Wanting Qu Releases Anticipated Second Album, “Say The Words”

Mainland Chinese singer-songwriter Wanting Qu (曲婉婷) will follow up her successful first album with a second Mandarin-English studio release, Say The Words <我為你歌唱>, which hits stores on October 18.

Say the Words is a tribute to the important events that happened in Wanting’s musical journey from 2005 to 2013. Like with her debut release, all of the album’s songs are penned and composed by Wanting herself. This time, however, she also took on the role of producer for the first time, and even had the chance to work with Grammy Award winner Chris Lord-Alge, who was invited to mix the album’s songs, and Grammy Award nominee Ron Aniello, a well-known producer who has worked with artists like Bruce Springsteen and Sixpence None the Richer.

In order to celebrate the phenomenal year that Wanting has experienced since her first album, Everything in the World <我的歌聲裡>, went platinum, and to show support for her next release, Wanting’s music label, Nettwerk Music Group, held a media meet-and-greet in Beijing. Universal Music China, which co-released her first album, sent her an expensive, custom-made microphone. Dan Fraser, one of Nettwerk’s co-founders, even made a special trip from Vancouver to attend the event, and dazzled fans with a video clip of Wanting performing on CBC Television.

In order to thank her fans and the media for their support, Wanting stepped on stage to perform her new single, “When It’s Lonely” <我為你歌唱>, which is one of the three Mandarin-language songs in the album. The other two singles, “Love Ocean” <愛的海洋> and “Us Under the Sun” <陽光下的我們>, have both hit the #1 spot on various music charts – a promising start for what is sure to be an impressive sophomore release.

  1. Her album is actually pretty good but of course the first album generated so many positive reviews that it set a very high bar.
