Natalie Tong Wants to Leave TVB?

Despite filming over 50 dramas in her 17-year-career, Natalie Tong (唐詩詠) only caught her first big break in 2017 when she won Best Actress for My Unfair Lady <不懂撒嬌的女人>. While the award did bring a temporary surge in popularity, including receiving over 10 advertising offers in the beginning, the buzz eventually subsided and Natalie was left with very few opportunities. Anxious about her future development, Natalie is reportedly considering leaving the station.

With TVB dramas dropping in viewership ratings, many are increasingly wary about the station’s continual decline. It is speculated that Natalie also harbors similar feelings and believes there is no future for her there anymore, and she has been poached by other stations.

Aside from currently filming Invisible Team <隱形戰隊>, all four of Natalie’s dramas in the last two years have been shelved without any notice of impending broadcast. Natalie has received few advertising jobs in the last three years as well.

Cyberbullying TVB Artistes

In addition, Natalie has been the target of cyberbullying, in which the suspects were accused of posting messages on social media with threatening and intimidating intent. Two people were detained by the police in the case.

Also a target in the past, Sharon Chan (陳敏之) expressed, “Bullying people on the Internet is such a despicable act. Everyone is working so hard towards achieving their dreams– why can’t there be more encouraging and positive words? The world needs more love and kindness.”

TVB’s “Boxing Queen” Carman Kwan (關嘉敏) filed an official report at the police station when she was tormented by cyberbullying. “The cyberbullies were targeting my family and defaming me. They even messaged the brands that I was working with, and told them to stop using me as a spokesperson. One of the brands received so much harassment that they ended up pulling my commercial. I don’t want to impact anyone else, so I had to go to the police for help,” she said helplessly.

Other artistes such as Kenneth Ma (馬國明), Roxanne Tong (湯洛雯), Crystal Fung (馮盈盈), Alice Chan (陳煒), Lai Lok Yi (黎諾懿), and even Stars Academy’s <聲夢傳奇> latest breakout stars, Gigi Yim (炎明熹), and Chantel Yiu (姚焯菲) have also been targets of cyberbullying.

  1. I think everyone wanted to leave TVB long ago, but either they didn’t have the looks, talent, or skills yet but then became too old because they were strapped to a contract or just couldn’t compete with the likes of China. Some people like comfortable like Kenneth and Moses, but these are your top earning stars at the station. Eric Li, Catherine Chau, and Kenny Wong were good but TVB never gave them the right chance to shine

    1. @jesspepperwang TVB is known to have artistes sign 10-year contracts. By the time the lengthy contracts are over, the artistes are older and may have less risk tolerance to start elsewhere, especially if their careers are only moderately successful.

    2. the problem is that tvb doesn’t have good or diverse scripts touching on different subjects for their artists to shine. it is always the same storyline recyled and their are only certain artists that fit those type of roles.

  2. Seriously doubt she’ll leave…..TBH, she’s nowhere near the others in terms of acting/popularity…..if Nancy got to return to TVB/Shaw after trying, she should not even try

  3. she was giving the award because Jessica Hsuan wasn’t signed under TVB, she doesn’t even deserve it, there’s something with her acting that it’s not likeable and she having hard time to breakthrough with the audience it’s probably due to her image. She not as fierce looking compared to top rated actress.

  4. Carman Kwan as the girl who was in King Maker 3?
Hm I think lots of artistes want to leave tvb (especially older females) but are either tied down or have no pathways to another company or another field like film. I think Natalie is really done for. She played the pretty face “girlfriend” for too long and now she’s past the prime age without any real representative work. Between Mandy and Natalie, even Mandy has more draw as a lead actress. It’s unfortunate that some people have nothing better than leave hateful comments online and they deserve to be punished.
Maybe when her dramas are aired she’ll revive some noise and popularity but we’ll see how the acting is.
Speaking of lead actresses this year there is yet to be any breakthrough performances (both male and female) at tvb, unless you count Ali… Maybe Priscilla has a shot this year to convince her haters lol.

    1. I took a shot with Pris new show….she presented “cold and ruthless” look with a blank look….if she gets best actress with this, it’s only cos TVB ran out of people to give to (what with all leaving TVB)

TVB will not give best actress to Ali, nevermind how well she has done as AI. TVB will not take this risk and not forgetting, the show is a collaboration with a 3rd party.

  5. It was passing the baton! Jessica H at the time was not awarded and of course, TVB passes the award to Natalie for her roll My Unfair Lady , of course, it was questionable back then already bc of her good image. She’s probably unable to maintain her star quality for viewership. I’m not a fan of Natalie except for the role in My Unfair Lady . Oh wells… Having said that, she carries too much “baggage” in my opinion.
