“My Unfair Lady” Producer Confirms That He’s Making “Detective Investigation Files V”

Kwan Shu-ming (關樹明), producer behind the TVB dramas My Unfair Lady <不懂撒嬌的女人> and Another Era <再創世紀>, has confirmed to reporters that he is currently working on a continuation of the Detective Investigation Files <刑事偵緝檔案> series.

Rumors of a fifth installment of Detective Investigation Files, also known as DIF, started swirling earlier this week when a netizen leaked on a public discussion forum that TVB has already started pre-production work for the police procedural series. It was rumored that TVB was looking to cast Kara Wai (惠英紅), Philip Keung (姜皓文), Vincent Wong (王浩信), Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪), Mandy Wong (黃智雯), and Owen Cheung (張振朗) for the series. Another rumor claimed that TVB has already cast Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and Elaine Yiu (姚子羚) in lead roles.

Reporters reached out to Owen to ask for a confirmation, but the Legal Mavericks <踩過界> star said that “he shouldn’t be” in the series, due to the high possibility of a schedule clash.

Producer Kwan Shu-ming then confirmed the rumor that a DIF V is in the works, but it is currently in a very early stage of the process. “Thank you all for the concerns of our team,” he said. “It is true that we are working on one, but you never know what’s going to happen tomorrow. We will make a formal announcement when everything is confirmed.”

The first season of DIF debuted in March 1995 and starred Michael Tao (陶大宇), Kenix Kwok (郭可盈), Joey Leung (梁榮忠), and Louisa So (蘇玉華). It spawned two sequels. The fourth installment, released in March 1999, was a reboot that starred Louis Koo (古天樂), Sunny Chan (陳錦鴻), Jessica Hsuan (宣萱), and Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼). Louis and Jessica respectively won TV King and Queen for their performances.

  1. It won’t be the same as the original series, but I like the cast so far except Elaine.

I hope the cases won’t disappoint!

  2. it wouldn’t be the same. the original kept you guessing till the end. all crime films after that from tvb were either too easy to guess or they tried to hard.

  3. What they need is a good plot with a cast who can act. Milking a well-known series will not help, infact, will only disappoint fans, if everything else does not meet up with the expectations.

  4. if you can’t bring back any original cast why even bothered with a sequel… just make a new drama with a new name. Kenix Kwok was the best version and we got to love Louis/Jessica version as well but rebooting again jesus…. so what’s next File of Justice 6 ?!?

  5. Huh? That’s a lot of rumors. Why don’t they throw Ali Lee if there to make it actually interesting. There really aren’t any good female artists now.

  6. so sad that they are not going to use Ali in the near future, she is the rare few that is actually acting and not trying to look pretty.

I have no hopes on this show, they are just going to go on and on and on on the boring romances

So TVB have dropped Ali from Legal Mavericks 2, Who wants a Baby 2 and then Big White Duel 2 if they goes ahead. All the series which Ali have excelled in given to terrible actresses to lead instead….

  7. Sorry, but the cast sucks….doesn’t matter who they add, the fact of the matter is that the cast still sucks. Also, if they are going to do another installment, at least get the same producer and writing team back in there (though that’s impossible since both the producer and main writer already retired) – at least that way, I would give them some points on the sincerity front…as it is now, having a whole new team producing this, plus entirely different cast and story, it’s obvious they are just trying to take advantage of audience nostalgia and hang off the coattails of their past glory. Definitely insulting and annoying! But of course, this being TVB, they have to milk previous successes dry in order to survive….they don’t give a crap that it’s an insult to fans of the original series. Thank you TVB for once again ruining another great franchise!

  8. The other day, I was joking about how TVB is doing so many unnecessary, disappointing sequels to classic series that they’ll do one on Detective Investigation Files. Well, turns out it isn’t so much a joke. In light of that, I’ve compiled a list of TVB series that they will probably remake at this point with brand new, exciting titles.
