Flora Chan Gets $30 Chicken As Birthday Present From Husband

Former TVB actress, Flora Chan (陳慧珊) turned 42 years old on May 30th. After her husband filed for bankruptcy, Flora became the financial pillar in the family. Despite the family’s financial troubles, Flora appeared to be content as long as she had her loved ones close by her side. She did not mind having a simple birthday celebration at home.

Mike Chung Bargain Shops for $30 Chicken

Flora’s manager and husband, Mike Chung, had owned a marketing company. However, due to unresolved management disputes, Mike had to file for personal bankruptcy, which was approved by the High Court in March. The bankruptcy did not implicate Flora.

Yesterday, Mike was spotted driving to Tin Wan in Hong Kong Island to shop for groceries, for the upcoming birthday celebration dinner at home with Flora. Squeezing himself between female shoppers, Mike’s attention was caught by chilled chickens laying in the refrigerator section.  They were bargain priced at $30 HKD each. Picking out the chicken of his choice, he also selected some raw meat before paying for the groceries.

Flora Chan Full of Smiles

Wearing a blue jogging set, Flora picked up her 5-year-old daughter, Mira, at school. When Flora spotted the reporter, she smiled widely. Asked whether she will celebrate her birthday today, Flora said, “Yes,” adding that her husband, Mike, had also given her a gift.

Before leaving, Flora joked, “You know that today (May 30th) is not my birthday right?”

Jayne: There is a difference between a “gift” and a “present.” Mike is already a gift to Flora, whether he comes with riches or bankruptcy. Happy belated birthday to Flora!

It is really nice to have a person especially cook all your favorite foods on your birthday. Craft the dishes with you in mind throughout the cooking process. Much the same way that we bake cakes for other people. There is a charm to cooking a meal at home versus eating out on your birthday.

Hope that Mike also cooked the chicken he bought and not just do the grocery shopping.

  1. I didn t read the article ,but the title want to make me vomit all my lung. I think its awefull to talk about something so trivial…RIDICULOUS!! Hong Kong people are so materialistic. I cannot beieve it !!! Even she get that from her husband, I still think that she is a really devoted wife!! that is not like other stars who like money more than human.

    1. Ivee,
Many people in the world do not even get presents on their birthdays. We take it for granted that we have to be treated special on our birthdays, with presents and acknowledgment.

The article is not as bad as the title implies. Only that Mike went bargain hunting in the supermarket. Since he bought a $30 chicken, it was presumed to be Flora’s b-day present.

      1. I agree Jayne. Look at children in North Korea right now, they are picking food up eating on the street everyday. I bet if those children get a $30 chicken on their B-Day, it means the world to them.
I believe in the thoughts that count, not the money of the gifts. Floria and her husband married for a long time, so I don’t think she would mind.
When I was in college I dated my husband, he hand sew fix a dress for me to wear for our Cultural Nights student association performance event. I thought that was very meaning, even more than have him go out and buy me something.
Appreciate what we given, because somewhere out there in the world, there are people in worser situation than us.

      2. But what a presumption! He might have hidden a diamond ring in the chicken for all they know. It’s just really, really far-fetched, ridiculous speculative gossip over very trivial matters.

      3. If he can still afford a diamond ring after declaring bankruptcy, then he should be arrested. I feel bad for flora but not for her husband at all. He messed up his finances himself so he should have to deal w/ the consequences.

Like I always wondered about kenny bee. Now that he’s making money again, did he ever pay back his debts?

      4. I agree with Jayne and feel that many people do take it for granted that they are treated so well on their birthday. In fact, in my family, we never celelbrate birthdays or anything. We only did it for my younger brother since he is the youngest and was spoiled. I never even had a birthday cake in my whole life but I am not complaining because I know that I am still a lot luckier than most people are already. We should all be happy for what we have and know that it is the thought that counts. I often get spoiled and get great gifts from my 2 closest friends which I already feel is more than enough…

      5. HeTieShou,
I didn’t have birthday cakes on my birthday during childhood because this was not part of my parents’ culture. I didn’t have big birthday parties as well. It’s more about who you celebrate with that is more important.

Similar to holidays such as Christmas…some people feel that it’s more important to buy gifts and others do not feel this way.

With gifts or no gifts, celebrations with food are still nice. It’s an occasion to remind ourselves the people that we cherish.

      6. Jayne & HTS, it’s a bit pity to hear from you two that you seldom have many good chances to obtain “reasonably enough” of decent gifts from your closed ones.

Maybe I can come forward and offer you two a much needed help in this sense.

Let me know your birth date and where you’d like to meet me so that I can bring along a lot of guys to present you a lot of wonderful great gifts.

        Sincerely,
        Tony

      7. Tony,
I suppose you will send an animated birthday gif? 🙂 No need for cakes as I stated. I buy myself dessert whenever I wish to eat it.

And I do not accept gifts from mysterious online men.

      8. Tony,
Thanks but as Jayne said, I don’t accept gifts from guys online that I don’t know at all. Having gifts or not is not important to me.

      9. Jayne,
Well my parents are VERY boring people that don’t ever celebrate or have any parties unless it was a graduation party or something. But then again, we did not have those either… They are just anti social and think that parties are a waste of time and money. I guess they were just lazy. I agree that spending time with the ones that you care about most is the most important.

We did not celebrate Christmas at all since they say that it is a religious holiday. My mom is a devout Buddhist too. The only holiday that my family ever celebrates is lunar new year.

  2. u r right,,jaynes, not just abour rich or poor as long u r happi,,she is a great actress&a good wife standing by her husband no matter wat

  3. I think it is the heart that count doesn’t matter if the present is cheap. can’t believe is already 42yrs old. Happy Birthday Flora!

    1. hannah, if your bf gives you a real chicken as a birthday present infront of all your friends, can you take it with a smiling face?

  4. I would be offended but if it is chicken I want and chicken I get, then I shouldn’t be offended.

    1. What type of chicken you mean? The one whom ppl pay Hkd$1000 to sleep with you overnight?

  5. As long as the birthday girl is happy with her present, nothing else matters. It’s the thought that counts.

  6. how do they know that mike didn’t buy a separate present waiting at home for her?

  7. The $30 chicken gift is over sensationalized 🙂

  8. Hk papz are so…. good at spinning yarns. Psh. Anyways.. Flora has such hottible fashion sense in that pic.

  9. Mira looks cute. Too bad her eyes are pixelated, can’t see her full face.
