ViuTV to Air Sheren Tang’s New Dramas

When it comes to broadcasting their own in-house dramas, ViuTV usually airs them in the 11:30 p.m. time slot. However, the company has produced two dramas featuring a very strong cast in which they hope to change their broadcasting time to prime-time at 9:30 p.m. Since this is TVB’s peak ratings hour, could ViuTV’s latest move be a tactic to challenge its highly promoted drama The Defected <鐵探>?

ViuTV’s lineup includes two dramas featuring TVB Best Actress, Sheren Tang (鄧萃雯). Firstly, Detective Prequel <詭探前傳>, featuring Sheren, Adam Cheng (鄭少秋), and Michael Tao (陶大宇), will take viewers back to the 1980s in Hong Kong when superstitions were highly believed. As for Sheren’s second drama, The Marriage <婚內情>, she will be partnering with Sunny Chan (陳錦鴻). With such an experienced cast in these dramas, ViuTV definitely wants to expand its viewership opportunities .

During an interview with Sheren, she discussed her excitement for the time change regarding her new dramas. She said, “ViuTV regards these two dramas highly because they touch on topics that are discussion worthy. But it involves some risk since many viewers don’t know that ViuTV has their own dramas, so it will take time for viewers to accept them. I wanted to film a Hong Kong production because it’s been a while since local audience has seen me on screen. I really look forward to it. Times have changed; new creativity and improvements are needed. I hope that today’s Hong Kong dramas can still capture audiences.”

ViuTV will be hosting a press conference to discuss future drama release times.

  1. yeah, finally 詭探 prequel. 詭探 was definately the best show produced in hk the year it was broadcast. strong cast and hopefully it’d be able to fill its first installment’s shoes.

  2. I can’t wait to check these series out. Not a fan of Sunny Chan, as I think he’s a better human being than a good actor.

Really looking forward to the Detective Prequel as the original series was the best drama this station has produced.

Sunny was world class in ‘at the threshold of the Era’ and great in ‘Secret of the Heart’ and decent in Detective Investigation Files. Apart from these few years, he has been uninterested in acting and seems more focused on his moral principles and also family. Not ambitious enough career wise but definitely a admirable, traditional man…

  3. I was never impressed with Sunny Chan’s acting. He is pretty good looking as an actor, but not great in his acting or voice. He is very flat in speaking his dialogues.

However, Sunny should act better if he had a good co-star (Sheren Tang) to bring out his acting skills. Wayne Lai shone too in “No Regrets” with Sheren as his partner.

I look forward to watching this drama series. There has not been a Cantonese drama series with Sheren Tang in it ever since the “Beauty at War”.

      3.Kenneth Tsang-The Final Verdict/Big Family/Blood of Good and Evil
4.Sunny Chan-At the Threshold of an Era

Sorry, I was never impressed with Sunny Chan’s acting. I don’t like the way he delivered his dialogues ………………… always flat with the same tone. He was pretty good in “At the Threshold of an Era”, but overall he was a pretty bland actor.

However, I agreed that your other actors were good, such as Deric Wan (he was pretty talented in acting even when he was fairly new), Kenneth Tsang, Nick Cheung, Gallen Lo. Bowie Lam was good to me. I also like Joel Chan.

Adam Cheng was good in some series only like “Greed of Man”, but not in all. He looked very suave in ancient series though. Have not found another actor who is as good looking and suave as he in 大俠 roles.

Michael Miu was not that great when he was young, but he is a much better actor now.

I don’t know what happened to Sunny Chan that year with ‘At the Threshold of an Era’. He suddenly became a man possessed. He was so fully in character that we forgot he was Sunny Chan and I’ve not seen even 5% of that acting from him ever since…
