“No Reserve” Ratings Drop to an All-Time Low of 14.9 Points
The third installment to Lee Tim-sing’s (李添勝) Rosy Business franchise <巾幗梟雄系列> doesn’t seem to be as solid as its predecessors, and the poor ratings are definitely showing it.
The controversial No Reserve <巾幗梟雄之諜血長天>, which had its premiere on TVB’s streaming service myTV SUPER in October, is currently airing the abridged version on TVB’s network, Jade. The first five episodes received a low average rating of 20.6 points, and Saturday’s episode hit an all-time low for a TVB drama, reaching only 14.9 points—only 967,000 viewers watched the episode.
There are some things to consider in regards to the low turnout—all 30 original episodes of No Reserve had already aired on the streaming service myTV SUPER, so a lot of people have already seen it. The drama is also airing during the infamous holiday canon-fodder time slot, which means less people are at home watching it. Saturday’s episode—which only attained 14.9 points—was on Christmas Eve.
But amidst the low ratings and criticism on the flawed script, viewers have been quite impressed with the actors’ performances on the show, and especially in the latest episode, which got netizens feeling both mortified and impressed.
The latest episode took a strange turn last night when Cheung Kei-sang (portrayed by Myolie Wu 胡杏兒) encounters her former lover, the now psychotic Cheung Sai-kia (portrayed by Edwin Siu 蕭正楠) and saves him from danger. After eating some porridge—his lips slobbered with jook—Sai-kia suddenly goes manic and tries to rape Kei-sang.
Sai-kia stops after he catches sight of a pair of woven grasshoppers, which reminded him of his childhood and his time with Kei-sang in the village. He releases her, apologizes, and tells Kei-sang that he still loves her despite what they have gone through. Feeling heartbroken, Kei-sang kisses him, and the two end up sleeping together.
Kei-sang regrets sleeping with Sai-kia, as her heart is now with Kong Sheung-hung (portrayed by Wayne Lai 黎耀祥). She breaks down in front of Sheung-hung, telling him that she’s too dirty and unworthy for him, but true love conquers all, and Sheung-hung proposes to her in the end.
