Yammie Nam Refuses to Take Medications; Plagued by Ghosts?
Former TVB 1980s actress, Yammie Nam’s (藍潔瑛) mental state appears to have hit a new low. Since having a nervous breakdown in 2004 and declaring that she wished to commit suicide, Yammie has suffered bankruptcy and was hospitalized numerous times. Yammie’s friend, Mary Yeung (楊曼莉) revealed that Yammie has refused to take her medications, while believing that she was plagued by ghosts!
Two days ago, Yammie Nam was spotted on the streets of Stanley, Hong Kong. With a head full of white hair, 49-year-old Yammie also possessed a protruding belly and appeared out of shape. She wore a simple white camisole, shorts, and sandals. Yammie had visibly aged and her appearance was a stark contrast to her former vibrant, beautiful image as an actress.
When Yammie sat down at a sidewalk cafe to eat, many patrons immediately recognized her as a famous actress and whispered among themselves, “It’s Yammie Nam!” When Yammie went to the a public restroom, she was also easily recognized by others despite her aging looks.
Yammie next headed toward a pet store. Afterward, she nestled into a nearby corner to smoke a cigarette. While walking, Yammie shouted out randomly several times. After two hours passed, she got on a bus to return to her home in the Stanley district. However, Yammie boarded the wrong bus, which was headed to Causeway Bay instead. When she realized a reporter had been following her, Yammie immediately ran away.
Yammie’s Situation is Unstable
Yammie’s good friend, Mary Yeung, revealed that Yammie’s situation has been unstable recently. Yammie possesed poor appetite and ate very little food, causing her weight to drop significantly. Afraid that she will be hospitalized for a lengthy period of time, Yammie has now refused to see her doctor and stopped taking her medications.
Yammie often had nervous outbursts. Asked what Yammie would say, Mary replied, “Scold away the ghosts!” Mary’s response indicated that Yammie’s situation may have worsened from her previous state.
Since Yammie’s troubled state surfaced in 2004, her friends in the entertainment industry have tried to help her. Meg Lam (林建明), Margie Tsang (曾華倩), Eric Tsang (曾志偉), Michelle Yim (米雪), and Susan Siu (邵音音) have offered their assistance and wished that Yammie would find strength to overcome her problems. Yammie’s situation took a temporary positive turn at the time. However, as Yammie relapsed into further mental troubles, her friends watched helplessly and did not know how to help her.

Jayne: Yammie’s situation appears to worsen continuously. Refusing to take medications no doubt may strengthen her hallucinations in being troubled by ghosts.

This is so sad how she looks way older than her age and is suffering more and more… I wonder if she has hit a point of no return…
I think she has hit that point but we remain hopeful for her sake.
I hate to admit it but I still remain hopeful as well. However, her destiny and life are in her hands. IF she doesn’t want help, then it is hard to help her. I think that is why her friends feel helpless and don’t know what to do…

It’s such a shame. She was a good actress and was pretty during her youthful days. She really looks like an old lady now. Hope she can bring herself around but from what is being reported, it really sounds very bleak for her.
I just can’t help but lament the old days when she had a successful career and was so beautiful… We all wonder what seriously happened?? I guess it shows that once you take the wrong turns in life and make the wrong decisions, it can seriously lead to a dead end…

Either she has been diagnosed with serious mental issue OR she could been followed by vicious spirit. Even in this modern century, we can’t deny the existence of spirits etc..that’s why exocism practices still available in some places in Europe. Some people must get an exocism done inorder to get rid of vicious spirit which will follow you until they drain your soul and life.

I totally agree with you and someone has already mentioned before, Yammie may have been casted a spell on by one of her former friends who wanted to steal her rich boyfriend from her years ago. I do not deny the existence of spirits because my cousin knows some people who were actually possessed by spirits before. They now live at the temple with the monks and the monks try to bless them. My cousin actually showed me some of the possessed people and they have some really strange and kind of scary behavior. If that truly happened to Yammie then I can see why she is still the way she is. That is just so unfortunate and depressing.

I think you had shared stories of Yammie’s unfortunate past before. She is not a resilient individual and allowed the unfortunate turn of events to swallow her up in the worst way. She may been genetically prone to her mental instability, which makes her have a weaker spirit to deal with these issues. It is not clear. But getting off the medications will make things worse.
Health is a state of the body and mind. If the mind is not healthy and stable, the body deteroriates as well, since Yammie is likely not taking good care of herself.
I know but I just feel so sad for her so I just had to say that… I almost forget that being depressed can be inherited genetically. I can see that in my family, but the good thing is it is not that severe for us. I remember HK actress Barbara Yung had serious depression problems as well and we have seen where that led her too. Of course if you are not mentally happy, then your body deteriorates as well which is why doctors always ask anyone who is not physically healthy if they are mentally healthy as well… So sad to hear about Yammie each time…
I was thinking that if Yammie still had close family left or a good guy that really loved her, then I feel that she may have been able to get through these obstacles. Then she may have been able to continue her acting career since she does have the talent to act well as we all know. She may have had a good chance to live a more stable and happier life, unlike the one that she has now… This is just seriously very sad…

I remember Yammie in the Greed of Man. I loved that series, and she was so beautiful there. Hopefully she could overcome this obstacle; it will be a hard one, but with a willing heart it’s possible.
Her heart is too unstable to make sanity decision because her mind is messed up for stop taking medicine. Once a patient with mental prob stop taking his/her medicine..it’s hard to maintain a sanity mind.
Very sad to see her in this way..even if she’s followed by evil spirit, i bet when she’s recover & see herself in this way, she would have gone mad & eventually return to this way without eveil or not.
I hope she recover & return to acting, she’s pretty & not bad in acting..remember when i was small, i like her movies..
It is very sad to see her this way. I doubt it if she will ever recover. Many TVB artistes tried to help her in the past, but to no avail unfortunately.
She was very pretty and her acting was pretty good. It is really a shame that she ages so quickly with all greyish white hair at such a young age (49).

Your mind can get very sick just like your body if you don’t take care of it spiritually. I too feel terrible for her. I think she had completely lost her soul at this point…follow by it will be a very tough life, very much suffering. Some people with mental disorder are actually extremely dangerous because they kill at least she is not like that. Imagine her life it’s like hell on earth…may God bless her and help her heal inside.
We have a way that might help her. Any connections to her TVB friends that might want to help her? So that we could go over there. Any takers?
If we show her that she still has fans/supporters, will that help her? It doesn’t hurt to try.
How sad to hear this about her. I wonder what is the cause of her mental health breakdown? I recently watched her in an old TVB series. She is so pretty and a good actress. I do hope she will take her medication to recover. Personally do not believe in spirits and everything has a scientific expanation.

My personal opinion is that she should be institutionalized with 24 hour medical support to get her through this trying stage of her life. I am not sure what prompted her to be in this situation but professional help 24/7 for an extended period to observe, give her emotional support and treat her would be the best COA instead of seeing a psychiatrist once every so often who gives her the responsibility to take her own medication is just not the answer now.

True, but you need to have the financial resources to do so. I don’t know if you guys know that in her condition, she can no longer work and is on welfare. Therefore, even the most daily essentials are a big struggle for her so how can she afford all of this medical and psychiatrical help that she needs?? Many things are really easy to say but hard to do.

I don’t even know if she has any family left. I heard that she is an only child and both of her parents have passed away so she is all alone in the world… Friends and even relatives can only do so much… Her 2 closest people, her parents, have both left her so who can she turn to now?? This is just so tragic and sad…

Yes, she might be on welfare but the tabloids have claimed that many artists have pledge their support to help her. They can put together a fund raising benefit show to raise funds to help her and others like her.
