Kristal Tin on Entering Her 40s

Many women view age as their mortal enemy. Once they pass their 20s, age is no longer a question to be asked. However for Kristal Tin (田蕊妮), her age has never been a secret. If you ask her how old she is, she will proudly tell you, “This year, I am 41 years old.”

Earlier, she dieted and worked out to be in the best shape possible for the cover of her new album, Saturnian. The pictures were of her posing nude covered in blue body paint; the aim of the pictures was not to sell sexiness but rather to exude the charisma of a mature woman.  “Over the last 40 years, I have learned many things, accumulated a lot of experience, and also put on a lot of armor to protect myself. Now that I’m in my 40s, I want to take off my armor and to allow others to see the real me.”

The album’s title Saturnian originates from Greek mythology, the Roman God Saturn whose reign was thought of as the golden era. The new album has ten songs of which three are new original compositions. The songs comprise of thoughts that Kristal would like to share with her fans. “Acting is my life, but I cannot use acting to express my own personal thoughts due to the limitations of the character I am playing. After hitting 40, I had this strong feeling: there are some things in which you really have to reach a certain age in order to understand. The past 30 years have been spent learning about myself. I used to really care about how others viewed me; I lived for the purpose of others. Now, I live for myself.”

Age has also brought on a sense of motivation for Kristal. In the past year, she had many firsts in of directing, dancing, and editing. “I’ve already lived out almost half of my life and technically I don’t know how much longer I have, so if given new opportunities, I will definitely try even if it won’t be a guaranteed success.”
