[Style] Who Wore It Better? Yang Mi Edition

It’s a common occurrence for celebrities to endorse and wear the same outfits as others, but there are also celebrities where one must avoid clashing with, because comparisons are bound to arise. Yang Mi (杨幂) once famously said that she’s not afraid of clashing outfits with other actresses, as “the ugly one will be the embarrassed one.”

As one of the top trendsetters in Chinese entertainment, the public is in constant watch for Yang Mi’s every move, including the outfits she wears. Here are 12 celebrities who have clashed outfits with Yang Mi—who wore it better?

Yang Mi vs. Wu Jinyan vs. Gulinazha

Yang Mi, Wu Jinyan (吴谨言), and Gulinazha (古力娜扎) all wore the same yellow Bottega Veneta dress for different fashion shoots, giving off different styles: Wu Jinyan seemed too skinny for the outfit Yang Mi looked ladylike, while Gulinazha looked womanly.

Yang Mi vs. Jun Ji-hyun

Wearing the same patterned shirt by Chloe but with different colors, both stars gave out different vibes. Yang Mi looked youthful and rebellious, while the Korean actress looked more sophisticated.

Yang Mi vs. Angel Wang

Both actresses are known for their long skinny legs, and this scarlet red skirt by Jacquemus definitely showcased all the assets. The skirt doesn’t do much to complement Yang Mi’s figure, however, so Angel Wang (王鸥) definitely wins this round.

Yang Mi vs. Yoona

Both Yang Mi and the Girls’ Generation star are known for their lean and skinny figures, so seeing them wearing similar outfits isn’t that completely farfetched. The dress’s top cut definitely compliments Yoona’s shoulders better.

Yang Mi vs. Nana Ou-yang

Nana Ou-yang (歐陽娜娜) is another rising star to watch, and another popular overseas idol who has successfully broken into the mainland Chinese market. While both look great in the Michael Kors dress, Nana does look better in it.

Yang Mi vs. Koki

Koki (木村光希), the daughter of 90’s Japanese heartthrob Takuya Kimura (木村拓哉), clashes with Yang Mi in this pink striped outerwear. Both stars have decided to pair it up with a different undershirt, but the clash in patterns for Koki does make the outfit look slightly more confusing to stare at.

Yang Mi vs. G.E.M.

They’re not wearing the same shirt exactly, but the look is similar enough. With Yang Mi’s slimmer legs, Yang Mi definitely wins this round.

Yang Mi vs. Li Chun

Yang Mi and the Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace <如懿传> star Li Chun (李纯) are both wearing the same black feathered sweater above, and while both look absolutely gorgeous in the long sleeve, Yang Mi has the better style.

Yang Mi vs. Jing Tian

The asymmetric complements both Yang Mi and Jing Tian (景甜) equally. It takes a definite amount of boldness and star quality to pull this look off.

Yang Mi vs. Qin Lan

While Yang Mi pairs the Gucci shirt with a leather skirt, Qin Lan (秦岚) pairs it with a longer shirt. Both styles are pleasing to the eyes, but Qin Lan definitely looks cuter in this look.

Yang Mi vs. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

Didn’t expect Yang Mi to ever get compared to the Duchess of Cambridge, but this Gucci suit was what brought the two together. But when it comes to looking like a royal, it’s hard to beat Catherine.

Yang Mi vs. Deng Chao

Deng Chao’s (邓超) impeccable style was what made Yang Mi say: “I’m not afraid of clashing outfits with anyone, as the ugly one will be the embarrassed one.”

  1. I am truly scared of her skeleton legs….lol…esp the one of Yang Mi vs. Koki? Come on!! No one can beat Duchess of Cambridge but she didn’t look that bad on that pic perhaps cuz her skeleton legs were not that noticeable. haha

    1. @wm2017 I am not a fan of her skinny legs too… She shows it often in modern drama with short skirts or shorts.

omg, i thought i was the only one thinking that they are scary. not toned and just bones. how could anyone possibily think they are beautiful?

  2. “the ugly one will be the embarrassed one.” Is that really necessary?

      1. @hohliu It’s only a joke between Yang Mi and Deng Chao. You can read the article here.

And let me quote the article (credit : https://www.twoc-ents.com)

“Yang Mi was trending on weibo for her airport fashion earlier today, particularly her mini skirt that showed off her nice legs. The search term ‘Yang Mi short skirt’ was at #1 for several hours and Deng Chao had even playfully uploaded his own photo imitating the actress and sent her a doge emoji. In the comments he tells her he’s been dressing like this since 500 years ago and Yang Mi jokingly replies that wearing the same outfit is fine, but whoever is the ugly one should be embarrassed. Thus, shortly after ‘Deng Chao Yang Mi’ began trending as well lol”

Now maybe it’s time for you to realize that it’s so easy to have a misunderstanding about someone just because you believe everything you read on the internet. And just because you’re biased.

      2. @alexa777 You want to share your knowledge, great. But you want to be a Rude Prick, you do it to yourself.
You can write a background story to support her comment.

To be fair it needs to be taken in context–YM was not bragging with that statement, or putting others down. It was actually just a light-hearted joke between friends. Deng Chao first started by posting a “parody imitation” pic mimicking YM’s clothes and pose. After the joke “rivalry” gained a lot of attention on weibo, YM joked back to him the line about “the ugly one being embarrassed”. It’s a shame that a lot of her jokes meant to be humorous get quoted out of context to make her look bad.

  3. i don’t know why it’s yang mi vs other ladies. while yang mi’s are mostly studio pics and others are not. how is that even a fair comparison to begin with? plus, yang mi doesn’t wear cloths well, no curves, just bones.

    1. @m0m0 the others are also not candid pics. They were released by their respective studios (except for two and you know which ones). So what’s the difference?

    1. @mie2101 LOL, She is well known for her legs, I believe you are well accompanied by her fans.

  4. I don’t really understand the comparison. Yang Mi photo is professional photo shoot or in the stage (she is posing). Not her natural photo using the clothing. Of course her photos will looks better. No offense to Yang Mi fans.

  5. I have to say that pink dress does not suit YM at all, the colour is wrong for her, her boobs look like it drop down somewhere in the middle of her upper body (saggy boob is an understatement lol), overall, a terrible look.

YM vs Jun Ji-Hyun, well YM is doing an editorial picture, whereas JJH is actually wearing it irl, so it’s not fair to compare and YM therefore look better. But for able to make it into everyday wear, hat off to JJH

One thing about YM’s style overall though, her shoes are too busy for the outfit, I don’t like her choice of shoes for most of them.

  6. Ya know what I really don’t like? I don’t like when girls are so freaking pale, they look sick & ghastly. Fan BB is the best representation of that, but these other girls aren’t far behind.

Sometimes wish China wasn’t so exclusive to their ‘mold’ of beauty.
