Joe Ma and Benny Chan Acted as Beasts, Taking Physical Advantage of Rose Chan
Last night, Rose Chan (陳嘉桓) encountered an unpleasant experience at a dinner in Hengdian, China. Rose attended a dinner event with veterans in the entertainment industry. After Joe Ma (馬德鐘)and Benny Chan (陳浩民) became imbibed with alcohol, they hugged and kissed Rose, scaring her out of her wits! Rose’s martial arts sifu, Sin Kwok Lam (冼國林), was extremely angry after learning the details of the incident, criticizing people for “They acted like beasts and took advantage of a weak woman!” Mr. Sin indicated if the incident were more severe, he will pursue legal action and alert the police!
Rose Chan just celebrated her 19th birthday and was currently filming Laughter Shaking Shaolin <笑功震武林> in Hengdian. The film also featured Timmy Hung (洪天明). Since there were numerous Hong Kongcelebrities filming at various studios in Hengdian, they decided to meet for dinner after work. Rose met Timmy Hung, Terry Fan (樊少皇), Alex Fong (方中信), Benny Chan (陳浩民), Joe Ma (馬德鐘), Michelle Yip (葉璇) and Meng Yao (孟瑤) for dinner. Since it was a crew member’s birthday, Rose attended a karaoke gathering with Timmy Hung, Benny Chan, Joe Ma, and others after the dinner. Someone offered Rose some drinks, but she refused the offer, “I’m still young, so I prefer to drink juice!”
Harassed by Joe Ma and Benny Chan
After the karaoke, the artists went to a barbeque restaurant. Meng Yao did not join the barbeque gathering. Allegedly, Timmy Hung, Benny Chan, and Joe Ma were already very drunk, to the point where Timmy fell asleep at the barbeque restaurant. After getting drunk, Benny and Joe were wanted to have some fun. Joe hugged and kissed Rose, while Benny kissed Rose’s face and lips. Scared out of her wits, Rose brought her hands up to her face and exclaimed, “I’m still very young; please don’t fool around!” A crew member witnessed the situation and separated the trio. Afterward, Joe Ma and Benny Chan apologized to Rose.
Rose’s martial arts sifu, Sin Kwok Lam was angered after finding out about the incident. He felt that certain people behaved like beasts, taking advantage of the situation over a weak woman! Mr. Sin said angrily, “Let me find out more details about the incident! If it were more severe, I will not be soft-hearted. I will press charges and alert the police! Currently, we are gathering information about the incident and seeking legal consultation over the matter.”

I had one more question – I thought she is well trained in martial arts? 2. it was public area
3. they were her seniors and peers
4. men are generally stronger than women, more so a drunk man and a surprised girl
5. she can’t do much because they’re one crew.
She certainly knew what was going on but maybe she didn’t want to aggravate things.
I think she wants to keep quiet at first to avoid awkwardness but somebody had taken the pics secretly and tipped the magazine who made it frontpage, and she’s now taking action to protect her image.

I think the pictures are pretty damaging evidence against Joe and Benny. Also, the fact that they’re both married but will still make advances on a young girl makes them both look guilty. I don’t believe she should be blamed at all. Being drunk is not an excuse for those guys. Sadly, there will still be people who will blame the girl due to misogynistic views.

Thank you for sharing the magazine scans from Sunday magazine. When I was posting this article, I had not seen Sunday’s incriminating photos yet, so I did not visualize the extent of the situation. Rose seems quite scared and uncomfortable with Benny’s advances, which can be considered sexual harassment.

From the latest pics revealed Rose look unwilling and the place look like a normal eating place and there are other people around. Benny and Joe are in digging themselves deep now.
I saw the pictures and she did looked uncomfortable and they did kissed and hugged her. They were drunk, and obviously taking advantage of her, she didn’t forcefully stopped them nor others even helped. I mean there were more than just 3 of them, what the others doing? Too drunk? I agree with your assessment. Some guys do not take “No” as an answer, testing to see if the girl is saying “No” because of trying to appear modest, while in fact really wanting to do so. Or the guys want it so bad that they push very hard, taking advantage of the situation and almost forcing themselves onto the women.
I’m very disappointed in how Benny Chan draped himself over Rose Chan despite her obvious discomfort. The magazine claimed that Benny reached down and groped her chest and below.
The blase expressions of the group tells a lot. Joe didn’t react to Benny’s forceful kiss, which makes me believe that Benny may normally do this in female company. Or male actors go film in mainland (away from their girlfriends and wives) and this is how they behave in female company. Obviously, no one raised an eyebrow over Benny’s behavior.

The pictures are truly very incriminating and damaging, and indeed both men behaved very inappropriately towards a young lady half their age, what with their bear hugs and whatnots.
That being said, they might not be molesting/harassing Rose. One must question how did these pictures get taken and released to newspapers? The men could not be so drunk as to not remember they were in a public place sitting in front of a big clear window, where their actions could be seen by all.

I bet the people who are sitting at the table don’t care…regardless of male or female. I’ve been in this kind of situation before. Well, I wasn’t the one being molested but I walked into a karaoke room where a girl I knew was being touched inappropriately. She was the odd one out so everyone just let the guy do whatever he wanted. I think this is that sort of situation. In fact, I think this happens alot so we should all be careful about what kind of company we keep…let alone these artists and their hierarchies.

I’m a bit confused by Rose’s reaction in her weibo after that incident. If I were taken advantage by two male colleagues, I would be extremely upset at them. Why am I not surprised with some of the comments on here and other weibo posts? The Asian community seems to have given the men too much benefit of the doubts when it comes to harassment. Any unwelcome or unwanted conduct is considered harassment. There are different forms of harassment–sexual nature, gender-based, racial in nature, medical condition related, or any form of offensive acts or verbal abuse. In the past (maybe he still does), Eric Tsang often made comments of sexual nature while hosting shows–some of his comments would make me cringe each time–showed that he had no or little respect for women–and it’s heart breaking that someone found those comments by Eric Tsang funny. I am surprised that no one file harassment against him. Are women in Asian countries are too complacent or are they afraid of retaliation? It’s unfortunate that there’s no law against harassment in workplace to protect people (women or men).

In the U.S., it took the case of Anita Hill vs. Clarence Thomas to bring the awareness of harassment to workplace. And now, Republican Presidential candidate, Herman Cain is now being accused of sexual harassment, but most of his supporters or non-supporters didn’t care or take the case seriously. It’s a shame.
I think this also happens in hollywood. Reality’ if a rising star or someone who wants to be a rising star makes a complaint, guess what will happen? Unfortunately, the person with the greater authority and power knows exactly what he/she wants and how to go about it. They find a suitable victim, usually a more innocent, naive person who will be confused by the advances and what to make of it. They may do it for the thrill or for the predator’s hunt. They choose an easy victim and fueled by past “success” without discovery, they often use their authoritative position to their advantage and establish their trust first. The victim is usually confused by the advances. Perhaps there may sometimes be pressure exerted that the junior will lose what is most important to them or simply, “Who will believe you if you told?” Or the victim is made to feel confused as to whether she/he had somehow done something to encourage it and thus question whether they had wanted it to happen.
Anyhow, I think those who prey on the young have practiced and honed their skills. In the past, they got away with it and thus will continue to do so.
When I was 4, I came across a man who was an exhibitionist and didn’t zip up his pants out in public. The man walked up to my sister and me and asked for street directions. He acted so normal, yet his privates were hanging out his pants. I felt strange as to what I had seen. Years later, I realize what had happened.
At 14, I was walking to school and a man in his 40s walked up to me and said, “Hi beautiful!” Then he reached down and touched my lower abdomen before winking and walking away. I was confused, insulted, and shocked. By the time I gathered my thoughts, he was many blocks gone.
At 19, I was working in a retail store. An old man walked up to me and asked where certain store items were located. He smiled and made a lot of small chit chat. Predators know how to pick their victims. They appear harmless and “nice” and catch you by surprise if it is a stranger. If a friend, coach, teacher, or someone you look up to as a mentor, the advances will confuse you and make you wonder if perhaps you had invited it somehow. And they are always men who try to take advantage of a too-crowded train to align their body too close. I have learned to swing my bag into their chest and use my elbow to block them off.
My friends recounted how they have been kissed by a manager before after a few drinks at the bar, or hugged too close. I was amongst friends when a guy tried to sit too close to me in a karaoke bar one night. Then he cornered me in a bathroom hallway, fortunately I sidestepped him and didn’t ride in his car that night.
Women often feel embarrassed and too disgusted to make a big “fuss” when harassment occurs, especially if it occurs between friends, colleagues, or even managers at work. Even strangers’ advances (disguised as nice initially) can confuse you and cause you to freeze on the spot.
I remember a similar incident happening to me when I was I think 14? 15? Can;t remember. I was playing with my friends whilst waiting for school bus at school when a malay dude in motorcycle drove by, stopped, and I was playing spin around when I stopped, looked at him and he pulled his ermm.. well you know what out and frankly I was shocked. I just stood there, no reaction, looked at him and when my friends turned he drove away. I told them what happened. Next day we were on the lookout at the same spot for the same dude with the same motorcycle, promising to beat the crap out of him but he never returned. If he did, I am sure my friends and I would have thrown our schoolbags at him and mind you our schoolbags were very very heavy.

I think that similar malay guy u saw went to Pandan Indah..while i was studying my secondary school there, a malay dude in his car flashed his lil bro to all students. he even played with it. Kinda enjoying the whole process he seemed be infront of all the students.
Or maybe it is always a malay dude. Mine was motorcycle, unless he upgraded and we are of the same era.

It’s the same behavior, same mentality all over. Exhibitionist men who like to reveal their privates to young teens, knowing that the sudden shock will allow him to get away.
You would think public places are safe, under the watch of the public. In the New York City libraries, there have been several cases of children raped in the libraries’ bathrooms. And the library patrons and staff didn’t know! It’s outrageous, but predators exist everywhere and public environments do not deter them.
Oh so surprise,never thought Joe Ma will act as a not gentleman at all,I always thought that he is one of those gentlemen(of course other than LF,which is superb gentleman) in TVB because he used to be a cop,so It seem not all cops are good.
