Joey Meng’s Unable to Become Pregnant Due to Poor Health?

Since filming for TVB, publicity scrutiny over Joey Meng’s (萬綺雯) family life has been intense. It was reported that Joey’s reasons for leaving ATV was because she wanted to spend more time with her scriptwriter husband, Chan Sap Sam (陳十三), and also welcome a new baby into their home.

The couple’s publicized plans to try for a baby were brought up by the press again when Joey announced her singing with TVB in early 2012. Joey admitted that her decision to join TVB had been a long and difficult one. She said, “When TVB approached me, we were indeed thinking about having a baby. I’m concentrating on my work now, so I’ll leave it to fate.”

But what happened during the three years between ATV and TVB? Previous rumors indicated that Joey failed to conceive because Chan Sap Sam was impotent, but this ugly rumor was immediately shot down by Joey.

Fans expected Joey to take a break after filming TVB’s Inbound Troubles <老表, 你好嘢> and A Change of Heart <好心作怪> back to back, but Joey made a surprise move to accept TVB’s invitation to film Food for the Slaves <食為奴>. Joey also has contractual obligations to shoot the upcoming Inbound Troubles movie and TV sequel. Baby plans will have to be pushed back once again, and at 42-years-old, her chances for pregnancy are becoming slimmer and slimmer.

Recently, a Hong Kong magazine published a report indicating that the primary cause behind Joey’s failure to conceive is due to her poor health. In 2004, Joey injured her lower spine while shooting an action sequence for My Date with a Vampire 3 <我和殭屍有個約會III之永恆國度>. It was an injury she never truly recovered from. In addition, her long filming hours at ATV have also deteriorated her health, and Joey was hospitalized for acute hepatitis several times.

In a previous interview, Joey admitted that she is a “sickling; I see the doctor more than I eat!” Joey further mentioned that conceiving is “not impossible… but the doctor advised that I should be extra cautious if I become pregnant.”

However, if Joey’s health is as poor as reported, she would not have agreed to film the action-packed Food for the Slaves. During an interview to promote Food for the Slaves at the 17th Hong Kong FILMART several days ago, which aired on The Green Room <今日VIP>, Joey revealed that she had to do most of her own action stunts even though a stunt double was hired for her. “The stunt double is a boy, and he is shorter than me, so I had to do a lot of the stunts on my own. My body was in so much pain when I got up the next morning!”

    1. speaking of aging – her co-star in my date with a vampire, male main lead, did not age well

  1. I thought she has children? So no children Could it be because too thin? Low sperm count? Etc?

  2. lol…how do you leave having a baby to fate? Anyway, hope she does good. She looks great for someone her age, definitely not very healthy looking, but she’s a lot better than the noobs like Eliza, Rebecca, Christine, etc.

  3. “In addition, her long filming hours at ATV have also deteriorated her health”

Filming what? What has ATV produced in recent years, except for the odd drama? And I can’t imagine the work conditions being any worst than TVB

    1. she had an injury filming those vampire series, specifically the third installment.

how about we say, TVB has extremely poor work conditions while ATV has poor work conditions. ideally, work should not be strenuous for a prolong period of time.

regardless, i sense ATV placed all their eggs in joey’s basket since she seemed to be the only hope for getting ratings.

    2. “The long filming hours at ATV” refers to the long hours in the 1990s and early 2000s, which had impacted her health in the long run, which arent restricted to “recent years”.

  4. It’s unfortunate if health reasons are truly the reason why they can’t conceive. And it doesn’t help that the HK media keeps on asking them sensitive questions like this…

  5. blessed are the women who are barren in the end of times

  6. She must go for IVF now before it is too late. At least, she must harvest he eggs first.

  7. That’s so sad. It’s dangerous to bare a child at 42. Her last route will be surrogate. Nothing wrong with that. It’s still gonna be their child.

    1. It is possible but just a lot more dangerous and harder. I am not sure if she wants to take that chance if her health is bad.

    2. Surrogacy is illegal in HK. They would have to do it in another country.

  8. TVB should hired a stunt double that is taller than Joey
