old Ron with new Myolie. I really hope this brings Ron to a new high because he’s really not such a bad actor.

Please find a way to keep Fala off my screen!!! haha

      2. Frankly I can’t remember how Ron was like in original. I can vaguely remember someone with a temper?

    2. you’re absolutely right! love myolie’s acting from the previews! full respect for myolie for sticking to her outspoken strong cute girl image and takes this quiet, reserved and tomboy role unlike some others such as jessica who stick to the same role for all her career!

      1. *not sticking

fala has no charisma to be the main lead! wish she can get out of my screen too! in my mind myolie is the only female lead and looking forward to her stories with chilam, ron, francis ans adrian chau! feel lile skipping all of the triangle between fala chilam francis!

      2. Disagree with the comment on Jessica Hsuan.

The market that jessica operated in was different from what the market is today. The opportunities to be selective on roles was just not there for her. Artist now has the opportunity to venture off into Mainland and hand pick roles they want to portray.

As we can all see, TVB ultimately decides what roles the artist should and can take. It’s unfair to put the blame on Jessica for having roles that are the same throughout her career.

I will give her props for doing her best in every role she received.

      3. triumph2 isn’t a mainland production. maybe the producers think jessica only suitable for strong professional roles and see that she lacks versatility while producers saw myolie’s versatility and offered her this quiiet reserved tomboy role to make her change her image after tvb killed zoe to promote fala.

      4. Myolie better than Jessica? LOLOLOL, dang you are a stan.

      5. Did you not read what pandamao wrote? “TVB ultimately decides what roles…”

Many artists did not get to choose their roles back then. Also, TVB tend to typecast their artists to play it “safe.” Jessica is a clear example. She portrayed a variety of roles prior to her success. After she made it, TVB typecast her in those strong professional roles.

The market is different now. Some artists do get to choose their roles.

      6. @sel_fi_wu

I dont think it was right for you to say “fala has no chrisma to be main lead.” i think that was rude and please keep your opinions to yourself if you dont have anything nice to say.

      7. I believe Myolie plays the goody good roles all the time back when she started too..

And did she really just say myolie is better than jessica? O_O

  14. So.. Fala is the lead huh? She has charisma but her character is again too much too many.

I am not hopeful with Myolie. I am not looking forward to Zoe dying.

    1. look who’s pairing with the heavyweigt seniors. feel bad for myolie. glad you’re not putting hope funn because you’ll be surprised by myolie’s new role ans how great she makes it a contrast from zoe from her hairstyle, her tomboy expressions and outfits, her introvert and reserved personality and her chemistry with chilam, ron and adrian chau.

    2. Hard to say who the lead is … waiting for more of the story development to decide.

I firmly believe Myolie is the one female character that gets interaction with all the male leads.

      1. tvb maybe want to show fala as the lead by putting her with both heavyweights seniors and kill off audience favourite zoe to myolie’s dismay, but i have the feeling that audience will think of myolie as the female lead because of her amazing acting and fresh tomboy role and her wonderful charisma. fala is awkward in the first episode. this happen to niki tvb push niki to be female lead of change of heart buy joey’s wonderful acting drowns niki’s bad acting and joey stole the whole show from niki and gets breakthrough although joey is the villain!

    3. Myolie and Fala are the female leads while Francis, Chilam, and Ron are the male leads. I feel like Ron is overlooked as one of the male leads because the other 2 are bigger stars but Ron is basically the central character that ties everyone together.

  15. Their first episode didn’t really get me hooked tbh…Their english really bothered me. LOL.

      1. May I ask, why does she wear so much make up in ALL her series? She is a good actress, a pretty girl but wayyyyyy too much make up.

  16. after reading this make me want to leave work early and go home and watch it haha. can’t wait to see chilam

  17. So far I’ve just seen bad comments about Fala chan

  18. I think it’s too early to judge Fala based on the first episode it’s like judging Myolie when she hasn’t even appeared yet. I don’t think she was given enough screen time in the first episode for us to emphasize on how her performance was I mean she didn’t even get a chance to establish any chemistry with her co stars yet. I don’t think she was as bad as some people sad she was. She looks great though.

First episode was decent, better than I expected.

  19. Loved reading your analysis. Good job, Funn. On the other hand, since you were prepare to diss this series, I suggest you be prepared for that on incoming episodes.

Like many of you guys, you and I grew up watching the first one and was attacked to Zoe and Sam. The death of Zoe is really disheartening and really, really kills the mood for this series. But alas, we must move on and absorb in the rest of the series. Unfortunately, I can assume that 80% of the audience hates the theme song. If they can’t get anyone good to sing it, then leave it alone and make a musical score of it like some other series, instead of using a stupid substitute and shoving it down our throats.
To the other people telling us to STFU about the theme song, you were obviously not an attached and true fan of the original one. Instead, you should stfu. End my rant/

    1. Sorry for the typos, was on my phone.

      *attached.

  20. I really liked the first episode, especially how it began with Francis looking at the airplane and then Ron and Kenneth reuniting.

I didn’t care for Fala’s character but I feel she’ll probably be less annoying later on when her character matures a little bit. I have to see more before I decide if she is miscast but there is no way I would prefer Eliza in this role.

Also, for Armed Reaction, they didn’t kill off Joyce or Marco, but didn’t they kill off one of their kids?

    1. Dude, I think we can both agree that we’d take Fala over Eliza any day. Eliza is not ready for the main role, yet alone barely a supporting role.

Armed reaction – one of the kids did die, I believe in the Part 2 of the series. I also believe at the end of Part 4, Marco disappeared and the series ended with a cliff hanger of Joyce trying to find him. Part 4 didn’t do the series justice, sadly. But at this stage, we can go ahead and say Marco died, since Armed Reaction will never come back.

  21. Funn,
The cockpit is indeed this small.

Fyi, right after takeoff, only 2 will be on duty.

  22. Chilam doesn’t disappoint. He’s a magnet onscreen. I can’t stop staring at him, lol

I don’t get Fala’s character. She appears as a happy-go-lucky girl, but there are times when she’s depressed. So, what is it? I’m guessing that’s just her front and deep down Holly is fragile.

    1. Agree with you that Chilam is just so hot and a magnet on screen. Always love watching his acting. I think Fala role is supposed to be a punk and rebellious, but somehow she can’t pull it off. Not believable her role because she doesn’t comes across as such a person. I really don’t look forward to Fala’s role. And I don’t enjoy her being paired with Chilam or Francis. Guessing TVB wanted to keep her hence gave her such a heavyweight role, but at the end she still left TVB. I just hope Fala role won’t be too annoying and irritating for me to watch only.

  23. Agree with you funn! Fala is a total miscast ! TITs is supposed to be Zoe & Sam’s series!!!!how can they killed Zoe off and replaced her with fala?! Honestly I was really nervous before the first episode aired last night…because I’m afraid they gonna screw this up and spoiled the first installment as well..so no matter how good/bad this series goes, the first one will always be the best one for me 🙂

  24. Never did like Fala’acting. Think Chilam, Ron and Kenneth are great!!! Look forward for episodes to come.

  25. Chilam is such a hot looking pilot!! I think he did a pretty good job for his role so far!!

Fala is pretty too and did a fine job so far too.

  26. Good review, funn! But there’s a tiny error you made there. Fala’s mum is played by Susan Tse, not Michelle yim.

    1. Huh? Not Michelle Yim? So Michelle is her.. aunt? Michelle was chastising Fala. I did not see Susan in the series. I checked Wiki

Michelle Yim guest stars as Manna, Holly’s mom.

      Ahhh I am right.

    2. Just watched the replay on Astro on demand. You are right. It is Michelle yim! Lol. Sorry. Susan and Michelle’s hairstyles were similar, which caused my confusion. This is embarrassing :S

  27. By the way did anyone notice the caucasion actor at the beginning? The one we always see? He lost so much weight, like he is sick. Anyone know what happened to him? He really looked like he was seriously sick.

    1. Tvb ordered him to go on a diet, after he lost his endorsements, and so you see the trimmer him.

      1. He looked like he has or just recovered from cancer. That’s not trimmer. That is sickly looking.

  28. Good write up! Agree with everything and everything was so specific. DEATH TO FALA! LOL. That’s how I felt too. And “What can’t she do.” Can we add emoticon Eyerolling too?

  29. Funn is detailed. Chilam and Moses Englishi is ok.(Both educated in overseas) I have never really heard kenneth ma in english conversation(he was in Canadian university). Ng chun yu english was memorised. Fala is cute. Getting worse and I turn away to other channel is when I see linda chung, ham pao looks, poor body figure and stiff acting. Tavia yeung and momo yung’s acting are getting very boring always same facial. Him law too.

      1. Surprisingly, I think I saw him in the opening theme video.

    1. Yes I may have made a mistake. I wasn’t paying attention to where.

  30. I watched the first episode and wasn’t impressed. This is meant to be an anniversary series right? Then you’d expect the budget will be big and production quality to be first class right? Well it looked like everything was filmed in some stingy studio. That flight head office was a joke-only 1 available staff to answer the phones.

  31. Yeah i’m not feeling Fala. It’s like she trying way too hard. When she’s acting her character, all i think of is her personal life-high maintenance, high ambition, snobby, arrogant. I’ll rather have Eliza as the lead and i’m not a fan of her either.

  32. Cool more and Scarlet not otherwise I believe. Jayne comments pls.

  33. I just wanted to say… Chilam singing “Fly me to the moon” in the cockpit was really awesome!

And I really dislike this theme song.

  34. Fala is cute with sexy body, sexy voice and was brought up in States. As compared to Linda Chung is so fake and sob sob face with open pelvic/hip bone. Tavia’s nose and acting is not improving but deteriorating.

  35. Wiki spelt skylette but the movie crews had lousy pronunciation as scarlet.

  36. I don’t understand why there are so much hate towards fala. I know its your own opinions but if you going to say something bad then dont say it and you cant just critisized her by one episode and i think myolie and fala are both female lead and it is not fala’s fault that zoe is killed off.

Myolie and fala are both equally good and i think we should just appreciate and watch triumph in the skies II instead of complaining cause all the cast and producers are really putting the effort into it.

    1. I agree, Jenny. lol, it’s hilarious and quite upsetting how people criticize the actors and actresses sometimes. I would have to say majority of the people who share such harsh words are just immature, jealous and quite insecure of their own image to begin with.

      1. Yep i do agree with you. Its like you dont like when people criticize or comment on harsh things about you then dont do it to other people. That the phrase my mum always tell me.

      2. I agree with you Jenny.
        But..
just let Funn do whatever she wants or you will become one of those “others” in Funn’s comment: “I make 1 statement and gets thrown a whole lot of others and negating my right to question, to wonder”

  37. I totally agree with jenny ^
i think it is also pretty rude to criticised her acting in one episode. Just give her a chance man! Stop comparing fala and myolie – they are both amazing actress.

Sorry Funn, i know its your opinion as it is your review but i dont think it was very nice of you to say to say “DEATH!” To fala acause i think that was pretty nasty and it is not even her fault that the producers kills off zoe.

  38. I think fala done a great job, stop hating on her because she replace zoe (as she is kills off) with francis. if you think in another way we get to see a different character of zoe this time as someone cool and quiet.
We should be supporting everyone of the casts and triumph int he skies instead of complaining all the time and comparing.
Both myolie Wu and FAla chen is amazing!

  39. Thoughts on Fala – her career is like Barbie’s – she can be astro physicist, meteorologist, world traveler, AND a pilot. But in the real world I prefer to think that she was a flaky summer intern working for NASA for a couple of months then couch-surfing her way thru the rest of the USA.

On the theme song – I watched this back to back with Karma Rider and thought the sound dept might have accidentally swapped the songs then they just went with the error.

    1. Actually, I think Fala would be a punctual, sharp and strong candidate for any career fields in the real life. You sexist smurf.

      1. Why do you think the comment is sexist? I meant only in the tv world can she run around and not be contractually obligated to stay at NASA for set period given her security clearance. I think only a part-time internship candidate can run off every so often without checking in to the government.

  40. I was wondering why they didn’t use solar airlines and changed to skylette but it was probably to do with the sponser change because wasn’t Cathay pacific the original sponser or representative for the first series now it’s HK airlines

  41. Fala and Chilam got my eyes glued to the screen.

  42. I love fala and chilam. Kenneth like soh chye and hardly utter english.

  43. The best looking guy there is Tucker. He’s so charming.

    I didn’t like Francis haircut. It’s a hot mess.
