Kristal Tin Announces Departure from TVB

Since joining TVB, Kristal Tin (田蕊妮) has worked her way up to become one of the company’s leading ladies. Kristal was one of the first ex-ATV actresses to make a significant mark at TVB. After winning Best Actress in 2013 for her portrayal in Brother’s Keeper (巨輪) Kristal has remained a leading lady in TVB dramas and continues to receive meaty roles. Despite her continued popularity and successes, Kristal is finally calling it quits with TVB after a 12-year work relationship.

Through her Facebook announcement of the split, Kristal shared, “Today is the day when my contract with TVB ends. I don’t plan on publicly thanking anyone at the company, because I have already thanked them privately. Instead, I want to publicly express my thanks to each and all of my viewers and audiences. Thank you for your support and encouragement towards me all these years. In the past 12 years, I have portrayed many different characters for my audience. Whatever awards or nominations are nothing compared to your love and support! What do I have planned for the future? To be honest, I don’t have one! Recently, all the things that have been happening in Hong Kong and the global pandemic made me realize that all the planning cannot keep up with these unexpected situations! The world seemed to have suddenly stopped. So why don’t I take this time to think about what I really need? What is that I really enjoy doing?”

She continued, “A lot of people spend their entire lives and all of their energy to establish their own comfort zone. But is the comfort zone really comfortable? Is the goal of living to establish a comfort zone to box yourself in? In comparison to having a comfort zone, I’m much more interested in trying out things and challenges I did not have before and grow and learn from it. The comfort zone is sometimes just a mirage. Many people are wondering how or what they are going to do after this pandemic is over. I am also looking forward to leaving my house and perform on stage for everyone soon!”

  1. Will miss her solely for the fact that almost none of the new generation of TVB siu fas can act. Nancy Wu will be missed too.

  2. Actresses her time all left tvb. There is really no familiar face. All pass second line 3 have been promoted to leads in the past five years

  3. I still vividly remember her performance in 迷. It was really intense and I don’t think any other existing TVB actresses could have pulled it off as she did. Wishing her all the best for her future endeavours.

    1. @boomer that was a good series. I think she and Kevin Cheng did a good job in that drama, and she played the crazy person well. Too bad it didn’t get enough recognition, it’s one of the dramas where I felt TVB wasn’t formulaic as much.

I agree that Destination Nowhere was Kristal’s best series. The feels and anxieties of the character was expressed to perfection. She was great I’m Brothers Keeper too and consistently good in every series. Pretty much been flawless since coming to TVB. Must have trained well at ATV where she was not so outstanding…

  4. She will be missed I really enjoy her presence on screen and her acting. It’s a shame most of the actresses in TVB don’t have the same quality of acting as she does.
I guess that means she’s now venturing back to singing. Wonder if she’ll go to a different broadcasting channel or do movies? She’s only 42, still young she can’t retire yet surely.

  5. Unfortunately, the writing has been on the wall. She is a very good actress but limited because of how mature she looks. One would think this wouldn’t be an issues, since all the male stars are also older, but unfortunately, TVB primarily does shallow ingenue roles.

I need to watch her last drama, “Girlie Days”. There has been no buzz about it. Hope it is decent, but want to support a good actress.

    1. @potatochip I was actually surprised there was no buzz at all about Girlie Days. Even though my situation is nothing like her character’s (although I’m in the same age group), I really really enjoyed the series. I would say that for me, it was easily the best written series of last year. For some reason, it really struck a chord with me and I thought most of it was intelligently and realistically done.

although the ratings were low and pretty much everyone hated it, i thought it touched on a subject that is rarely discussed or popular. the drama is about oneself together, grooming yourself to be a better person, and love relationship between an older woman and a younger man. it’s almost like you never hear stories about independent women in real life, either that or people just don’t want to admit that women could take care of themselves. this is what the drama’s theme is.

      2. @m0m0 the reasons you listed was why I enjoyed it so much though! I thought many of the situations were realistic, and dealt with conflicts that we all worry about (aging, cheating, career).

    2. @potatochip I’d recommend watching Girlie Days it’s a good drama, very wholesome got me emotional in some scenes. I mean to be fair Kristal is good in all the dramas she’s been in.

  6. I’m ok with her leaving. Don’t really like her, find her voice kinda annoying

  7. Just another wealthy and arrogant celebrity trying to cling onto fame.. no one will remember her soon enough

  8. Kristal was be missed, although I think rather than not renewing her contract, she could have kept her options open by signing a per-series contract.. Agree with comments above stating that she does well in all her series, be it thriller (destination nowhere), drama (brother’s keeper) and comedy genres (Ghost OT)

  9. So sad.. another artist leaving TVB. Why all the good & can act artists leaving TVB!!!!!! Definitely missed her.
