Synopsis of TVB Family Drama “Daddy Dearest”

Succeeding the time slot of TVB’s The Last Healer in Forbidden City <末代御醫> will be Daddy Dearest <爸B有話兒>, which premieres this May. The family drama produced by Poon Ka-tak (潘嘉德) centers its story on two young dads who reenter their children’s’ lives and learn how to be better fathers.

daddy dearest posterBusiness-minded Kuk Chi-keung (Johnson Lee 李思捷) gets the challenge of a lifetime when his ex-wife remarries. He suddenly finds himself a single dad when his young son, Kuk Siu-nam (Marcus Lo 羅梓龍), moves back in to live with him. Though Chi-keung is savvy when it comes to handling money, he is at a total loss when it comes to being a father to his son. Fortunately Chu Lai-fa (Mandy Wong 黃智雯), who operates an education center, lends a helping hand to Chi-keung, and he slowly learns what it takes to be a good father.

Famous architect Sheung Nim-syu (Jason Chan 陳智燊) is a workaholic. Child-rearing responsibilities were given to his wife Ho Lok-chi (Candice Chiu 趙希洛) and his own father, Sheung San (Pat Poon 潘志文). When his wife and father enter disagreements on how to raise the kids, Nim-syu has no choice but to switch roles with his wife, and learn how to be a stay-at-home dad to take care of his older daughter Sheung Yat (Pearl Chan 陳偲穎) and younger son Sheung Yi (Chan Pak-hei 陳柏熹), who is entering primary school.

Meanwhile, the unemployed Chi-keung lands a job at Lai-fa’s education center and befriends Nim-syu, who takes his children to the same center. Together, the two struggling fathers learn how to become better parents while also supporting each other.

OMG…I dunno which one is the worst, Johnson as the lead male or Candice Chiu as the second lead female…Wah…no need to guess on my feeling, I will not watch this drama even with Mandy Wong as the lead…

@snoopy I like Johnson. He’s a good actor. He acted well in both ‘Officer Geomancer’ and ‘Smooth Talker’, especially ‘Smooth Talker’.

I bet if this series is aired, it will get good ratings. TVB audience like light-hearted family theme series.

Candice Chiu in a bigger role. Another theme by TVB that has been done to death!

What’s TVB doing bringing out this trash….This is one series that should be warehoused…..the cast is crap except for Mandy Wong… Even she can’t get me to waste my time on this…

The story line is not appealing. Its always about family, parents don’t know how to care for their kids, etc

How many dad focused series has there been in the last 15 years? Just totally lazy by TVB in coming up with themes. The only positives are trying out Candice and maybe the younger members of the cast. Who thought it was a good idea of putting Johnson and Jason as leads in the same series? Can there be a more irritating pair of actors!

I have no issues with Johnson but I’m worried about Jason. Johnson is a credible actor and he can do the job. Jason, on the other hand, hasn’t improved in any perceivable way to me

I actually don’t mind Johnson as a lead.. he’s not a bad actor. Jason.. depending on his role, could be tolerable.

Really feel like TVB is just grabbing whatever leftover cast they haven’t used yet and dumped it into this series.

Good decision here! This series with its theme and cast doesent look good enough to make it into the warehoused series. Kent Cheng hasn’t been in a bad TVB series. Will have something to watch in the next few weeks!

off topic…i hope TVB produces Forensic Heroes 4. in the last episode of Forensic Heroes 3, there was a clown murdered and it looks promising to have a follow up series. But I would like to see Bobby Au Yeung taking the lead role.

who are these people? I don’t know any of them anymore.

Johnson Lee as lead male, I saw this guy is a series just finished here call “wish and switch”. he is really bad in it, no charisma no nothing. I know tvb can rely on their good script and no need good looking actors but lately their script is bad also.

Please increase salary for your employee or you end up with these and I have to go back and watch “cold blood, warm heart” or “secret of the heart” all over again.
