Hawick Lau’s “Painted Skin 2” TV Drama Attains Good Ratings on CCTV

After airing on Jiangsu TV earlier this year, the television drama Painted Skin 2 <畫皮2> began airing July 9 on CCTV, mainland China’s biggest television broadcaster. Adapted from the blockbuster film of the same name and starring Hawick Lau (劉愷威), Ying Er (穎兒), and Michelle Bai (白冰), Painted Skin 2 achieved admirable ratings on its first day, causing the producers to release an exciting preview clip in order to thank viewers and fans.

One of CCTV’s hottest television series this summer, Painted Skin 2 tells the story of military officer Wang Ying (Hawick Lau), who is involved in a love triangle with princess Li Jing (Ying Er) and fox spirit Xiaowei (Michelle Bai). Revolving around the theme of “true love has no regrets,” the drama showcases the struggles that ensue as Li Jing and Xiaowei try to win Wang Ying’s heart.

Although the drama has been aired on television before, many viewers still tuned in to Painted Skin 2’s opening episodes, which gave a simple introduction to the main characters, narrating the previous and current lives of Wang Ying and Xiaowei, as well as showing how Wang Ying and Li Jing came to know each other. In order to express their gratitude for the viewers’ support, the drama’s producers specially prepared preview clips featuring the main characters.

The preview for Hawick’s character, which was released first, portrays Wang Ying as both a hero and a gentle lover. It also gives a sneak peek at exciting scenes between the three main characters, such as when Wang Ying promises to look after Xiaowei for her entire life, when he angrily stabs Xiaowei, when he meets Li Jing for the first time, and when he decides to take Li Jing as his wife.

  1. I am sorry but Harwick looks really tight and stiff here, and lately.

    1. He had either too much of PS done or PHotoshop!!

  2. I finished this series on youtube last week. And it is not good. Everything is overcomplicated and the ending is dragged out with time-travel. Hawick looks bored in it and has no chemistry with Bai Bing.
Ying Er’s acting has improved and her princess is cute. Qiao Zhen Yu is very handsome but his character is pathetic!

    1. The whole story is really weird already, and they made it more complicated? Darn! I liek Hawick and Bai Bing, was looking forward to it, humm maybe i’ll watch the first few eps to see what it’s about myself. =)

      1. The movie was already confusing with the love triangle, now they add in reincarnations, time travel, political stuff and spiritual/human hybrids, etc…

I just found the plot too overwhelming.

      2. Another good example of how you should watch a series for more than just the cast. When the story/plot is not good, even the best cast in the world cannot save it.

      3. that is true HTS, but at times the cast does make it bearable lol. Especially if you are waiting for your fav artist to pair up hehe.
